So far the theme this week is "Dodge the Showers", in which I've been largely successful. Another humid morning presaging another humid ride home. I have a softball game tonight but suspect it will be rained out. Even if there's no rain at game time, the field is likely to be soaked.

A nice ride this morning. Just before dawn there was some rain. right after sunup it was about 70 deg F and a little muggy. Decided that it was too warm for a rainsuit and even if I got wet it was warm enough that that wouldn't be a problem. But there was no rain on the ride (about 6 miles).
I did get buzzed just a bit too closely by some Clyde in a pickup truck. I don't think he was trying to buzz me so much as he simply wasn't willing to make even the smallest accommodation for the sake of the safety of some jerk on a bike. (visibility was fine and I was wearing my vest. no excuse there.)
But stuff like this is old news,of course. But I'm lucky; it's fairly rare for me.
But I honestly hope he has a stroke. Or anything that'll get him away from the wheel. He's earned it.

Somehow I cut 5 minutes off my commute today. Perhaps because I wasn't thinking about the time. It was very humid, but still a pleasant ride.

The ride home last night was in rain - pouring, soaking thunderstorm type rain. I couldn't have been wetter if I'd been in one of those dunk tanks you see at the county fairs.

Already around 80 this AM with a dewpoint of 70. Can tell it's gonna be another fun ride home. Is it fall yet? :-)

Was off work Friday and Monday.
Nice and cool this morning till I hit the valley floor. Amazing how a small drop 0f 700 feet and a short 12 mile separation from the mountains can make such a huge difference.
I topped up the tires to my optimal 95 psi and could really feel the lower rolling resistance compared to the 60 psi that they had gradually de-pressurized to in the past few weeks. Not nearly as comfy though.
It was nice to be back on the bike after a 4-day weekend.

Very mellow. We're in a casual dress phase while our clients are on recess, so today I was wearing chinos and a short sleeve cotton shirt. Rode the race bike but didn't bother to put on bike shoes. Just pootled along, enjoying the breeze.
At one intersection I caught up to a woman on a Bianchi Milano, which is a really cool looking city bike. Hers was celeste, just like mine. I said, "Hey, I like the color of your bike!"
Nice ride to work.

Comfortable temps in the morning, around 82, but also upwards of 80% humidity. 102 this afternoon, but 29% humidity. I find I rather like riding in a dry heat. And my arms are getting brown.

I'm used to my clothes still being wet from morning rain at the end of the day, but not to them still being wet from morning sweat.
Lugging the 8 yr old on the trail-a-bike the last 4 miles definitely ups the ol' heart rate.

OK in the AM.
Horrible after work. I felt nausea/etc. The temp = 31C with humidex 36C...that is next to the water...it's probably 35C here (higher humidex too) I drank lots of water at work, AC in the office etc. I barely got home. It's gonna be horribly hot for many days.

Dark as always. I rode my Schwinn Super LeTour SS conversion. She is superfast! I took a long way to work going down Jefferson Blvd and still got to work fast. Two shaggy mutts chased after me but I left them in the dust, I was going too fast to turn back and chase them back. The ride home is gonna be a blast! I just have to remember to not do my Joeybike. That don't work here in dallas.

This morning was a good one. Sunny and low 60s F.
Motorists were polite. Stopped and picked up some groceries including goodies for the kids. That always assures me a warm welcome.

I lost my game of "Dodge the Showers." No, I didn't get wet. I let a little lightning this morning scare me off the bike. It looked like rain was approaching on the radar, so I checked outside and there was a single flash of lightning, so I didn't ride. By the time I left the house in the car, it still hadn't starting raining yet and the intense shower areas on the radar had weakened to simple rain. In short- I should have ridden. I was kicking myself mentally the whole drive into work.

Back to work today after being on vacation for 2 weeks.
I am a married man now!
I spent some time with the Mrs in VT and I got to do some riding on the long open roads along Lake Champlain, it was beautiful. It's good to be back.

HH&H plus a t-storm forecasted for this afternoon. Yay. No point in trying to not get wet so I packed shorts and rode in sandals. I was the vision of a horrific fashion disaster the likes of which tv makeover shows get made.

At about 5km into my commute I realized I had forgotten my keys. I was planning on putting on some extra k this morning so I figgured what the heck, I'll just put on a few more extra k and arrive later and let someone else unlock the doors. I ended up putting about 30km extra and arriving about 20minutes late. Someone had opened the shop and the bay door was even rolled up so I rolled right in.

I will be posting my usual recap of July's daily commute on the 31st but yesterday, (Tuesday), I took the day off work and drove the 100 plus kilometers to ZM Cycle in Toronto. The dealer, (Ziggy), had an aging Marinoni VR2 with Chorus group in my size so I brought along my gear and pedals to try it out. I rode in the quiet neighborhood of Dufferin and Eglinton area and I am truly jealous of how bicycle friendly the streets are. There was a little garbage pilled here and there because of the City workers strike but overall the bike lanes were clear and well marked. The many one-way streets allowed lots of room for traffic, parked cars and of coarse bicycle travel when there was no marked bicycle lanes. The drivers seemed very used to cyclists and gave me lots of room. My commute in the Kitchener-Waterloo area really shows how unfriendly it is in comparison to my brief Toronto exposure yesterday. I wonder if the area I was in was an exception or if the City of Toronto on whole has become this bike friendly?
BTW I was offered a deal on the bike that could not be refused. Then there were three.

doohickie.....yes, I've had that very experience. I suppose we all have.
I've learned my lesson, though. I rarely let weather scare me off. That'll cut my riding in half, or more.

Ride home was great...and hot. There was alittle more traffic than usual but it wasn't bad. I rode around the park before going home to make it an even 5 miles.
