That's where the mirror comes in. I move over when traffic comes up behind me. And I ride the route everyday. I know how that shoulder is and besides Nokian 294's will ride thru anything. Plus I had to stop and mount the camera on a road sign.

Waited to ride until about noon. Temp was in the mid 40s and roads still a bit wet from the last two days of rain. Sun came out and the ride home was in the mid 50s at 5pm. Normally would have been a great ride, but just one of those days that conspires against you with little annoyances.
First was a driver who decided to come up on me fast then just sit on my tail. There's two lanes going the same direction with no other traffic for a mile and she just waits there. I finally sat up, smiled and waved here around into the next lane. A mile later I hit a bump just right and one my bags feel off the rack, breaking a strap. The bracket on my old blinkie broke off on the same bump.
On the way home I got to enjoy the horn of a car driven by young man. Then he and his girl friend waited for me at the stop sign so that she could hang out the window and lecture me how I was blocking the road by riding in the middle of it (no shoulder but a clear lane on the left to pass ), and it wasn't safe. I thought, with you on the road no one is safe. But seeing as how both were less than half my age, I kept calm and explained the Texas Code allows me to be there - that went no where and they drove off. About a half mile later they pulled into a drive way where there is a young dog that likes to chase and nip at my wheels. Well that explains the dog's behavior, stupidity is a truly learned behavior. Sure enough I pass the house and out came the dog for the usual games.
The last 5 miles of the ride passed with lots of adrenalin and plenty of speed.

Commute the last few days has been decent - mid 20's with small wind factor. Getting real tired of this "gentle" wind they show on the weather stations. Meh. I must say though I got caught in a nice snow squall for about 10 minutes of my commute a few days ago that was so thick that I inhaled flakes. Quite interesting - had to take the glasses off as they frosted/froze " up. k, I'm done with this stuff for the year < whine >

I think it's good to always try to look cool and wear normal clothes while commuting because when we commute we are billboards advertising commuting by bicycle. On most days I manage to do this, however it rains so little here in la that I haven't worked out my gitup past the purely functional But highly dweebish stage.

It was a lovely morning when I took a ride from home to our school. Unfortunately, I remembered that I left my essay project in my room that was written yesterday before and that is due on that day. It was quite an impeccable timing since I am just a few blocks away from home. I was glad that I was able to retrieve my essay project on time and did not become late in school.

Anybody from the North East have trouble getting home last night? I see on the weather sites some areas really got hammered like some areas of Pennsylvania, Maryland and DC. Looks like Phil's six week prediction may be right. Our area was lucky this time for the storm stayed south of us. Very cold for the ride in this morning, wind gusts of 35 kph and -22 C with the wind chill.

kbpfister, that helmet/cover makes you look like Darth Vader!
No commuting for me this past week. The weather's been threatening to bucket down, but hasn't actually bucketed down. So I've missed out on riding to work because the weather couldn't make up its mind
Until today. Today, it is bucketing down. A sunday of course, so I get to miss out on my long recreational ride. GRR!!!!
I'm looking into getting some 3/4 rain pants/covers. I'm hoping this will make me feel less precious about commuting in the rain (my commute is dual mode - 16Km to train station, 1 hr waiting for train/riding on train, 12Km ride to work).

A nice commute 64f. Lots of peds and people about which always makes me happy. Rain is coming again I might make it home with out getting wet. We will see.
I got the word that I am moving to Minnesota in March so I am soaking up all the warmth I can.

It's, fortunately, been clear and cold here in Boston lately with not much snow or ice left on the roads- haven't taken the bike path in a while but I'm sure there's not much snow on it but probably lots of ice patches due to drainage issues. Have been only too happy to not take the winter bike with the studs and ride the usual commuter with the narrow profile slick tire so I'm sticking to the roads.
My commutes have been faster. The ride in today was fine but there was work being done on Commonwealth Ave by National Grid and it was down to one lane- not much of a problem for me on the bike but the traffic was seriously tied up and after it opened back up to two lanes the drivers moved into high aggression mode and a guy in mini-van jammed right up behind me and leaned on his horn just before I got to the bike lane. Odd thing was I changed nothing about my position on the road but as soon as I got to the marked bike lane he backed off as if to say, "It's okay to ride out in the road in the bike lane but if the bike lane isn't there get out of my way." Sometimes you just can't win.
Ride home tonight was great. Lots of drunks and pedestrians- it was 11:30 pm. About 17〫F with a tiny headwind but I was warm and toasty.

Speaking of drunks, I arrived at my bike box this morning to find a pool of sick on the concrete next to it. Thanks, a**hole.

Put the layer between your helmet and your head? I have used a light hooded sweat shirt or bandanna
This is me at 40f and raining. I don't care what I look like.

about 30〫F and sunny today on the ride in and the ride home tonight was likewise comfy. Last day of working at this location so had to move a bunch of stuff out, which included a large bouquet of flowers. My fellow workers were all packing up and not believing I would be able to get all that stuff on my bike for the ride home. It all fit perfectly in my milk crate- granted it stuck out about 3' above it. It was just a big pile of stuff but no problem.

My commute went like this. chilling at home ready to go to the footbal party.
ring ring (work)
You working tonight?
No
I have a shift 4 miles away, which starts in an hour.
Ok
Its 14 hours long
So I wash my uniform and pedal as fast as I can too a place I never saw before.
I found a bike rack and made it to work just right on time after finding the place in the mall. The ride was blazing fast. I had a headwind though and it was deafing my ears.
Now I am surrounded by video games (huge plasmas), internet, free juice, and TV. Which I have free reign on them
Life is good. Funny they didn't want to hire flex officers with out a car, yet I am not even on call and have responded to several shifts.

Can't say it's warm today, but at least it's dry. I took my road bike out to work and am hoping it will stay dry for the rest of the day, even though they're expecting a bit of snow. After today the nights will get colder again, and the days will become more sunny. I can use some vitamin D.
Even though it's pretty cold, I can still enjoy riding my bike to work. It makes me feel free and quite flexible as opposed to public transport.

Couldn't decide whether to take the cross bike or the road bike in 2 1/2 feet of snow, so pansied out and took the Jeep

Low teens F this morning. Very light tailwind. A very fine snow or sort of freezing mist was falling. The pavement felt slick under foot, but the studded tires didn't notice it.

First bike commute since January 29 due to snow, sleet and rain over the past week or so. There has been a lot of black ice on the roads here every morning, so I didn't feel safe commuting again until today. Rode yesterday with a friend and we still saw a fair amount of black ice even at 11 am, but lots of afternoon sunshine and warmer temps finally cleared most of it off. There was still one spot on my commute where the entire right lane was covered with ice, but I was anticipating it, and switched over to other lane.

Cold but no wind, about 20f. I'll have to keep an eye on the coming storm, forecast is about a foot tonight or tomorrow.
I'm always impressed with the snow tires. Bike path is getting pretty chewed up but the tires make that the best mile of the trip. THe asphalt, however, is literally falling apart.
No speed again, speed working fine on Sat. I guess the cut off is about 25.

Mmmmmm light tailwind......
Seems like everyone's barfing at home, though, and I felt a little queasy on the train.
Hope my stomach fights off whatever the kids brought home. I should have known when I saw the warning sign posted on the daycare and smelled the chlorine...

Ugly day, overcast with drizzle, but warmer and a lovely commute. Roads clear, nice steady roll, increased average speed a bit and can feel my body just beginning to get back into riding shape.

Rode my new (to me) touring bike for its first commute today. The tall Technomic stem and cross-top brake levers really help to see/stop in traffic!
Personal record for lowest temp, left the house this morning and it was 21F out. Toes were numb by the time I got to work, but the rest of me was ok.
