Cool (4C) and light rain. Despite what I said a few posts up, this morning I was thankful for the rain jacket; it was cool enough that I didn't sweat so much.

A driver honked at me, but I think he was cheering me on for riding.

Wednesday night did the DC Ride of Silence. Decnet turnout... 100-200+ people. Hard to estimate. Good event, though. It was even covered (in a 20 second piece, but covered nonetheless) by one of the local TV channel's 10 o'clock news.

No ride yesterday as I had to stay home to wait for some repair work to be done in my apartment. But between regular commuting, the Ride of Silence and meeting up with someone before the Ride of Silence, I got a good 40 mile day in on Wednesday.

Rode in this AM, though. Hi the local pit stop (2 miles out of the way) for BTWD. Scored some swag, but none of the big giveaway prizes. One of the local bike shops was giving away a Jamis Commuter. Lucky soul who won that one!

Pedicab driving again tomorrow night!

Indy ride to work day. No new guys where I rode in from, was suppose to be raining this Am and storms this afternoon, so no rookies, just us nuts. I think I reconized them all from the road or other rides. Anyway made for a fast ride. No rain and even some sunshine on the ride in. Looks bad right now for the ride home though.

Traded pulls with a guy on a beautiful red Steve Rex. Felt strong, and I must admit I was showing off a bit, as I dialed it up to 400 W (just kidding).

Well, there were about a million cyclists and joggers on the Custis trail today. Soooo much MUP traffic. Not only that, the Lance wannabes need to chill out on these trails and be safe. I almost saw one crash into another cyclist because he was passing going up hill on a turn. I think I'll take Wilson Blvd and the Bluemont trail home today....

But it was a great morning to ride weather wise.

45F and drizzly. Nice bike-to-school/work-day. My son rode with a friend (as well as the rest of us) and then my daughter got to hoover up ion-balanced treats at a MUP checkpoint.

It's the Official Bike to Work Day. I think it's too be expected. Sadly, most of them will probably only ride a couple more times. Hope I'm wrong about that, but I doubt it.

Good ride today, glad i was out there, this was my 3rd Bike to Work Week i have done. I am one of those that has stuck to it, on my third year now. I also celebrated by riding my new bike, Jamis Allegro 1X. I am very happy with it overall, my write up can be found here.

Wonderful!. It was hot and sunny about 85 degrees in Florida. But the best part of the commute, was not having tp ward off love bugs. For those who are unfamiliar with them, they are long black winged bugs that mate and stay joined, even in mid-air. The air was full of them for about a week..

Today I was able to ride to and from work without getting assaulted by them.

YAYYYYY!!!!!

It was furlough Friday so no commute today, but the weather was so nice I went nuts and did a 50 mile ride all the way from North Natomas to Rancho Cordova and back. I'm tired but very satisfied.

was a kind of busy day. But the commute home along the river on this beautiful WARM evening was a splendid way to finish a day (and night).

No commute today, as I don't work on Saturdays, but my hardcore roadie buddy and I are going for a ride. He is going to do about 75 miles. I'll probably end up doing 30 or so.

I'm going to meet him at the Lake Forest train station at 9:20, and we'll ride the North Shore bike path for a while. We'll then cut over towards the lake and ride through some posh neighborhoods. Here's the route:

If any Chicago area guys want to join us, meet us at the Lake Forest train station on the Milwaukee District North line at 9:20. (that's when the train is scheduled to arrive)

It was a "2 show day" today. Matinee at 2 pm so I rode in and did that show then rode home, took a nap, made a nice dinner and rode back in for the 8 o'clock show. Streets route in and home for Round 1- 16 miles. Bike path in and home for Round 2- 18.5 miles. Total miles 34.5. How nice was the day?- it can't be measured in miles!

Bikes: Trek 820 mtb, A no name red steel pipe bike, my commuter

A bit drizzly, but warm at 15 C ( 60 F). I love the humid feeling in the early morning or at night. Friday's bike-to-work day was good. I went later, with a few others and to a different building. There were cyclists in traffic everywhere. At a couple of red lights there were groups of cyclists, 2 or 3 cars back. Somehow, it seemed as it should be this way every day, albeit it would be nice to have bike lanes. Hopefully, some of the people keep it up, even if only one or two days a week. I still don't expect company at 5:10 am, but it is getting lighter.

Warm and very humid this morning, 74 and going up to 94 today, should be a a hot one going home. Normal morning temp is 40 or under with the high being around 74. Might get a thunderstorm this afternoon.

High 60's with a cool cross breeze this morning. Almost got hit by two autos, a van and a Jeep. The Jeep was speeding up to pass me (on my left) AFTER I signaled a turn (to my left). Incidents like that make me want to stay home =/

Lots more folks out riding this morning than usual. I think they missed bike-to-work week and felt bad. I hope they keep going.

Very nice this morning. Sunny, low 60sF. I've got a new chain, outer ring, and cassette so that's nice. Lots of runners on the MUP. The Vermont City Marathon is on Sunday (the 30th) so people start going through the course this week I guess. One young woman... Wow. She could have made me crash.

Not long after sun-rise, near one of the lookout points up on Mulholland I saw a deer this morning. She scampered off back down the hill amongst the trees before I could even think of taking a photo.

Seeing more and more brake-less fixed gear riders on Santa Monica Blvd on my way home - their skidding and wheelie-popping in rush hour is entertaining; although some of them clearly focused on these tricks to the detriment of their general traffic handling skills. In any case, I'm happy to have more bikes on the road with me regardless of riding style.

I've recently also had a woman in a "Pink Taco" shirt, run out into traffic to hand me a flyer as I was speeding by (for Cinco de Mayo, featuring DJs, girls in bikinis and midgets - it occurred to me that a single person could be all three things at once); and as I passed through West Hollywood I got high-fived by a man dressed as a dancing Marijuana leaf (outside of a Medical Marijuana Clinic I think).

Los Angeles can be an amusing place to commute in...

White minivan: illegal left turn. Blue pickup: cellphone violation. White SUV: red light running. Too numerous to mention: failure to signal. But it's the scofflaw hooligans on two wheels who are the real danger in traffic, right?

Made it to the office on time and in one piece. For today, that's enough.

Oh, and unseasonably cool again.
