I hate you guys with the 60F weather! It was 31F when I walked out my door this morning.
That being said, it was a good ride, complete with car exhaust and sleepy drivers. Saw one unfortunate cyclist being tended too by EMT's. Not sure if he was hit, or if he ran into something, but his front wheel was rather taco shaped. Will be watching the news for more info.

Sunny. The thermometer said 45F but it felt warmer. Kind of a slog going up the hill to work despite the light weekend (vs a bit of a heavy weekend last week and flying up the hill last Monday)

Took the chain off my bike and gave the drivetrain a pretty thorough cleaning this weekend. I'm sure it's partly psychological, but the bike just seems to go so much more smoothly when it's all cleaned up. Chain's looking a little worn, though. Borderline for replacement using the Sheldon Brown ruler method, so I guess that'll be the next preventive maintenance item to take care of.
Had to wait around for some repairmen to come around and fix some stuff in our apartment, so I didn't leave for work until around noon. Still pleasantly cool... temps around 70, I'd say. A lot more people out on the MUP around noon than I thought there would be.
Going out tonight after work, so I guess the bike will stay here at the office, and I'll metro back in to the office tomorrow AM. Boo hiss on that one. Oh well. I can look forward to a ride tomorrow afternoon at least.

Phenomenal weather today- 80〫F and clear, no wind. Fortunately, I had the day off! Did a 56 mile ride through a great area of conservation land, horse farms and American history. Then I did a ride into town for a concert and got another 20 miles in, combined with my grocery shopping I ended up with a 78 mile day. No "commuting" per se but so happy for the longer days of spring and early summer-like weather.

Just another warm day at 15 C ( 60 F). Another fellow went by me this morning, as I was avoiding two cars coming off a ramp. I rode wide in the road, so that they would see me at 5:30 am. As I rode wide, the other rider rode wider to go by me. I got to see what I look like trying to make a right turn at the light with cars instead of getting behind you in the short right turn, they try to crowd you out in the turn. Not all cars, just some. It's always nice to have company in the early morning, now if i can only get it in the winter.

I'll package up some of the hazy-hot-and-humid we've got in Vermont and ship it your way. It's too early for this stuff. Yesterday and today will be up near 90F. Average high for today is 71F. I switched to my trunk rack. Hate getting all sweaty under a backpack.
Slight headwind. Lots of cyclists out. Two came onto the MUP behind me at different points. They drifted away. I passed a high school-aged kid riding in a coat.
The funny thing was he turned and saw me and tried to sprint. That's like putting a rabbit in front of a Greyhound. Passed.
Also passed a roadie with bags and caught two more on hybrids before I left the MUP. It was my own little Tour de Vermont.

It's been warm the last few days. Warm, but not hot. A very pleasant 70-ish in the morning, mid-80s with a refreshing breeze (headwind) in the afternoon. In another few weeks that breeze will feel like a blast furnace so I have to enjoy it while I can.

Humid again, but not 92°F like it was yesterday.
Today is the first day I rode all the way to work. 30 miles. Averaged 15 mph with all those stoplights, so maybe 16-17 otherwise? The trip should have been 26 miles, but I missed a turn and wound up in Vernon Hills.
I'm not sure if I'm going to ride home tonight or take the train and right home tomorrow night.
There's another northern IL commuter here, I forget his name at the moment, but I took his hint and took Fairfield Rd. south to Gilmer. That was a great part of the ride. There were a couple dicey spots where I was on a 45 mph 5 lane road and the cagers were passing me as closely as possible. It just blows my mind. They pass me by inches, and I look and see 3 ft. between the left side of their car and the lane line. Makes me want to carry a couple of rocks in my pocket to throw at them. Then, there was a landscaping truck who wouldn't pass me. Two more behind him. Probably going to mow the rich folks' lawns in Lake Forest. By the time they finally got the nerve to pass me, everyone behind them was all mad at me.
So yes, my route needs some refinement.
But I feel great.

Awesome day for commuting in Arlington. I am still a little amazed at the risk some of the Lance wannabes take when passing joggers on hill/turns with zero visibility. What is the rush? I guess if you pay for a CF bike, you better justify it by going really fast on...multi user paths...?

Cool, no wind. Nice fast ride in this morning. Saw lots of other cyclists today, more than any other day this year, I think.

Started out this morning cold and rainy and it ended up being sunny and warm around 65F. I was called out for parking in front of the auditorium at a Two-Star General's Commander's Call. "Will the owner of the bicycle locked to the tree out front, move your bike to the side of the building." Apparently, the mere sight of a Big Dummy would have shocked the General.

First day commuting the whole way to work & back by bicycle. 56 miles total. 15 mph average. I am exhausted. There are some long rolling hills out this way that are just KILLERS. This is too much to do regularly. I may just do it one way per day, and take the train the other way.

Mine was my usual 20 mile round trip along the bike path- just beautiful. Really nice night time ride along the river home. On the way in I was traveling into town while most people were leaving but it was encouraging to see how many cyclists were obviously commuting on the bike path. Lots of Silly Commuter Racing going on- fortunately I was going the other way and for me it was a spectator sport.

I've recently also had a woman in a "Pink Taco" shirt, run out into traffic to hand me a flyer as I was speeding by (for Cinco de Mayo, featuring DJs, girls in bikinis and midgets - it occurred to me that a single person could be all three things at once); and as I passed through West Hollywood I got high-fived by a man dressed as a dancing Marijuana leaf (outside of a Medical Marijuana Clinic I think).

Just a string of good temps at 15 C (60 F). Felt a little slow this morning, but pushed up the hills, and felt better. The afternoon is always the worst, although it does feel good to sit down when I get home.

Almost the perfect commute this morning - temps in the mid-60s, low humidity, tailwind most of the way. The only way it could have been better was if I had caught green lights the whole way, but I did better than usual in that regard.
Yesterday I had an evening meeting that was going to make for a very long day, so I slept in and went for a ride around the neighborhood before driving to work. I needed to drive due to the late meeting, but at least I got a ride in.

Nice and clear, 60 ish this morning with bright sun. I left late, again, didn't hit the road til about 6, the little guy refused to get dressed and eat breakfast. The good news is that I'm at a new site and there's virtually nobody here, especially at this hour of the morning, no one knows if I get in a little late. Also, I've switched up to mtb shorts and am trying to get used to them. I've always worn road shorts but, I now: come in through the front door of the building (as opposed to the garage) and wheel my bike right up to my 5th floor office using the regular elevators. Modesty finally got the better of me and I feel more comfortable in the baggy shorts. Plus, I like the pockets, keeps me from having to reach into my backpack and fumble around for my badge. The ride home looks to be a hot one with temps in the high 80's/low 90's.

76F and so humid!
I was determined to take it easy.
I rescued a painter turtle from the MUP. She didn't much like being carried to the tall grass though.
Loads of cyclists out. I reeled in a woman (a trail regular) and just stayed behind her. At 14MPH, it was a nice effortless pedal and I had a breeze to keep me cool. Some dude on an MTB passed us, looking like he was working too hard.
Along the Champlain shore, I saw a loon floating in the water, so I stopped to watch it. Two riders went by me in the time I was there. Eventually I ran into one of them at a red light & we exchanged hellos and complaints about the humidity.

Just before a tall river bridge, I blew by a hipster in faddish bright plastic aviators. He was on a nice looking lugged steel bike, and popping out of an alleyway on a sidewalk right where I jump off and roll over the bridge.
I said "nice bike" and then zoomed over the bridge in the big ring, 20+ pounds of lunch water coffee thermos clothes and tools in my bag, on my folder with 2.1's.
I have nothing against looking stylish on a bike-- I don't get any particular joy in showing kids up, but it is nice validation to completely dust anyone who's riding faster gear.
Yesterday I was nearly assaulted in a roundabout. Guy got out and did one of those fake swings to make me flinch. I blocked his punch, but didn't flinch. The way he dealt with realizing what a coward he was was to get into his van and buzz me again in his lame conversion van at full speed.

Near miss with an aimlessly wandering ped on the MUT yesterday on the way home. He probably thought I was going too fast, and maybe I was.
This morning was awesome weather-wise. 10C, sunny, and no wind. Unfortunately, it seemed like an "us vs. them" day on the roads. I usually try to cooperate with drivers, riding FRAP, signalling my turns, holding a straight line, not filtering at traffic lights. But I think I crossed paths with a couple of people who don't like cyclists getting in their way. I started getting frustrated, and I'm afraid I didn't help some people's perception of cyclists downtown as I dodged pedestrians in crosswalks and wove around stopped cars. Sorry folks, just lost my cool a bit.

Day three on the Gators..LOVE these tires! Little cool on the ride in so I took it easy. Ride home I beat the down pour by 10 Minutes.

Hot and windy today! In the 90's on the ride in. Strong tailwind on the way home and I took full advantage of it and got home in very good time. I wondered why I felt like such a slug on the way in- I thought it was the heat but the force was not with me on the way to work.
Beat the thunderstorms and rain on the way home.
