I noticed a lot of walkers out this morning. I took the long way home,- it's good to ride by the ocean now and then.

My commute home was bad... after getting off work at 1pm I decide to go to Central Park and see how it is, since i've never ridden it before, I did 1 loop, and decide thats enough and head cross 57 street, to the Westside Bike Path, at the Circle Line I catch a flat. I can see the glass embedded in the rear tire. I'm pissed cause I only have like 587 miles on these Conti Ultra Gatorskins. Since I always carry my metro card, I walk over to 8ave and catch the A train home.

SO my question is what makes Ultra Gaorskins better tires than Nashbar Prima 2 Plus Road Tire since they both have Kevlar in them?

TOMORROW! The first day I'll ride to work since I pulled the muscle in my back. I put in 100 miles over the long weekend, including 36 today. I think I'm ready.

It was a good ride in, 58 F ( 14 C). Last evening was sheeting rain, with the promise of rain all day today, but I got in without a drop falling on me. I even packed well with plastic covering everything in
the paniers. Oh well, maybe when I leave it will rain. I played hookey on friday and enjoyed two
recreational rides on Friday and Saturday. Both days the trails were packed in various places. Hopefully,
allot of these recreational riders are commuting by bike as well. On friday I ran into a group of retired fellows, about a dozen sitting at a rest area, with the bike racks packed, talking about bikes as if there were cars. I will no doubt be joining them in a couple years.

Low 50s, no wind. Low overcast but no rain. The ceiling is lifting now. Sould be yet another nice day. Passed one regular on a bike. Saw a few going the other way. Squirrels are getting more and more brave as the season wanes.

I rode in for the first time since pulling a muscle in my back two weeks ago. Usually riding to work invigorates me, but for some reason I just kind of feel bleh. But at least I rode.

This morning I realized that I'm going to need another light or a better light in front. I'm leaving the house an hour before sunrise and it's only early September. If I had not been paying attention I probably would've been hit by this car that was in a big hurry racing off of a sidestreet ... I guessed they would not stop at the sign and may not notice me and I was right. I hit the brakes and watched them fly thru the intersection in front of me. Then I came up behind this guy wearing an orange vest but a lot of good that does in the dark. He was practially invisible. No light on the back and a tiny one in front. Anyway .. other than that, pretty nice, around 60 degrees and a slight breeze. I'll be hitting some of the other threads for advice on a new light.

A very nice ride in today, a bit warmer than it has been. I bought a NiteRider single last year. Worth every penny I paid for it. My AM commute is over by 6am, so it is usually dark when I ride in. Buy a good light. It is worth it.

53 degrees (12C), calm and clear. It felt warmer in my carport and I launched into my commute in my usual shorts and wicking tee shirt. I got a bit chilly in the first few miles (mainly downhill) - cold skin - but was fine once I hit the valley floor and started working harder.

Plugged in the ol' niterider digital 12 headlight yesterday. Battery fail. No surprise, really. It's been in storage for almost 4 years, and was showing signs of death even then. Welp, time to pony up the $150 for a replacement. *gulp*

None today. It was the first day of Kindergarten for the kids so I took the morning off to be proud dad and photographer. My wife dropped me off at work and I'll be commuting home via my adidas rather than Trek.

Warm day today.

Commute into work was nice. Warmed up this afternoon for my 8 mile ride to school. Almost got hit for the first time today. Lady was pulling out of a parking spot on the side of the street and wasn't paying attention. I quickly swerved over one lane and pulled up next to her window. Told her, "Look before you pull out next time!" She replied back, "I'm sorry! I will!"

Every day is a good day when a disaster is averted.

Still got my ride home from school, but its mostly trail. No cars, just other bicycles.

I felt tired this AM cause my dog woke me up at 4am. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-. Nice weather though. My first commute to college. After three classes, I took the bus home to eat, shower, drink lots of tea etc. After my night class I will bike home. I use the bike lockers at the college.

Actually got an apology from a driver today... the bike lane I was in came to an end approaching an intersection where the travel lane splits into three, a left turn lane, straight through lane and a right turn lane. A line of cars just passed me on the left as the bike lane came to an end and I signaled that I was moving left to access the left turn lane. As I'm moving left, the last vehicle to pass me, a large SUV cleared a side street on the right, a motorist in the oncoming lane was stopped with his blinker indicating his desire to turn left, across my lane of traffic into the sidestreet. As the SUV cleared, he began his turn moderately accelerating briefly towards my travel lane; as I was moving left at the time and in the center of the lane, this was gonna be bad... He jammed on his brakes before actually entering my lane and to swerved back to the right avoiding a collision, but as I passed, he leaned out the window, waved and actually said, and I am absolutely certain I heard this correctly... "sorry 'bout that."
Probably helped that I was lit up like a demented inflatable snow globe, with blinkies in red and white and a bright orange cycling shirt on, and was following traffic laws, but I'll just chalk this one up to finding an actual nice driver on Long Island, other than myself...

The ride home was much better than the ride to work. I had planned my route home and then promptly forgot it and got in the wrong lane which takes me up Hooters Hill, which I haven't climbed since the weather got warm. It was also the steepest hill I've climbed since pulling the muscle in my back. I took my time since I wanted to make sure I didn't re-injure myself. The advantage of going up Hooters Hill is that once at the top, the rest of the ride is quite pleasant. Very nice.

Tomorrow I have a longish commute since I have a breakfast meeting, then I ride into the office. I really want to ride my Raleigh roadster, but that might be a bit much for the miles I'll be logging. Maybe Thursday will be the day.

Been commuting by bike for a few years now (except for winter). Not an impressive distance by any means, but have recently moved to the 'other side of town'. 30-40km daily depending on the route. Feel like I'm earning my 'commuting stripes' now. I'm determined to ride into the middle of December this year. Probably shouldn't be dwelling on winter misery now. Today was ++nice. Leaving work it was 23C, light breeze and sunny, sunny, sunny

Usual commute is 3.5 miles over some rather hilly terrain, and I've been doing that route for 2 years and it's getting BORING. So today I woke up earlier and took a longer (7 miles) route over much flatter terrain, which puts me closer to the beach for some nice views. Nice ride, and plenty of time to get warmed up and in a good groove.

I like this thread and I like to talk about my commute, then later on I like to go back and read what I wrote about my commute. I think everyone else likes to do these things too because I see a lot descriptions and not a lot of replies so I'd like to say that I enjoy reading about your commutes too. It's like we're a community of commuters.
Doohickie, glad you made it up that hill and came back to write about it. Why is it Hooter's Hill? Hooter's restaurant on top?
Luddite, sounds like a nice setup going there. Some of the best commutes I remember were after a good day's work then night classes. A ride is the perfect prelude to a nightcap.
Shoup, 2 near disasters in Denver on the same day. Here's to them staying that way

BTW I pushed myself hard on my trip home today against a good north then west wind. (flags and travelling debris back me up. No I don't have the video) Got thanked for the tow by a guy who drafted me for a couple of miles. 80 (25C).

Nice commutes today...

The girls are 6/6 and are loving their 14 km round trip and between dropping them off and picking them up I went over to the co-op to work on a project bike (a Raleigh Sports) and hang out.

All in all I rode nearly 40km today and used the fixed touring bike which was, as always, as smooth as butter on glass.

An easy and strong ride in, 60 F ( 15 F). It is supposed to rain all week, but so far it has only rained on Monday night. I keep packing for rain, but it never comes.

Pleasant temps, nice ride. Saw 2 pseudo ninjas on the road - totally dark, no lighting, but wearing light colored clothing.

Dark as usual. I had oiled and checked my hybrid this weekend before riding today. The bike was so quiet that not a dog barked this morning. Made it into the office earlier than usual and got the coffee going.

Bikes: Too darn many.. latest count is 11

Metro'ed iin yesterday and looked out the window and never saw the rain they promised, so didn't make the same mistake today. Nice ride in, although out of about 8 other riders I saw, about 6 were ninjas. Guess they spent too much $ on their full kit so they look snazzy

Is it deer mating season though? Got challenged on the trail by a buck with a really nice rack. I stopped, he stopped and planted his hooves and put his head down and I thought he was going to charge me for a sec. Hit the lights on high and barked at him and he was outta there!

Terrible since I had to drive my wife’s car and leave the bike at home. She wants me to go to the grocery store after work. Oh well, I’m going to go on a nice bike ride later today (if it doesn’t rain.)

Mid 50sF, low overcast (dry), and a tailwind. Felt a bit slow, especially starting out. Need more sleep.

Smelled a skunk.
