Late. Late. Late. First, woke up late, had to shave, then, forgot my socks, then my helmet, then, had to go all the way back upstairs for my gloves. The tube that I patched for my wife last night didn't hold, discovered that while wheeling my bike through the yard, I figured I'd change it for her so she could ride-I was already late so, why not? Had a nice tail wind and hammered a little to make up some time. Got caught with a Park Police cruiser behind me on 15th St., so, I decided I'd better not run any reds. He stayed behind me for about 4 blocks-until I hit Constitution. It was actually very reasurring that he was there as opposed to a regular cager, safer and more considerate. Since I was at the head of the line, I hammered between lights to accomodate the cars, I hit 30 mph on one stretch. Pretty tired today but the afternoon ride looks nice, 70's I think.

Rode my MTB rig for the first time. Handling and brakes are different, but overall a more comfy ride if not still a heavy bike.
Took about 8 minutes more but I got stuck at a busy intersection light for two cycles since there were no cars in my direction, argh!

Commute with my son (12) (my work is close to his school) it was a little colder (especially after 90+ days) than the last few...so tomorrow sweast shirt for him. Other than that had to push to keep up with the little monster. All good.

Much cooler and breezier than the weekend. Recovery day for me so I went very leisurely in chinos and a polo.

I got up this morning and checked out the Weather Channel and saw the huge lightning storm heading toward Columbus. Later as I was getting ready and heard the thunder starting to approach. I stuck my head out the front door to see what the weather was like. As I did that. There was suddenly a huge flash of light and a few seconds later a really loud clap of thunder that scared the you-know-what out of me. The front moved quickly across the city. So when I left at 4:15am it was just a steady rain that got heaveier the first 25mins and then it let off to a light rain the rest of the way in. The temp was 60f. The temp this aftn was 62f. Windy as heck. 20mph out of the west, which is typical. Expecting temps in the upper 30's sometime this week. And maybe another Thunderstorm to deal with. You better get your gear on for this Cold season coming up.

It felt like fall today... last week we saw temps in the 90's and today our high was 55F with the wind coming out of the south at over 30 mph.
My two little girls and I cursed the wind all the way home and I am sure my 11 year old was swearing (in her own cute way) behind me... it was really too windy to hear what she was saying but it sounded like "fraaaaaackiiiiing wiiiiind !!!!"

Much nicer i.e. cooler this morning compared to the weekend, which was hot. A Saturday afternoon ride almost resulted in heatstroke
Forgot my water bottle and realised about 1/2 mile from home.

Felt a little weak on the ride in for some reason. I did have a little head wind but really not that bad. I rode 20 sat and 20 Sunday no problem so I don't know what that was about.
I was a Jackass to an asshat on the way in. Little mad at my self for it.
At an exit from and interstate this fine person decided instead of using the right turn lane they drove up the left turn lane then made a right at the concrete gore to bypass the backed up traffic. They ended up blocking the left turn lane and the bike lane because they had nowhere to go.
Every driver making a left gave this wench the horn. I was caught at the light when they did it and it was VERY intentional. I was a little hot about it as I approached when I got the green. Their back window was partly down I yelled asshat at them as I went to cut behind them and didn't realize just how close they where to the raised island gore. I had to brake hard and then cut hard left to keep from hitting the curb. I was clipped in and got off balance so I slapped my hand on their car to keep from falling. (I don't feel at all bad about that).
Then I had to cut back hard right and I was still out of shape and had to hand the car in front of them that did absolutely nothing rude to stay upright. I hit both cars with the palm of my hand on the window frames so I know there was no damage. Screamed sorry and waved but still feel bad. Their windows were up so they probably couldn't hear me apologise and probably didn't see me till I already bounced off their car like a pin ball so didn't realize why it happened.
Ride home was decent. Mostly tail wind and thankful for that as it was up over 12mph.

Went downtown after work to participate in a "thank you ride" put on by cyclists to thank the city council for painting sharrows and bike lanes around town. Bitter wind but a surprisingly large turnout. I've been a lonely commuter for 6 years or so and this was my first experience riding in a large group of bikers and it was pretty enjoyable. Also the cops were directing traffic and we got to blow through lights. Fun being the dominant group on the road for once. Ended up at City Hall where they presented a large poster signed by everyone to the council.

It was a chilly 47 F ( 8 C ). The long sleeves will be coming out soon, maybe. I am back on my old red steel pipe bike and it was a good ride, and sometimes it feels as though the bike pedals itself. Yesterday,
going home, a fellow was riding on the wrong side of the road, and I was unsure how to negotiate him. On top of that there was car on my left. I rode to the outside and let him pass on the inside. People like that should ride on sidewalks, and not on the street. They confuse cyclists and motorists alike.

Back to commuting after taking 2 weeks off. After bombing out at an attempted century, I was too depressed to even ride a bike again.
Dark as always. It felt a little cool, must be in the low 80s or upper 70s. Quiet ride in and I had time to stop at the donut shop for a cream croissant.

Glorious. Got a late start, but still made it here before the kids, and had a chance to sit down before getting changed. Aired up the tires last night (they were getting a bit low) and man, my wrists are killing me! Going from 40 lbs to 60 lbs in a 700X28 sure does make those gravel roads a bit treacherous. I'm definitely going back to 38's once the bike club season comes to an end...

Yesterday I tried to outrun an incoming storm. Didn't do too badly. Got a bit damp but not soaked. I was flyin'. Passed 5 cyclists and caught one right before he (or maybe she - hard to tell) turned off my route.
This morning was dry & overcast, but with a 20MPH headwind off the lake. Temps in the low 50s. I was plodding along at 15MPH and a guy on a road bike came onto the MUP ahead of me, which meant I had a pace bike!
I sped up and stayed behind him at around 20MPH until we got into town about 3 miles later.

thanx for sharing guys, im getting used to reading my fellow commuter storys!! keep it up guys!
So today i woke up a bit late, but had all the stuff packed, the GF made me a sandwich to go
and i went my way to the ports. in the port i saw the boat come in and the supervisor called me to give me a speech of BICYCLE NOT BEING PERMITED, with not reason, just pointing to the sing...i stayed calm and told him "i go to work on my bike, letting me use this service makes my commute a safer one, and also im the only person here to take the boat" he said "if anyone says anything you have to leav"
i spoke to the workers inside the boat, and they dont eve know why bikes are prohibited
... this is the last time i beg to them...IM THE ONLY PASSENGER! this is a govermental service not a private one....i wonder who should i contact to change this...of coarse its gonna be so hard, that commuting every day on my bike could be easier and cheaper by not using their boat service...
im pretty sad about it...when you prohibit a good thing, your promoting all the bad in the world.

Definitely getting cooler. Yeah it was cool this morning (perfect, really, in the high 50s and calm), but yesterday was a bigger indicator. They said it was in the 80s, but it just didn't feel at all hot like it usually does in the afternoon. Autumn is here.

Fail. I loaded up, dressed for the chill, hit the road, and almost halfway in, about 4 miles, my light's battery died. This time of year it's still full dark on the morning leg, so I turned around. Coming back along an exceedingly dark residential stretch, I almost collided with a jogger who was running against the traffic.
Got home, plugged in the battery and drove on in.

48f, 15-20 tailwind. Flat about 3 miles in. Same place as a few months ago, looks like the same peice of shrapnel. Also got caught by the train.
Hung up the road bike for the year, and back to the commuter, about 20 lbs heavier. But better lights, and fenders.
Left second spare tube and extra CO2s back home. Added to promised headwind, I'm not looking forward to a relaxing ride.
Few things quite as useless as the spare tube left behind!

Uneventful ride in this morning. Temp about 41F. The sunrises sure are nice. There is a construction project starting on my main road to work (diaganol highway between Longmont and Boulder). So far no impact to the commute.

Loving the weather, well, minus the wind. Just absolutely lovely temp. this AM - 58 degrees. Couldn't ask for better. Was a little cool at the beginning in my shorts and performance fabric shirt, and a little warm at the end of the ride, but for the middle 80% of it, couldn't have been more comfortable. Wind this morning was not an issue, but last night's gusty 15-25 mph winds were.
Maybe it's because I grew up in western Pennsylvania, but nothing about a temperature in the 80s says autumn to me. That reaks of summer. I don't care how it feels.
Give me 40s in the AM 50s or 60s in the day and some orange, red, yellow foliage, then you're talking...

Been a while, so to be back on the commuter felt good. My main light setup died (have to send it back to Niterider for service), so last night I finally mounted a backup set. Need to tweeak the aliognment, the lights are aimed a bit too much to the right, but they worked. Ride in was nice - mid 50's, so shorts, summer jersey and arm warmers and I was a happy dude.

Great commute this morning, and coolest weather (50 F) here since last spring. I still didn't need a vest but wore arm and leg warmers. The past two mornings I almost talked myself out of riding, but I'm glad that I rode. It's easy to start wimping out once the weather starts cooling off and the days get shorter. Yesterday I almost drove because the forecasters were calling for high winds and potential storms, but wind wasn't bad and the storms didn't arrive until evening.

Cold and clammy, 42F, wet ground. Sunny though. Expect indefinite rain to start any minute now.
