Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

The braking surface on those wheels is aluminum.

Ok, but still going to wear out I wear out aluminum rim surfaces in about a season and half. Better to get discs!

Guys,

Thanks so much for all your input.

The final answer for me is: I'll buy the bike.

Yes I totally agree that the main intention for me to buy the bike is to have fun riding it...and while I can appreciate that everyone has different opinions, for me to personally spend $5K for a bike and only riding it on the weekend sounds ridiculous.

So yes by knowing the fact now that carbon + alloy combination wheels are pretty strong I'll decide to buy it.

Cheers and thanks so much for all of your inputs,
Steve

And for others of us spending $5k on a bike as a commuter knowing how commuting beats them up is a bit over the top While I have 2 bikes in that price range that I occasionally ride in on, they're not the *only* bikes I own. I generally consider them on the days I feel like commuting in driving a Bugatti Veyron

good for you, enjoy the hell out of it.

i ride most days on my titanium road bike and it's an absolute joy. the bike is just so much damn fun to ride that saving it solely for weekend rides just seems absurd to me. now, the bike isn't great for days with questionable weather, and i have back-up bikes for those days, but if the day looks like a good one, then there simply isn't a more fun and enjoyable way for me to get to work than tearing up the lakefront bike path at break neck speed on my titanium rocket.
