forgive me BF for I have sinned, it has been 4 working days since my last bike commute. I was in Virginia on bidness though.
Wonderful commute this morning, and got the call last night that my brooks has finally arrived. After 2 months. Not really sure I even want it anymore, but I would like the seat from the commuter to move to the new touring bike, the touring bike seat needs to move to the tandem front seat, the tandem front seat moves to the back. Taking the long way home tonight to pick up the saddle and maybe stop on old town for a pint.

I've given up on worrying about the forecasts and ride in every day. I've been rained on once, for about 5 minutes, so far. What I do pay close attention to is the air quality reports. They dictate if I do a full commute or drive my car halfway, and if I bring my pollution mask.

Nothing unusual about the commute itself today, but the surprising thing was that when I got to work around 7:15, the locker room was completely deserted (I work in a huge office building). Usually there are at least one or two other people in there, sometimes three or four at once. But I showered and got dressed and nobody else came in the whole time. It even looked like most of the lockers were empty and unused. Weird.

Maybe it was a holiday. Did you see anyone when you got to your work station?

Nice ride home at dusk last night after happy hour and darts with a friend. First darkish riding in a couple months... Crazy amounts of bugs though. Had to keep my mouth closed and head down. Still felt a steady stream of them bouncing off my arms, though.
Heat and humidity coming back. 95 today, 100 tomorrow. Heat indexes back over 100 after a couple days respite from this crap. Oh well... fall can't be too far off, right?

I wussed out today. The high is supposed to hit 104 F, and we could top our all-time record high of 105 if everything goes right (or wrong). I rode yesterday when the high was 102, but it had cooled off to a mere 99 during my afternoon commute. It wasn't that bad actually due to low humidity, but today looks to be worse.

I got within 5 feet of a group of turkeys Today...I saw them crossing the road up ahead...a couple of adults and 1/2 dozen medium sized chicks. I slowed down and moved left a little as they wandered into the ditch. They didn't seem to mind me at all and continued about their business hunting and pecking. It was a great start to the day.
Sunny and cool with a slight headwind. 17.3 miles in 1 hour and 3 minutes.

50f Yet another chilly morning though I'm not complaining, all week so far the highs have been in the mid 80's and finally today supposed to be in the high 90's. Here it is nearly aug. and it's only hit 100 once, once again I'm not complaining

Yesterday I returned from a 7 day [bikeless
] vacation. I put in 15-20 nighttime miles last evening. It felt great to get on my bike again. But this morning's 8 mile commute to work was ROUGH. I'm not sure if it was the headwind, heat, or extra weight of the growlers I fill after work on Fridays at a local brewery. (Worth it.)
Looking forward to putting in some miles this weekend and getting back into the swing of things.
Cheers

First commute this week. Conditions not too bad this morning, but calling for heat index at 100+ this afternoon. Will take it slower and bring lots of gatorade. After riding a century last weekend (my first), the 20 mile commute in today didn't seem so bad.

Sunny, cool, damp streets. Had a close encounter with a car pulling out of a side street in front of me. I had enough time to anticipate and react, but it still got my blood boiling.
I guess Friday is a day to hit the snooze button an extra time. I got off to a late start this morning by about 15 minutes, but when I went from the streets to the trail section of my commute, I saw the same two joggers and the same old man out for a walk, in exactly the same places as I saw them yesterday.

Busted a spoke on the way in, got eaten alive by mosquitos while I re-trued the wheel well enough to make it the rest of the way to the office. Thankfully there is a nearby bike shop that I can divert to on my way home.

It was my 1st fixed commute since my (fixed) century last Saturday, and I realized at the 2nd descent (coffee still kicking in at the 1st) that I had left the bike on the 19t cog rather than the 17t. No harm and, surprise surprise, no change in speed/ride time.

I forgot my underwear in my pack, so now I have to wear my bike tights under my pants. It's a bit constricting...
The ride was nice and cool with favorable winds. Looking forward to the return trip this evening.

I decided to come in later to work so I rode for 2 hrs and covered 35 miles instead of my usual 3.5 or 9 miles... kinda bonked in the last 5 miles, and feeling it in my legs now.

20 mile pub detour on the way home last night. Got to stop doing that on weeknights.
Glad it was cool this morning.
