On my way back home some lady said, "sidewalks are made for walking, not bikes." I use this sidewalk because rarely do I ever see somebody on it.

I had to ride a while on that diamond grind pavement this AM. It vibrated my headlight loose, the screw nearly fell out. Not a problem really but I had to ride holding it in the right direction when I needed to see. I hope they get that road fixed soon. But, oh man, it is going to be smoooooth when it is done.

Over 90F and sunny this afternoon,
but at least the humidity was low.

Breezy, 72 degrees, music pumping, really fast, nauseating. Oh wait, I was in my car. Was going to spin exercise class with my wife tonight, but I've been coming down with this fever. Damnit!

On the way home the bank thermometer said 111°. It was rather toasty.

Hot and uphill. Other than that it was great.

In this morning was a nice and cool (for Texas) 92 F. No traffic to speak of, and a loooooong downhill stretch through a green light at the bottom, for the first time ever. I swear I almost creamed my pants when I FLEW through that intersection.

The way home was not so great. The REI zipperpull thermometer on my bag read 122 F, there was a nice wind throwing grit around, and I had some moron in a hybrid sneak up behind me, about 20" from my rear tire and honk. Nearly scared the pee out of me. My mirror should be here tomorrow, though, so that should happen less and less often. I do hate it when people crowd me, though.

Ride home last night was warm about 93 degrees when I left work. I took it easy and had a long ride home. Long because they have about half my normal route tore up and/or diamond ground so rough my head light vibrated off yesterday morning. I thought I was gonna have trouble with a Harley rider, but it ended up he pulled up beside me and, pointing at my Surly, says, "I need to be on one of those instead of this thing." Then rides off.

So with everthing tore up I rode my old old route I probably have not rode for a year (I dunno a long time). Anyway before it seems like I never rode it much under 1 hour, even when I really pushed it. Today I was loaded, 2 thermos, all my gear, etc and had a pretty good headwind. I made it to work in 56:48. I really did not realize I was going that fast till I got here, nothing I do is fast and I am not competitive, it just struck me how much stronger a rider I am now without even realizing it.

A very muggy warm morning at 76 F (24 C). The rains they are a coming. Nothing while coming in. It was dark this morning, so I can only guess the clouds contributed to that, although, it starts getting noticably darker this time of year. I forgot my cover, but I oiled everything up last night. It is supposed to be cooler tomorrow.

Sunny, no wind, and fairly comfortable around 56F/13C. It's loose pets day today. I saw two domestic cats, and a black lab, no collar.

I had an ancient Rush song in my brain for the whole ride, so it's time to play it. (Lakeside Park)

It rained for 30 minutes in Las Vegas right before quitting time yesterday. It was 98 degrees and maximum humidity on my ride home. But still downhill all the way.

65f Really nice morning, humidity is gone are was back to being crisp. I am sad that it's beginning to get dark in the mornings again.

Had a nice commute in the rain today. Decided it wasn't raining hard enough to stop me and quite enjoyed the ride. 28km of quiet roads, the motorists were fewer than usual on Ridge Road this morning and all gave me loads of room!

Good thing I wrapped my work clothes in a plastic bag inside my backpack this morning! They were nice and dry when I got there.

My wife has now stopped questioning my sanity regarding cycling, because she seems to believe there's little or none of it left to question...
...so that's a plus.

I had a mundane ride home yesterday jazzed up by getting passed by some guy. Between his bike and him he was at least 75-100 pounds lighter than me and mine. I gave chase, the guy was averaging around 20 mph. I was able to keep him in sight, occasionally was able to reel him in a little bit but I never really got closer than 20 yards of him. It was nice to have a rabbit to chase.

This morning went well, almost identical to the previous two. Monday Wednesday and today I've made my 20.5 mile route in 1 hour 17 minutes and change.

Light rain on the way in this morning. Was welcome in the summer temps. Hopefully everything will be dry by the time I head home this evening. First run on the new tires I put on last weekend. Moved from 23's to 25's in an effort to smooth out the ride a little bit. The 25's seemed to take the bumps and other road imperfections a little better.

It reached 100 degrees here before 11:00 am yesterday. It stayed over 100 degrees until after 8:00pm. In the middle of my ride home at 4:00 pm, it was 109 degrees (officially at NOAA; my bike computer was reading 118). My sandals got so hot they were burning my toes. Whenever I grabbed the bike's brake levers, they burned my fingers. I can't say that it was as much fun as my ride home usually is. So did I ride to work today? Of course. This afternoon's forecast? 110 degrees. I can hardly wait.

58F and hazy. Dare I hope for consecutive days where the mercury touches 80F?

Man, caged for 6 commute legs last week, and again this week. So nice to ride.

It was about 51 F. at my house when I left, but clear. It's starting to be pretty dark again when I leave the house at 5:05. The light didn't last long. It sure was pretty watching the sunrise when I topped the ridge though. It's been getting up into the low to mid 80s here, which suits me fine.

A bit foggy this morning but the afternoon ride was great; not too hot.

64 on my way in this morning about 7:00 am. I believe it was my first day riding in this whole year in which I did not have any warm-weather gear on at all (i.e. no arm warmers, leg warmers, balaclava, or full fingered gloves). My knee is healing from the hyper-extension injury this weekend so I could actually get some speed up too.

They just finished a new bike/ped path on a portion of my commute. And what is it about these things that makes pedestrians into idiots? Just prior to 7:00 am I ride up behind a group of four peds strung out across the entire path. I slow down to a reasonable speed and ring my bell, "Ring! Ring!" Two of the people on the left start to move over about 3 inches, just enough so I could sqeeze by. As I rode by I *nicely* said, "Be aware bikes use this path too..." The "ringleader" then yells all sorts of things at me...jeesh! I yell back at her this time, "It's a SHARED PATH!"

It'll be fun from now on. I was used to a narrow sidewalk-wide shared path that few pedestrians ever used, and those that did were extremely respectful of cyclists. I am not sure what changes this...

The headwind felt like hot air coming out of a space heater. My water was hot by the time I got to work. I started sweating by the time I got to the end of my driveway (not very far). Needless to say, it was hot; probably 115 F in the sun over the asphalt since the heat index was supposedly 100 F in the shade.

I took my sweet time, averaging 8.67 mph.

Discovered my front tire was down as I left work...tried to change it then realized my hand pump does not do presta valve. Hobbled to my bike shop, all is well again.

Missed the rains.

108 on the way home with a 25 mph head wind. It was still a good ride.
