I'm tired. This is the first week that I've ridden to work 5 days in a row; also my first week over a hundred miles. Not my last though, for either. But next week I'll take a day or two off.

We had some rain come through last night which cooled things down quite a bit. Just a little over 70f this morning and the remainder of the week is supposed to stay in the 80's for highs. Should be a nice respite from the recent heat wave.
I stayed lazy this weekend and didn't ride any so I was well rested for my ride in this morning.

It was hard to wake up in the dark this morning, but my ride got me feeling much better!!
Felt good when I reached town so I added about 4km extra to my route to work and skirted the north shore of Kempenfelt Bay which is quite beautiful in the morning (and the rest of the day too).
On another note, as of today I've passed last year's total km of 1274, and am at 1279 (~795 miles) to date on 2011.

It has been a long time since I updated here, but I've been riding pretty regularly.
Today was a pretty nice ride: Not too hot, not excessively humid. You can tell it was pretty uneventful because I spent time calculating that if I hit all my lights just as they turn red (and not counting stopping at stop signs or other intersections without lights), I lose well over 12 minutes (there are three 2-plus minute reds in the first 2.5-3 miles) sitting still. My real-world normal is about 6-8 minutes spent idling at lights each day.
*** Edit: I think I may have passed a bike/truck collision this morning; couldn't tell as the emergency vehicles were blocking any view I might have had. If so, I hope the cyclist wasn't hurt too badly. This was right where the 'custis trail' crosses the access to Key Bridge.
Also: my front tire is showing signficantly more 'tread wear' than my rear (this is to say, whatever tread the front had in the center is now worn smooth while the rear still has some 'texture') -- is this 'normal'?
Last: Electric bikes: 'motorized vehicles' or not? Chalk it up to a bruised ego, but watching a guy breeze past me, going up a slight incline, while he's not pedaling, is slightly demoralizing. It occurred to me that the sign leading to the MUP says 'no motorized vehicles' so I think he had no place there...? Alternative question: When will I be old enough to justify an electric bike so I can just cruise around and claim to be bicycling?

mid 50's out the door. No wind. I had a nice chat with a fellow commuter at a stop light, during which I had a personal moment of pride. He asked where I was headed. I told him I was going in to downtown. He outburst with, "Holy ****!". I had 10 miles to go on my 22 mile commute at that point. That made my day.
My 75 miler on Saturday helped me to achieve a personal best on my average speed to work this morning. A double bonus!

Very nice weather, nice ride in 55, no wind, had to wear arm warmers though as it was chilly on top of the hill. Some roadie maniac totally cussed me out as I was riding along a bike detour (it really is a bad detour) because he thought I was too far over the yellow mid-line. I had even waved to him letting him know I saw him and was moving over a bit to the right (someone was riding right next to me and we were facing traffic...yes, it's a condoned salmon situation...as I said, a bad detour). He went ballistic. I'm like dude, we're in a bad detour, traffic was heavy, neither of us was going fast at all, I acknowledged I saw you and moved as much as possible so CHILL OUT! Sheesh. I hope he had a decent day after that, and would hate to be a pedestrian around him.
Today I'm heading the long way home, around the beach, through a beautiful park, then home. About an extra 30 minutes or so. Must call husband and warn him I'll be later than normal...

Long & short of it: Residential street. 25MPH. Yard crew truck towing trailer approaches me from the rear as I'm slowing way down for a blind stop sign. I notice he's already started a pass even though there's a stop sign. I get to where I can see there's no opposing traffic so I accelerate. No sooner had I started pedaling again than I hear the roar of a diesel engine behind me. Not only is this guy flat out running the stop, he's trying to pass me down a hill approaching a blind curve.
Naturally the instant he pulls around me, he gets in front of me and throws up the right turn signal. Great, now he's trying to right hook me, I guess.

Hot ride in to work. Got dizzy a couple of times just after the halfway point. Slowed down.
About a mile from my job, a tree branch fell just a short distance in front of me. The branch was still bouncing and settling into place in 3/4 of my lane as I passed it with my tires kissing the dashed white line. I bet it looked pretty cool with me riding through the still-falling leaves and bark (they actually stung, slightly).
Just after that, a fella in a Gen 1 Prius merged back into the lane while still passing me; I was riding to the left of the oil drip line. I whistled, held two finger up close together, and yelled, "Hey, too close!" He was looking at me nervously in the rearview mirror at the red light another 100 meters up the road.
Scheduled an appointment with my LBS to get my rear brakes back in shape. Not too shabby for a week or two back in the saddle.

It was a very nice ride in at 72F (22 C). Lots of building at the local college and I had to watch for heavy equipment in the dark, as there was allot of it at 5:15 this morning. I usually blow by that site, before most get there, but not today. I guess someone's schedule is in trouble.

59F/15C this morning. Sunny, no wind. Very pleasant. I left a bit late. Saw more cyclists out and about. It's now at the point where we need rain. Stuff is pretty dry up here.
Wondering how all the UK commuters are holding up.

The ride home was warm, close to 90. I took the hilly route just to test my legs and did great, but neither the garmin nor the flight deck started properly. Oh well. I got cut off by 3 different right turning cars at 3 different intersections, but that still didn't ruin a great ride home.

The rain last night dropped it down to about 75, and I had a slight tailwind so that was nice.
The drunk guy stepping out into the road, then backing into my path when I tried to dodge made it slightly less so. Locked up the wheels enough to not hit him very hard. He was too drunk to care, thankfully!

Good hard ride home last night. One of my fastest. This morning, not so good. Only four minutes slower than my normal pace so nothing to be concerned about, but still I could tell that I was not all there.

Man, school traffic sucks. There were cages EVERYWHERE; big yellow cages, normal cages but multiplied like rabbits. And everybody seemed to be gunning their engines, drag racing from red light to red light. Bleh!
It put a smile on my face to see a dad escorting his daughter to school, both on bikes. I love Decatur.
I went my normal average speed but if felt like hard work towards the end.

Had to take an alternative route to work today because a lot of roads are closed near me, smashed windows, police, rioting, fires... it was all going down near me last night.
But anyway, it didn't rain and I get to go home early because they want to board up my office building.

50F and sunny. Scared a doe/fawn pair, they were edging across the trail slow then bolted when I rounded the corner, but straight into a chainlink fence so they bolted back, squirrel-style. Then I passed them, so hopefully they worked it out.
