On vacation this week but I did ride the 10 miles to my Dental check up. Great temps of high 60's when I left and mid 70's when I got home. Made really good time going with the tail wind. Unfortunatly that made for 15-18mph head winds with 25mph gusts on the way back. Still a great ride with the otherwise beautiful weather.
Storms came though late last night and woke up this morning to low 40's! Good log splitting weather though. See how much I can get split and stacked today and some work getting the garden ready to plant. Doubt I will get a ride in today.

Last week was a mess with my wife having the flu and me showing some symptoms... Today was the first ride in a week and I really enjoyed it, even with a brand new Brooks saddle! They're kind of bouncy... 30 kms on a new stretched out long route. The saddle was hard, but it's bouncy and wider than my old Specialized racing saddle. I like it already. It was chilly, 3C/38F but dry for the whole ride in.

Had a new experience on my commute this morning - I got lost! A great thing about Edmonton is its vast river valley park system with tons of trails networking throughout. Riding along the trails this morning, I branched off my usual path to take a trial that looked cleaner (less snow), assuming I would easily be able to join back with my usual path. But, the path took me into a heavily treed area, and I lost my bearings. After a few minutes, I finally found myself directly below a familiar landmark that I usually see from across the river, and then I figured out where I was. Had to backtrack a bit, then I was on my way. Too bad I had to get to work - it would have been nice to explore the paths a bit further.
A chilly feeling -5C this morning. Nice and sunny, no appreciable winds.

It was a "you're not a car" morning, apparently.
I was in the bike lane saw a guy behind me (we're coming up to an intersection), so I moved out of the way (towards a car lane) so he could turn right. As he passes me he yells something that I can't make out because he legitimately sounded like he had down syndrome. So I take the turn to find out and a couple second later he sees that I did so he pulls over and jumps out of his car.
He's big and black (maybe 200 pounds of muscle) and I'm 145 pounds
so he gets all up in my face (all while his coworker is telling him to get back in the car) and starts saying "b~tch, you gonna follow me too? get the f~ck out of me way", and I'm just standing there saying "sir, I was just trying to figure out what you said", and he responds with "I said f~ck you, you're not a f~cking car."
Thank you for that insight... I just said "alrighty then" and left even though he kept egging me on to fight.
Such is life...
I think the saddest part about all of this is that we were in Irvine (a fairly wealthy, master planned city in Orange County). He was pulling into a corporate building district, wearing a full suit, and driving his brand new BMW 750 Li. Maybe money really couldn't buy him happiness?

Cold today, overcast and gray where I am, but somehow the olympics were clear with sunshine hitting them, beautiful. Not really sure I feel the difference between winter and spring, except for those glorious 4 or 5 days just after the first official day of spring. Interesting to see the number of commuters fluctuate depending on the weather. IMO this is perfect riding weather all year, even with the rain, and those fair weather guys around here are just extra wussy.

windy. about 15-20 knots out of the northwest (roughly my 11 o'clock). but the good news is that the winds will be switching to the SW this afternoon so i'll have 15-20 knot winds at my 1 o'clock for the ride home. don't you just love those days when you get a stiff head wind both ways? zip-a-dee-doo-dah!

Wet and cool, but it was a great commute home. 39F with rain and winds from the WNW @ 12mph. The temps dropped from 52F this morning to 39 this afternoon.
I felt somewhat like a celebrity when I went past one of the schools on my route. About 3-4 different groups of kids were cheering me on as I went by them. Some were rooting and others were clapping. It gave me a pretty good chuckle.
Actually saw another cyclist this afternoon. Not sure if he was a commuter or just going for a "rain" ride, but he was on an unloaded road bike. I saw him in my mirror while starting the long climb up Rt 20. He stayed behind me all the way up the hill and pulled up along side of me at the top. We said our "hellos" and he went by. My plan was to keep him in view for the most part, but he ended up turning left about a mile after he passed.

Easy ride in somewhere around freezing. Hopefully, today gets warmer than they predicted for yesterday. No rain for a change, but always more predicted.

Nice ride in at above 40 degrees, light wind. A bit chilly on the knees and ears but I am not complaining.

No complaints here either...Rain today...but 40+ degrees and an occasional tailwind....17miles of a rural bike commute is a great way to start the day....Even in the rain.

-2C with a very light headwind, and still on the mountain bike. Since I won't be needing my goggles, I switched to my helmet with a visor. That helmet has my take a look mirror mounted to it, which is much better than the mirror on my winter helmet. It is supposed to be +4C and sunny for the ride home, so today will probably be my first ride in shorts for the year. The combination of shorts and my Lake winter cycling boots might look a bit odd though.
Yesterday I switched the rear tire on the mountain bike back to the Kenda Kwest slick and trued the wheel. Last time I tried to true the wheel the spoke nipples wouldn't turn. So I put a drop of chain oil on all of them before working on it and they grudgingly turned. I also put two pairs of Kool Stop pads on the bike, so braking is much better now. My bike repair stand should arrive today, it would have been very useful yesterday.
The LBS offered to pull a derailleur off a bike on the floor to fix my touring bike, but I didn't see any need for them to do the extra work since I can wait for the part to come in. The roads are quite dry now, so I think when I get the touring bike back the studded tires are coming off. There is a lot of sand on the roads so I'm not certain if I'll put both slicks on, or go with a knobby in the front and slick in the rear.

24 Deg F. THICK freezing fog. 5mph headwind. 13 miles. Biking shorts and a coat. Needless to say, I looked like frosty the snowman when I pulled into the office, thankfully I was the second person there.

Overnight rain and snow left wet streets for the ride in, which I kinda liked. Sky was clear-ish when I got out. Mid 30's F, kind of misty / heavy Dew.
I got an early start - on the bike by 6:20 - the sky on the East horizon was pale yellow/blue, creating a beautiful outline of the Wasatch mountains.
I like riding when the streets are relatively quiet.

-3C, sunny, calm. I got to contend with a .5 km downhill stretch of ice - not fun, even with studded tires. I only wiped once, going very slowly, landing on my tail bone. It'll be water this afternoon, but it looks like it could be a while before that stretch of trail is dry.

A little chilly this morning, but dry.
Was confident enough to ditch the rain jacket and use my normal cycling jacket. Still loving my Brooks and put 96 km on it in 2 days. Got a bit of a surprise this morning when I came around a corner and nearly flattened a pair of fat raccoons.

Yeah, that sucked for Fabo. It was a great Tour of Flanders though. Looking fwd to Paris-Roubaix this weekend. I love the spring classics.I finally get my new LHT frameset, a few needed parts, and a Brooks B17 saddle from the LBS tonight. Build will be done this weekend at the co-op. I'm very excited. The last two weeks without my bike commute have been an absolute drag. Can't wait to get back in the (new) saddle!
