Bike to work day, saw a few extras out there I guess. Strange thing was that I noticed more vehicular traffic than normal.

Lots of riders out today for BTWD when I rode in. Met up with some co-workers along the way at a few of the pit stops, and a good time was had by all. Definitely a more casual (ie: slower) ride than the normal morning ride when I am solo and trying to make good time on the way in. Like some others, I decided to eliminate the car today altogether and complete the longer commute 100 percent on two wheels. It will be about 57 miles total round trip when all is said and done tonight.

Ha! Actually my daughter won that, but I carried it for her. It's a Donkey Boxx. I've already attached it to her bike.

Fantabulous day! Best day of the year! BTW day AND it's warm and sunny. It's been two years since this happened. Lots of new riders out there...lots of drivers complaining about them on blogs (like no drivers ever do anything wrong, especially new drivers blah blah blah). I wore shorts in the morning. Shorts! In the morning! Fingerless gloves! No jacket! I will wait in the sun for a friend to meet up with me this afternoon rather than in the rain! That's how my commute is today - it's all about the sun. For a day.

Last year I was in Seattle on BTWD, and it poured as I was riding back from the Ballard BTWD fair to Capitol Hill. I had to duck under at PCC in Fremont and wait it out for almost an hour and it never fully stopped. I was there on vacation with my bike by myself and having a great time. This year, I'm home in NYC and I decide I have to ride in from Brooklyn to 42nd St for BTWD. All week long the forecast was for rain, but Friday was turning better. It poured, but at least it waited until I got to work. I stayed at work until it stopped. I took it very easy on the way home as I never ride in the wet in NYC. Funny thing is it only took about 5 minutes more than usual, proving my point that it doesn't matter how fast you go in Manhattan traffic.

Probably my most enjoyable commute so far this year! Nice and cool this morning, I felt good taking it easy and it didn't hurt that some passerby's in a car literally cheered me on. Warm coming home, in the mid 80's the way I like it, and I broke my 30-minute mark without trying to hammer it. This is going to be a great summer.

Happy BTWD everyone. No events in my city, although as part of my job, I will be hoping to plan something for next year. Nice commute home this afternoon, traffic wasn't too bad. It was about 80* and a bit on the humid side. I am pretty happy, I commuted 4 days this week. It is looking like thunderstorms next week, so I will have to see how the weather shakes out. I forgot my keys at work this afternoon, so I have to use my spare all weekend.

Great day for ride to work day. There was 25+ of us this year, I probably knew at least 10 from the last 4-5 years. I have been on vacation this week and it has rained about evey day. Not today. I have been getting a sore throat and when I woke up this AM I felt horrible. I went back to bed, feeling bad because I was not going to make it this year. Laid down for about 15 minutes. Got up and went. Within 15 minutes of the ride I felt pretty good. Got about 30 miles in cause I am still on vacation so I hung out at the circle for a while and had a great ride home with a couple of detours. Wonderful day.

Winter tried sliding in here Monday-Wednesday with mid 40's. Between that and my cut on my ankle last week that got me three staples swelling up during the long days we have been working I drove those days. Wednesday it seemed to be doing better so I rode Thursday and Friday. High 40's Thursday low 50's Friday for the ride in but I'll take it.
Did have a neighbor try to right hook me on my street while driving his phonebooth.

Had a wonderful ride home yesterday. I'm new at this after a 10 year lay off. I'm so glad I listened to all the tips here because the ride home was the easiest of the 3 I have done this week. It even rained and here I was singing(which was suggested!!!) I made one stop but walked instead and that was the best thing I did. It got me wanting to go the rest of the way,

Yesterday AM, I wore raingear out, and had to strip it all off in about two miles. Partly sunny and in the low sixties, I was out in cycling shorts and short sleeve jersey for the first time this year.
Yesterday PM, on the way home, cloudy, ominous, but still low sixties... about half an hour into the ride home, temp dropped 12 degrees F, and it started in with a heavy soaking mist. Ug. Two weeks of wet and cold, more predicted. We're going to head straight from the tail end of winter directly into summer...

Had a good weekend... but doing my normal Sunday night check on the bikes, I found my LHT has a blown rear tube. I check the rim, check the tire, pull a spare tube from my daughter's bike... which also has a blown tube... and that third tube blows too. I finally pulled a 2" tube from my spare MTB tires, and stuffed it into the 1.5" Kwest and I'm hoping it holds. Looks like it's time for me to stock up on tubes again.

What else, but rain. A warm ride in at 66 F (19 C). I have packed for rain so many days in a row, I can't remember what it is like not to
pack for rain. A bigger concern are my tomatoes, and I have already given up on my poppys, I have yet to see even one.

First ride in the rain today, but still had a great time. Adjusted the brakes and lubed the chain when I came home tonight so the bike is ready to go again tomorrow.

It stormed overnight and was barely raining when I left home, beautiful warm ride. It was just about light when I got work. One thing of note, about a mile from home I was riding east to west and about a mile north of me a transformer blew. Lit up the night sky my first thought was lighting, and the storms were back. Street lights and traffic lights were out for a few blocks.

First Soho DLX commute!
Holy $(@* it's fast. I wasn't expecting to see much of a difference in speed, but I guess I hadn't considered that my legs are conditioned to a 30+ pound dualie MTB with 2.X" all-terrain tires. I had a 25-30MPH headwind blowing off Lake Champlain (can't wait for the ride home!) and made it to work in the same time as I would with no wind on the old Liquid.
First gear was fine for the hill climb to my building. Comparable to the few road bikes I've ridden. Not a MTB granny gear for sure, but not bad.
Here she is before I put my accessories on...

I've always enjoyed rain-riding. As long as it's not a 40-days-40-nights downpour, and I'm not dealing with bad car traffic, that is.

It was a little wet this morning, still some mist from yesterday's rain in the air. On my way through some outer ring suburbs I saw one or two little pieces of aluminum siding and some tree leaves, a somber reminder of the tornado that came through North Minneapolis yesterday afternoon.

I don't think we've ever really met and I usually keep a pretty low profile. I was going to introduce myself a few times but didn't want to interupt your conversations. I was wearing khakis, a green iridescent shirt, patterned tie and riding a KHS Mocha folder.

48F, gray and breezy. Warmish edge to the air mixed with the chill of the cool front. Streets were damp from overnight rain. T-storms in the forecast this week.
I took it easy this morning, spinning in a modest gear with the occasional stoplight sprint to beat the yellow. I did not see one other cyclist today, which is weird.
