Wonderful morning, but there is something strange about the color of the sky. We are supposed to get dumped on with rain later in the day. I guess it will be a wet ride home. :)
|
Nice commute this morning. Cool and pleasant. A little foggy and some wet pavement due to the rain last night. All in all a nice commute.
|
Cold cold cold. Near freezing (frost on cars) and I left home wearing shorts and no gloves.
By the end of my trip I couldn't bear to touch the gear levers! Also my computer missed some distance so I think the cold is affecting the battery in the remote. |
It was cold down here too, this morning. At least it was bright and sunny in contrast to yesterday's rain. Time to get things set up for the change of season I think.
Cheers, Ed |
Today was the last humid wet day of summer here in Virginia. Nice ride, even though I had to rush in for a meeting. Tomorrow morning the temps will be in the 50s compared to 68 this morning. I can't wait. No meetings planned for tomorrow a.m., that's for sure.

Last nights was a disaster. I'd brought the bike in on the train in the morning and was in regular office clothes. I left at 5.30 and cycled to the station to find there were no trains running, and that the buses they'd ordered as replacements wouldn't take bikes. No problem I thought, much as I don't like riding 12 miles in anything other than padded shorts, I'd cycle home. Just got halfway across Canterbury when a freak storm hit - flash flooding and strong gusts. I was soaked through to the skin in seconds and riding through two inches of water. Half a mile of this and I decided I'd had enough and headed for the City's other station thinking I'd take the long route via the coast. Got there, no trains for 1hr20 minutes. Cyled back to the office, locked it up by my desk and begged a lift of someone in another department who was leaving at 7.

Sigh... I can't wait to get back to bike commuting. Last week I dropped a huge book on my middle toe of my left foot. Swelled up to the size of a large grape and a 13 mile bushwack hike on Saturday didn't help things. It was sooo painful saturday night I couldn't sleep. I had to put a mild tournequet on it to keep the throbbing down. Well yesterday after limping all day, I broke down and popped the sucka' A bucketful of pus and ooze came out but now it feels alot better.
So two days off the bike, I'll be back on the bike tomorrow! Hurray! For all the posts about how bad your commute was, at least you got to ride your bike. Think of that the next time. :) Jay |
Originally posted by Jay H Well yesterday after limping all day, I broke down and popped the sucka' A bucketful of pus and ooze came out but now it feels alot better. Jay Summer keeps hanging on as it usually does in September here. It was 101F yesterday on the ride home, but the humidity is so low (15%) that I really don't sweat until I get home and off the bike. This morning's weather couldn't be nicer. We're very lucky. |
Beautiful Cloudy weather thanks to a hurricane down in Baja. Took advantage of this and thought I would try an extra 13 miles going up the Scottsdale bike path. Nice morning, it sure was different being the one who had to go around the slower moving people (runners, skaters, walkers) as opposed to being the slower vehicle on the road. Beautiful 33 mile ride this morning!

well, thanks to isabel the path i usually take is still unrideable, so i had to take an unfamiliar route in to work in the cold rain and wind....
oh well, at least i didnt come to work complaining about the traffic the way everyone else was (and i wasnt late like them either) |
Good commute this morning. Prediction was for rain and wind in the afternoon, and boy were they right on the money. Fortunately, work ran late (as usual) and by the time I got out the wind and rain were gone. Of course, so was the sun. It is fall, no doubt about it.

Great commute this morning, clear skys and light head wind. I took the long way to work along the river and then up into the hills around the town I work in, it is just a beautiful day for a ride, I wanted to keep going but the responsible part of me took me to work. I did have a lady in a subaru wagon, with bike rack on the roof stop at an intersection and look directly at me as I approached and then stepped on the throttle and took off right in front of me, I had to brake to avoid hitting the side of her car. I guess she must be in a hurry?

The ride home last night was ok. Traffic was pretty heavy at times and there were quite a few traffic accidents on my route. Besides that the tempature in the afternoon has been pleasant.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. It is getting cold in the morning. Mid 40's(F) here and a slight breeze. This mornings ride in was nice. Again I took my time and relaxed coming in instead of trying to break some speed record. It has been refreshing doing that. |
Pretty dark ride about 1/2 the route, guess it wont be long before the I will be adding lights to the bike. My ride is all back roads, so there isn't much light, just an occasional street light.
I already have the blinky (which I use almost every time I ride, day or night) and this year I'm trying a white light called "enternal light". Its very bright and can operate in different flashing modes. So far, I think it has helped, because approching cars seem to slow down and make an effort not to cross over the center line. |
As with the my neighbors in Massachuesetts, we had heavy rain all afternoon. I hung out at the office until 6pm, at which time it finally let up. Blue sky started to show through the clouds and I made it home to catch a wonderful sunset on the ocean's edge.
This morning was cool (52F) and crispt. Not a could in the sky and a light wind. A fine day for a bike ride. |
Ahhh, my first ride in since the infamous toe incident. Get to feel the aftermath of Hurrican Isabel, lots of small branches down on the trail but there is now a new tree spewwed across the trail about 2 miles from work. Too big for me to hack it with a tree saw so I guess I'll have to hike my bike over it until the state water commision (who owns the property) comes by with a chainsaw...
Not too bad besides that one although the trail is very wet. With fall arriving, that means you'll have puddles hidden by leaves! Jay |
A beautiful ride in this morning. A "smiley" moon (bottom crescent moon) over the lightening eastern horizon of a calm Lake Ontario, refreshing temperatuire of +10 C (50 F) and all the drivers behaving themselves today. I missed bike commuting the last week, driving to work because I bought an 87 Ford pickup, had to go for safety check, emissions, etc. I'd rather buy another bike!

Wow - the seasons changed overnight! I awoke this morning to frost and polite but incessant requests from my wife to put the central heating on. Too right - at the weekend we were all in shorts.
The ride in was....bracing, but I'm reluctant to add extra layers and leg warmers just yet. The crisp clear sunshine was great though. I suspect a cold (..er than usual) winter ahead Cheers, Ed |
Cycled in through the remnants of Hurricane Marty. Nice drizzle all the way in. Just enough to make the ride really nice. Good ride (don't get a lot of chances to ride in rain down here).
|
Just like Paul L., I cycled home last night in a nice drizzle. It was about 70F and was probably one of the best commutes home in months. Very nice :)

My ride home was great today. Cool temps and almost dark when I got home! I took a route I haven't done in a while and was soon very sorry I did so b/c there were patches of road surface removed for an eventual resurfacing. It made for a terrible ride for a few miles.
Otherwise I made it home quickly, it seemed, as I found myself daydreaming a bit. |
Today was the first day back to work on the bike. Medication and some time off the saddle got rid of the preasure sores. (Praise God!) It was really nice to be back on the bike again. My innaugural (sp?) ride was a nice easily paced 12.5 miles to my Mom's house yesterday. It went well so I decided to give commuting a whirl again. Great ride, My average speed is down a little, But who cares, I'm not Lance Armstrong. I can't wait 'till my 'Bent gets here!
|
Chilly but sunny again today. This is great commuting weather!

Windy ride home last night. Made it for a tough ride. Very tiring.
The ride in this morning was one of the best yet! Barely any traffic, no wind, nice temps and eerily quiet. I made most of the traffic lights too. I hope the rest of the day goes this well! |
Went to the garage this morning to find I had a rear flat.
Went back in to the house with my bottom lip tripping me, f'ing and blinding and generally stomping about. My wife asked in a calm voice if I was going to fix it. I calmed down fixed it (big thorn) then had a very pleasant cycle in. |
