Nice ride in this morning; cool, only a slight hint that it had rained overnight, and, although I left a little late, I made up the time and arrived at the same time. It was the ride home that was so great though. Beautiful, sunny, a following wind, and temps in the mid 60's. I stopped near home to watch hunting Osprey on the Potomac, near the power plant, then took a leisurely ride around Old Town stopping at 5 Guys for a burger. I had been craving one all day, but just couldn't justify it as I've been starting to trim down for summer. So I compromised, bacon double cheeseburger, but no fries (I know....). Stuffed it in my backpack and ate it at home with pepperoncinis and a Pale Ale from from my favorite Pennsylvania microbrewery, then, a long nap on the couch--it was heaven... I've never thought of beer as a refreshing, post-ride treat. Usually it's water, Gatorade, maybe cold milk, but today that really hit the spot. Getting ready to top off my tires for tomorrow's ride. Although this week's been a bit of a struggle, I'm going for the all ride week (my commuting friend will owe me dinner if I make it-that's how we motivate eachother).

Good ride to work and home. There was a lot of bud on part of my ride today . But over all it was a good ride . have a good nite .
|
I didn't get rained on today but the leading edge of the trof was kicking up some headwind.
Today's the last commute day on my current ride. Taking tomorrow off work to go to Santa Cruz and pick up my NEWWWWW HOTNESSSSSS!! 1300 miles on the GT since last July when I started commuting (minus a 3 month break when my kid was brand-new and sleep dep led me to drop the biking). Six flats - four on the rear and two on the front. 15 pounds of body weight lost and lots of great rides gained. Hopefully someone on eBay will give it a good home, it's carried me well but I mus' be movin on up. |

The ride into work this morning was nice and slow. I woke up early enough to add a mile or so to my route and was able to stop by the store for a bottle of grape juice. Oh boy do I love some grape juice. My legs were pretty sore however from the ride last night. |
Once again my parade was rained on. Actually it was more of a rain/ice mix. It was clear out for the 45 minutes before I left for work, but it started raining the minute I stepped out the door dressed in my biking gear. Naturally the rain ended a few minutes after I got to work (in my car). I have lots of errands to run after work and little time, so I suppose I'll be able to get everything done faster if I have my car. There are some parcels to pick up, and I'm not even sure if they would have fit in my rack bag to begin with. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow it will clear up.

Today is -2C, windy, cloudy and a little snowy. The commute was pretty good. I jacked up the tire pressure to 100psi before I left so I rolled along pretty easily. Good thing because the wind was a little bit of a b**tch.
Have a great day! |
sunny and cool, an honest spring day. felt good to be on the bike again after some traveling (went to d.c., had to smile at all the folks milling around farragut square with their pistas - wished i could have been riding one, right then).

Finally back in the saddle this week after 2 weeks off due to bronchitis. It feels great to be riding to work again, 26.5 miles round trip. Great base miles for weekend hammer rides with the spandex clad highly caffeinated boys, and for century rides this summer. Temps are on the cool side for us this time of year, but it's fine for riding. Ride on!

I had a nice commute today. Commute #4. Not much wind, low 50's was the morning temp. We are supposed to hit 73 degrees this afternoon, so I should have good ride home.

Just had a nice commute to the local Mexican restaurant. My taco salad turned out to be a little soupy but I had a nice conversation with a couple of kids coming out. One of them thought I was a civil engineer because of my reflective vest (they had career day today apparently).
So we exchange bicycle interests and they asked why I rode a bike since I was old enough to drive. I reminded them how fun it was and then I told them that I save a lot of money and I can spend it on toys. They seemed to understand that. The dad seemed to appreciate it as well. I've really enjoyed all the doors that cycling seems to have opened with strangers. People may seem to think we're crazy but they seem fascinated by us none the less. And I don't really like people but it's hard to ignore the genuine interest. |
Good ride to work, but when I came out to get on my bike my rear tire had a flat. So I went to fix it and the pump was broken. So I had to fix the pump before I had to fix the flat. It took me about 30 minutes to fix both. Overall a good ride. So tomorrow I think I will go to the lbs to get a pump. Have a good night.

chilly morn but nice ride. Too busy to post yesterday which was a good commute to work but one windy mother goin' home. Tonights return will be wet. Saw a bent yesterday. Don't see many of those in the AM commute

Come on rain...I dare you...That is my motto today. Weather report is calling for it but it hasn't rained during my commute since I bought fenders for my bike a month ago. So anyway the commute this morning was good, the wind was down (has been VERY windy here lately as it is every spring) and it wasn't raining yet...couple wet spots on the road but nothing falling.

around 40 °F and heavily overcast; rain on the way, it is said. the ride in was ordinary, with the ordinary mixture of considerate and inconsiderate motorists, chirping birds and a few stray cyclists.
|
Got another late start this morning and had to endure heat and traffic on the way in. No bad encounters, except for some overly polite cagers motioning me into on coming traffic. Happily, this is the last day of my dangerous highway underpass commute. Taking a week off then moving to a different office downtown. All bike paths and neighborhood streets from now on...

Didn't ride today...
Hitting the pawn shops again to see if my Marin Larskpur (stolen 1 1/2 weeks ago) shows up. |

Six days in a roll of commuting . Not a bad ride today.
But we still had some rain . Have a good nite . |
Today's commute was a thing of beauty. I didn't have to get to work until 1, so I rode to the bike shop (9 miles) so they could do the crank swap they tried to do earlier but had the wrong bottom bracket for. (my JTS is now a triple). There is just something special about rolling up to the bike shop on your bike and having them work on it while you walk to a nearby restraunt for some lunch. I got back to the bike shop and they had it done. The guy was pretty cool. I told him no to the new chain (big ring went up to 52 from 48), and that I would avoid the big-big and big-next to big to avoid the cost of a new chain. When I got back he just told me he added 2 links from his extra parts drawer no charge :D. Happy day. (still will avoid big-big).
I hopped back on my bike and rode to work and got here a bit early (hence the posting). On the way from the shop to work, It started either hailing tiny little white balls of ice along with spitting rain. The noise was pretty cool. Unfortunately I didn't have my jacket and was only wearing a sweatshirt. Its now hanging in my locker to dry. Only bad thing about today's commute was that I broke the retaining pin on my bike computer, so there's nothing to hold it snug anymore. I guess its time for a bit of tape and a permanent mount. Bike is nearly done. Waiting on a rear derailleur and a wide-range cassette and then I'll call it done and post some pics. |
cold morning. I was getting use to warmer days, not so this AM. Upper 30'sF/3C. Still wore shorts but wish I hadn't. Should be a warmer day ahead.
|
A bit nippy this morning with temps in the low 30s and a slight headwind. The sky is overcast and spitting mist. I managed to forget my helmet this morning, I don't recall the last time that happened. There were four others out on bikes this morning. The weather is supposed to hold like this through the day with our high being in the 40s.
|
Sunny this morning, but unseasonably cold in northern IL. I thought I'd take a slightly different route to stay out of the wind. So I took a forest preserve bike path I've never tried before. I quickly found myself in maze of twisty little limestone passages, frequented by the horsey set. Rough and yuck. :(
Planning on the highway this afternoon. |
Road my new touring bike to work for the first time. A great bike in traffic. Only problem is there seemed to be plenty of rude, agressive drivers out today. One passed me really close on rte. 1, zoomed past me to get about 20 feet ahead and gave me quite a scare. :(
|
My first commute since April 19th. Had a little vacation on Oahu. :)
High 30s F here this morning. Headwind. Not too bad though. Felt good to be back on the cycle. Passed a couple of guys on mountain bikes. One had a huge over-stuffed backpack and was holding a briefcase in his right hand. Hmm! |
Chilly, yet invigorating. My motto for the week is "a clean butt is a happy butt". :)

Nice weather but I had a bit of an equipment scare that made today's ride in slower than I was really happy with. I was finding it really difficult to shift up to the big chainring, and even when I got it to shift the front der was rubbing like it was trying to derail back down. I spent a few minutes flipping out about this and then it struck me: New bike! New cables! The cables are stretching... just give the barrel adjuster a crank and take out the slack. Four or five half-turns and sho'nuff -- shifts beautifully again. That was the only real problem but it was enough to throw me off balance and take it easy for the rest of the ride, causing me to miss a few "easy" lights. Gonna be a nice warm one for the ride home though.
|
Cold this morning. Temp. was 22F when I headed out the door. Cold and sunny. Felt more like November.
|
Oh yeah, speaking of mechanical failures, last Thu on the way home, I was sitting back on my seat, pumping up a long hill and . . . . CRACK! . . . seatpost bolt completely sheared off. Fortunately, I did not crash, but then I had to peddle about 2 mi the rest of the way home, standing up. That is difficult!
