Had a really nice ride in today. Working on my second straight day of commuting. Trying to get a whole week in, which hasn't happened ever. Weather is pleasant, low 70's, no wind and traffic was light.
|
rode most of the way today, blew off the train. Very humid. Expected afternoon temps to be in the mid 90's with similar humidity. Train is starting to sound pretty good. Don't know if I've got another 20+ in the legs at those temps. We'll see

yesterday's south wind turned to the west and picked up steam during the day - blew me off the road a couple of times. this morning it is 74 °F (dew point is 65 °F) and skies are fair. there was a red sky this morning, though, and this sailor needs no more warning than that to pack his shell, just in case he wants to be somewhat drier on the way home.

Good Commute today....Rain all the way in and 14C ta-boot. I nearly got hit today by a minivan mom who was in too much of a hurry to look both ways before turning left from a parking lot. Good thing one of the two of us was paying attention. I just had that feeling she wasn't going to look at me before proceeding to turn left across my lane of traffic. You should have seen the look on her face as I slammed on my brakes and she started to go and then saw me. Wow. I am sure she had to go home to change her underwear. Thank goodness for my defensive cycling skills; I don't think I look very good as a hood ornament.

Nice commute this morning. High 50s/low 60s, no real wind to speak of, and my legs were feeling strong. I ride the roadie this morning - shoes and laptop were already at the office, so a small backpack was plenty big enough to fit clothes and lunch. If the weather is nice this afternoon, I think I might just have to take the long way home!
|
I had a fast and humid ride in this morning. Traffic was cooperative, sun shining and birds singing.
|
43 degrees, light wind on the way in. 80 later this afternoon? We shall see. Nice ride in this morning, though.
|
I'll just let out a huge sigh of relief due to my afternoon commute. Light rain, temperatures in the high 60Fs. No more near-90-with-high-humidity sweatbox rides!
Summer was nice while it lasted. Now where's the snow? :p |
Rode the "A" bike in today with the hope that I might be able to sneak out and get in a long detour home. With hell all breaking loose at the 5 o'clock hour, that didn't happen. Then my wife called at 5:30 to say she needed me at the house to feed, bathe, mind the kids while she ran an urgent errand. So I just changed shoes and hopped on the bike.
Flying down 15th Street, drafting a bus at 29mph, I feel my tie flapping in the breeze and I think to myself, Those people in cars don't know what they're missing. |
Not a great start today. It was pouring with rain and on opening the shed, I discover that commuter no.1 has a punctured rear tire. Not as bad a day though, as it must have been for the driver of the mini that I passed on a country lane. The car was almost vertical, nose-up as it had spun on the road and flipped into the ditch  There was plenty of debris on the road to suggest that it took an interesting route on the way to its final resting place
I'm Just glad I was nowhere near when this happened! Cheers, Ed |
It's so hot, bikes will melt if you leave them outside for too long :D
http://www.glassie.com/images/famine-340-exp-Double.jpg Wednesday: Mostly sunny and hot. Highs in the mid-upper 90s. Our heat indices will reach 100 degrees for a few hours this afternoon. |
Morning wake up temp was 78F. PM rides promises to be different. Wonderful ride despite the humidity as I saw a Baltimore Oriole(not the millionaire orioles but the feathered O's). Brighter orange than my jersey. Been years since I've seen one. Glad to see they are still around.

Today was the first day it wasn't blazingly hot, and I was eager to ride. Somehow though, despite only being 78 degrees, it felt incredibly warm, and I arrived at work more sweaty then I ever remember. I guess it must be the humidity. There -is- a pretty thick haze hanging over the valley..so maybe.
I was so happy to find the AC cranking in the office. Sometimes they don't get it going early enough and I'm hot all day. - Don |
Drove today. But as I was driving down the offramp I saw a cyclist riding UP the onramp to head the wrong way on a [limited access] divided highway. I just don't understand what goes through some people's minds.

My helmet fell apart (plastic cover came off the foam), so I borrowed my wife's this morning. Now that I look at it, I see that it has very few (and small) vents. I'm going to have to get over to the bike shop and get something decent. - Don |
Well... yet another rainy ride in this morning. The weather folks said we've had rain 30 out of the last 45 days... what a treat... hmmmm. It's suppose to clear up today and they tell us we may actually see more then one nice day in a row!!!! I'll believe it when I see it. I still had a nice bike commute in this morning, my Goretex jacket is getting allot of use.

I took the longer way home yesterday - it was an awesome afternoon for a ride. Slight breeze out of the SE meant a mostly-tailwind for me. My wife had a late meeting downtown last night, so it was just me and the cat at home. Fired up the Weber and cooked up some soy-garlic marinated pork steaks, roasted some red peppers, and grilled some sliced zucchini squash. I have awesome leftovers for lunch! :D
For some reason, I felt stupidly tired this morning. The ride in woke me up nicely... I was going fast enough that I realized at the 10 mile mark that I'd be early, so I took a slight detour that added on another couple of miles. |
It was a shakey start for me this morning. I pulled the trusty steed out of the garage and clipped my right foot on. My wife gave me a kiss and I fell over sittttin still. We both had a good laugh.... The weather was great, warm 60d, no wind, it don't get any better than this.
|
Fifty-three degrees and a light breeze on the way in. Wind is suppose to pick up later in the day. Great, a headwind going home! Still beats driving!
|
A slow commute today, because of the wind. It freaks me out when it's blowing sideways, it feels like it's gonna knock me over!
I also hope that it doesn't rain this afternoon, because the wind is supposed to continue.... |
Temperature was 80 degrees on the ride in this morning. Yesterday's ride home the temp was in the high 90s. Humidity is up also, but all in all the ride in was nice. No traffic and I beat my time from yesterday. If I ride in tomorrow, it'll be my first four consecutive days riding in. Hope the wife doesn't ask me to run an errand on the other side of town.
|
Hi, I commute about 30k roundtrip and am glad to see the winds are still blowing in my direction for the ride home :)
|
Greens all the way... the only reds I got were right where I needed to take a breather anyway.
Whoo Hoo! |
I feel so left out. Didn't ride Mon, Tues or today because of appointments after work. Tomorrow and Friday will be back to normal then off to Atlanta for a week. I don't anticipate doing any riding on vacation.
I will probably be looking forward to getting back to work just to ride again. What has happened to me. I used to be so content getting watching TV eating bon bons. |
Tailwind the whole way home. Awesome. It felt so much like cheating that I blew straight past my house and did a short ride around the neighbourhood to add another 10 miles. :D
|
Very nice. In between downpours so the trail was wet in places. Quite a few rec riders out toddling around on MTBs. Dropped them like hot rocks. Saw one young woman on a road bike, dressed in performance gear and looking cute. We passed in opposite directions and gave each other "how ya doin" nods.
And I did my good deed for the week! Climbing a short hill near home, I came across a poor painter turtle trying to scamper across the road. I stopped in front of it and herded it to the other side. This was a residential street so there weren't any cars coming. Cute little guy. Or gal, perhaps. |
Cold and raining today. No ride for me...
|
Ah, there's nothing like the first time... you get hit while commuting. Yep, happened today, only on day four of commuting to this new job (I've bike commuted before to other jobs). Thank goodness it was about as minor as it could be. An octogenarian came up from behind me and clipped my left bar end with her car's right side-view mirror. Thank goodness for collapseable mirrors. She wasn't even sure what happened. I yelled out loudly some obscenity, then calmed down and talked to her politely at the next red light. Poor old lady was a bit flustered. I told her what happened and fixed her mirror. :)

Nice and cool ride in this morning. Temps in the 60s, traffic light, legs felt good and I broke my old best time.
