Great ride this morning. Left about 20 minutes earlier, and significantly less traffic.
About 53 degrees when leaving the house, light mist. Seattle, typical June.
Saw the rooster again under the West Seattle bridge. Nice ride through the port and downtown. Not too many other cyclists. Immediately caught a bus across the lake and then a leisurely 3 miles left to the office.

37 degrees and cloudy on the ride in. I have a feeling I am going to get wet on the way home.

Hmmmm... sounds like we're not the only area getting allot of rain. Yesterday morning I left on my 21 commute to our state office for an all day meeting and I've got some really nasty dark clouds coming up on me from behind. It gets really dark, allot of thunder and lightning and starts to sprinkle. I put on my rain jacket and proceed... it stops and starts to clears. As I ride I notice the roads in front of me saturated with standing water and a few branches, but it's clearing! I bet you all didn't know I could part the waters did you? This morning it was pretty wet and messy but I stayed dry. I'm enjoying my riding though. I wonder what will come next?

Slept in, so I got going after dawn.
On an uphill climb I spotted a wild strawberry growing along the side of the road. It was ripe – and delicious! For those who have never had a wild strawberry, they are very small – pea sized, but taste like concentrated strawberry. One little wild fruit has all the flavor and sweetness of 2 domestic berries concentrated into it. What a way to start the day!

Soaking rain this morning. When I walked in, the security guard says "Nice day for a ride, huh?"

I said, "It's ALWAYS a nice day for a ride!"

She laughed and said, "Good for you."

Bit of a sucky day... caught what seemed like every light... and twice was passed by some motorists (different ones) that just had to make the point that they were passing me... gunning the engine like gas was free. On the funny side though, in both cases I was right behind them at the next couple of lights, thus proving that their little "game" gained them nothing.

Hot ride to work and home .Still a good ride today .
I hope the weather say like this for the summer .

During a nice commute last night I spotted a co-worker flagging me down. She was in a parking lot about 2 miles from the office. Waving her arms, shouting John! John!

I pulled over to offer my assistance, when she said, "do you want a lift". "What", I said. She mentioned that it was too hot to ride, and was worrried about me. The temperature was around 85, no humidity and a slight breeze. Pretty close to perfect for commuting. Naturally I declined, thanked her and continued on my merry way.

Some just don't understand.

:p No, they don't. Wait'll it rains and she offers you another ride.

I had a fast commute today. I noticed a rider far behind me so I picked up the pace. He never caught up. Sometimes I feel silly doing that but it does give me more work to do. I passed two other riders in the process.

I also got uppity! :eek: In Burlington the trail winds past the lake waterfront and they're setting up tents and what-not for the city-wide jazz festival. Two people had decided to use the trail as a service road and parked their pickup trucks in the middle of the pavement. Pedestrians aren't even supposed to be on this part of the trail, and here I've got two trucks blocking it. I guess I had a bunch of adrenaline in me because I slowed way down to work past the trucks and yelled, "YOU GUYS NEED TO MOVE THESE TRUCKS!" Then for emphasis, and I'm usually not one to be so glib, I yelled over my shoulder, "OR I'll MOVE THEM FOR YOU!" Pointless, really. Yet satisfying. :o

First post in a couple of weeks. Bike was in the shop last week. Cannondale replaced crank and chain in attempt to cure dreaded "chain suck". Beautiful morning today with sun lighting up big cloud build ups. Afternoon forecast promises heat and tstorms.

I had a really relaxing, cool ride in this morning. For some reason, I wake up every morning looking forward to getting on the bike!! I ride down the road singing old oldies tunes in my head. I am not the fastest out there, but boy do I LOVE it!!

Perfect temp, around 14 or 15C. Warm enough to be comfy in shorts and a T, but cool enough that you don't over heat. Plus, it had rained the night before so all the gross in the air was gone.

Didn't bike in this morning, as the shoes were still squishy from last night when i got caught in a torrential downpour.

While the rain felt good (it was 90 degrees before it began), I didn't appreciate the wind and flying debris. And seeing a tree branch come down just off the road to my right was a bit scary.

And then there was lightning, and I'm thinking to myself 'Being on a metal bike probably isn't the best place to be'.

Cool and clear on the way in. Had a surprise going home last night though. I put a shower cap on my seat yesterday in case it decided to rain. Well, when I went out to go home, some assclown swiped my cap! Oh, well, it is cheap and I have another.

Performed an embarrassing, less-than-graceful dismount this morning; my bike and I got
tangled and collapsed in a twisted pile outside of work. I somehow hurt my #2 right toe.
It's all swollen, with a nice, dark bruise all the way around the first joint, like a toe ring.
How do I know if it's broken? Should I be in excruciating pain, and unable to move the toe?
It's not that bad, just can't put too much pressure on it. I just got some electrical tape and
taped it to my #3 toe, using it as a splint of sorts.

Up at 5 as usual when wifey says, "your not riding today are you".

We are going into town tonight for dinner and a festival and she is worried, (rightfully), that the extra hour of bike commuting will prevent us from getting into the restaurant we plan on dining.

This is called building up equity, eh?

That is pretty much what a doctor would do, only with more expensive tape. Toes and fingers are difficult to tell if they are broken, dislocated or just sprained. Your choices are obvious. Or as the kids say, "What evaaaah".

Today was a pleasant enough ride, but very humid, I was drenched when I got to work. We have been having rain basically, at some point, every day for 2 weeks. And it is warm, in the mid-eighties for temps.

About the toe... Be sure you've got blood flow to the end of it. Sounds painful! Mend well.

This morning was one of those rides where everything feels in harmony. The bike rode smooth, my body felt great, and I hit every green light right on. My bike and I were one. Before leaving this morning, I had to change out the front brake cable and housing plus change the rear tube. Maybe that helped build the bond this morning. I didn't expect to feel all that great this morning -- I had a late night softball game and went to bed at midnight (not good when you have to be up at 5 AM).

Spoken like a man who knows what it's like to screw up, then cash in those points! (can I get a witness?) ;)

Have wifey pick you up... that way you at least get in 1/2 the ride... going to dinner tomorrow myself... 21st anniversary... she is picking me up. Something of a tradition. I did not own a car when we dated... way back when. :D

I gave blood last week and have been dragging on my commune and training rides all week.

Been posting my miles over on bikejournal.com with the Bike Forums team: We have steadily moved up and are now in 16th place. Today was the best cycling weather of the week, mostly sunny & about 71F. Saw lots of wildlife this morning. & also rode a ways with another commuter. We chatted a bit about our new bikes before he had to turn off.

Had to work over tonite . But still a good ride to work and home . Have a good nite .

You might remember the radar I posted yesterday. I waited out the worst of it, then left for home. Got wet but not drippingly so. It was pleasant.

This morning I was hunting down a cyclist who's tracks I saw on the dry parts of the trail. Took me about 3 miles but I spotted him and realized I was reeling him in like a little fish. Turned out to be my next door neighbor who was also commuting. We did the rest of the ride together. Got rained on a little bit just as I was arriving at the office.
