Nice and brisk this morning in shorts and short sleeved shirt. I had a pretty major tune up to my bike over the weekend (new chain, cassette, brake pads, headset adjusted, wheels trued, shifters adjusted), and it made such a difference!

Rode in the dirt yesterday, so my legs are feeling worked.

This morning was just beautiful... a foggy mist covered several sections of the river trail... I thought I was starting to get an ugly squawking noise from my just-repacked front hub, when I realized that it was ducks talking, and my hub was humming along all glassy and smooth. Low battery light started to flash on the headlight, about halfway in, but it's light enough now in the mornings that I could turn it off for the rest of the river section, and save it for the city streets I have to hit to get to the triain station. I should be able to get home ahead of sunset no problem, but I've got a backup cateye in the trunk, anyway.

I think everyone was feeling it this morning, other bikers finger-waved, peds fairly leapt from my intended path.

This is Day Two of my no-chamois experiment. Just wore Levi's baggy shorts and Merona seamless skivvies. No discomfort, thus far.

Had a hard time getting motivated to ride this morning. So, I lounged around the house for an extra hour or so puttering around getting my stuff together. Over the weekend I wanted to get a big ride in, so I pulled off the studs and even cleaned and oiled the chain. The bike rides soooo smooth now, and fast.

After riding 40 hilly miles yesterday, I aparrently did not properly refill the tank last night. Half way to work this am I noticed that I was really hungry....2 minutes later I was getting weak. Bonk! Guess I should toss in a snack bar or 2 for next time I do that. Trying to lose weight and significant cycling miles is a delicate balance of calories in vs calories burned.

Only 1 idiot tried to kill me on the way in... was crossing over a freeway exit ramp, [I had the green] and this fool was looking back behind me and started to pull forward. At the last second he returned his gaze forward and got that "oh crap, I almost killed a cyclist" face. I was already evasive and would have cleared but the look on his face was priceless

Got a late start today. I filled the tires last night and had put on the fenders while they were low, so 1/2 block down the road this morning, I noticed that the tire was rubbing the fender on a slightly rased section of my wheel. I did a roadside repair and was back on my way. Tailwind the whole way (8.5 miles) which felt great although I really did not have the gearing for it. I have been riding 60 gear-inches all winter and am ready to step up to at least 63 or maybe even 67. I am a spinner anyway but this morning was spinning around 110 most of the way. Time for a gearing change. Felt the first rain drop 1/2 mile from work. Just missed it.

Cold, wet, and rainy. I got some nice tire spray up my backside (I didn't ride the bike with fenders today; it needs some wheel work).

And all this, just as the weather was really starting to warm up.

Commute this AM was great, great to be back into the routine of cycle commuting after being off the bike for ~6wks due to injury. The first week back I felt a bit off, both physically (endurance) and mentally (not feeling 'one' with the bike). Now I think I'm back in the groove.

That sums up my ride pretty well. I didn't expect as much rain as we got. Last night they were saying around 30% chance of rain. I usually ride if its 40% or less. It was raining steadily most of the way to work though and now I see the forcasts say 70% chance of rain. Though I did get wetter from tire spray than the actual rain. No fenders on my road bike and my mountain bike is still in pieces and in need of fixing. One of these weekends I am going to fix it up. I am hoping that it dries up for the ride home but I doubt that will happen.

A fresh coating of snow for my bike commute in this morning but it was just below freezing. Nice ride! Fresh and clean! It looks like we are in for a gloomy cloudy day. It goes with the time of year.

Rain. Often this means my wife gives me a hard time about riding, but since her car wouldn't start, no hassles (must remember to re-attach her battery cables before she gets home).

Soaking wet on the ride but happy. Then I hear this weird noise from the rear tire. It's the sound of the frikking nail I just rode over (never saw it, of course) hitting the ground on each rotation of the wheel. Damn.

First the humiliation of walking the bike along a busy road to a shelter. Then trying to change out the tube with shaking hands because I'm so cold. Water running down into my shoes.

But--and I know I don't need to tell any of you this--it's still better than driving.

Cloudy this morning and a bit cool. It took about ten minutes to get to the office.

I was sick last Friday, but for last week I had 3 commutes out of 4. The one I missed was due to needing to use my car for work, and the work car was being repaired.

For the year I am -1 for bike commutes, which is easier than figuring out the running total.

Now it is 1:35 PM, 2 hours and 25 minutes till closing and it is pouring here in sunny southern California.

No commute since last Friday. My sister in-law, boy friend, and 2 kids are living with us. They have been sick for about a month partly due to fast food 100% of the time, no exercise, and cigarette smoke.
Now it jumped to me. With the exception of a stomach flu incident last month, this is the first time I have been sick since september with a possible cold. However, a 101 degree temp on Saturday is not indicative of a cold. If it persists tomorrow I am visiting my dr. Stupid dry and incessant cough
Yet another reason why a married couple and child should NEVER EVER let someone else move in with them. That and the mice they brought into my garage.
Sorry, this has nothing to do with cycling. Just wanted to vent.
It's almost time to think about asking them to leave.

Switched my commute to a 20 mile each way route, had to do it sooner or later if I wanna be able to hold my own when I do the BTC in June...but DANG it kicked my butt...some slack jaw on an electric motor assisted mountain bike passed me on about mile 17 or 18 and it flat out pissed me off. I tried to catch back up, but he was able to sustain like 18-20 MPH (must have been, cuz I was doing 16-18 up hill and he was pulling away) Unfortunantly his battery never gave out and I couldn't catch him. I hope I see him again on flatter ground cuz I'll run his battery ragid and then pull away :-)

Nice morning though, weather just starting to turn, almost warm enough to loose the tights but still layering in the morning.

AM in sucked! at area where 4 lanes and dummy middle lane is, a cop i assume was on the way to work, or undercover (had uniform on but driving blue/green camery) pulled next to me, told me i needed to get off the road, that this area was not for bikes. i told him that i have the same rights and responsibilities on the road as he did, legally.
he stated he would give me a summons next time and drove off. this helped get me stay fired-up for the day. it's bad when the law enforcers are not clear about the laws. now i spent another 2 hours looking for NJ specific statutes so i can copy,high-lite, and educate our local policeat the station. NJ legal website is down today! i have contacted the Bicycle Coalition of South Jersey too.
(this is not the first time the police were not clear about laws here).
ride home was good! vent over...

on spring break this week (poor me, huh?). so no commute. nice road rides yesterday and today. it's a whole different world on the road bike with tights and jersey. the bike felt super light but my legs at times felt super heavy. just glad to be out and riding in early March no matter how slow.

Commute home was fine. At lunch I went to the LBS. As I was leaving, I looked at my bike, thought, "It's only 3 blocks. I'll just walk, I need the exercise." Since when did walking become exercising as opposed to biking?

The kids aren't fat and neither is her boyfriend. Due to his acne and being 37, I suspect usage of a particular popular drug, meth. Letting them move in was one of our worst decisions.
No, no one smokes in my house. I'm a militant anti smoker. My sister in-law has asthma also. Her older sister (not my wife) and mother have emphysema. Very smart for all them to smoke. My wife is working on quitting and now has extra insentive. She does not want either condition. Now if I could just get the wife to start cycling. All she has had were x-mart bikes. I'm thinking a nice entry level bike for her bday may be in order. Anyhow, I'm rambling even worse than normal due to the meds.
I want to commute so flippin' bad. Just not at the point where it will help. I'd probably get sicker. Our dry weather is also bringing the allergy season on early. ugh!

Good ride in this morning - bit of a headwind, but not much to worry about, 50 degrees (with 93% humidity!) when I left the house, so pretty comfortable all the way in. I guess the short, slow run I managed yesterday morning did more to my legs than I knew, because they were BURNIN' all the way to the office. Felt like I was in pain (good pain...) the whole way, and moving pretty slow - so naturally, I beat my fastest commute by over two minutes.

Ride home was good, too, but the winds had shifted and were in my face half the way home. Tried a new route today; I think I won't be taking that one again. Road was awful bumpy, traffic was lousy... Probably worse than the section of my normal route that I was trying to avoid.

the commute in was good... and since my night class was my only class today, I went in at 3:30PM or so. temps in the high 40's but I was somewhat tired going in. other than a slam-on-the-brakes moment at one intersection (car at a 4-way stop decided to go at the same time I did), it was the usual pleasant, problem-free ride in.

the commute back was a night commute, probably one of the last night commutes of the winter season. the batteries ran out on my main tail light right before I set out, luckily I always keep some extra batteries in my backpack so a quick change of batteries and I was good to go. pretty smooth commute back, although it seemed like I was just a little bit slower than usual. got buzzed by a Jeep (about a foot and a half clearance I'd guess) but other than that no traffic problems. the big hill about 3/4 of the way home really kicked my ass on the ride back, I was a lot more tired than I usually am after doing that hill. overall a good ride today though.

Not quite as windy this morning as it was yesterday afternoon. Today's weird occurrence: I was out of the saddle climbing a short hill when I noticed this car fairly close behind, not passing me. After cresting the hill the car pulled up next to me and the passenger side window came down. Then a girl who couldn't have been older than seventeen shouted out the window that she loves me and the car sped away.
