Holy tailwind!!!

My first perfect tailwind of the season with winds at 15-20 mph!!!

17.25 miles in 54:25 at 19mph. Oh yeah, it was on my mountain bike!!!

I've been slacking on the commute. Late nights and early mornings make me tired and desire sleep more than riding. I forced myself to ride and I'm glad I did. There was construction at the first intersection so I detoured and back tracked which threw a couple of quick steep hills in the route. Coming home I dodge a couple right hooks. I guess the guy in the Kia had an emergency at home, I can't fathom any other reason why anyone would take a corner so sharp and fast and reckless (too bad it was wreckless!)

Wow 19 on a Mountain Bike, guessing that would have been >25 on a road bike.

My commute was gorgeous today. Perfect weather. I'm a bit run down due to a head cold that's slowly finding it's way out of my body and very long days the last two weeks. But the bike ride is the best part of the day. Just a little slower than usual but oh, so pleasant. Had to book from one location to a second in order to be on schedule and that gave me a good workout.

how wet did i get on this morning's ride? so wet that i baggied my feet before i put them back in those shoes 9 hours later it was that really wild, crazy, halloween's a-comin', lost-at-sea kind of weather, with raindrops like bullets and a wind with muscles and the air so full of water in general it's like you're just in your own little travelling time-pod, you and your bike. it was a rush.

and then the ride home was calm and cool and tranquil. and those baggies worked great.

43* this morning. Decided to take the morning off and load the bike on the bus' rack. Well, I missed the bus (I'm sure it was early, four folks at another stop said the same). It winds through another neighborhood before coming out onto a main road, and I decided I could catch it by taking the main road. 2.5 miles later, it worked!! Good thing, because I was wearing my work clothes and dark jacket, no earband and no gloves. I didn't really want to ride the whole way in.

Looking forward to upper 60's and a perfect ride home...

I was having a great ride this morning. It was cooler than normal which encouraged me to ride hard and fast all the way to work. Unfortunately when I got to the last light before my office everything changed. As I pulled up to the light I took the lane and waited for it to change. A few seconds later a Toyota Tacoma pick up pulled behind me and in my opinion a little close to my rear wheel. When the light turned green I hammered my way across the intersection, taking the lane the whole way because once I cross the street I have to take an immediate left. Then I hear the pick-up's engine gunning, it sounds like he's flooring it. He swerves around me and left hooks me before my turn. Then he shouts out the window that I should get an f***** car and takes off down the street. I don't know why this set me off, maybe it's because I still had plenty of adrenaline from the ride but I was literally ready to fight the guy.

What get's me is I don't understand what was bothering this guy. I was at the light before he arrived. I hammered my way across the intersection and the speed limit on these roads is only 25 at most waiting behind me would have delayed the guy by 5 or 10 seconds.

Cage commute today. Gotta leave early and get to the airport fast after work. It's a nice cool morning. Good for riding.

Rode the Rock Lobster this morning with it's new Tufo tires and new Neuvation superlight wheels and new miche 12-27 cassette - Mount morning was still a drag. I guess I need to go to 28 - Nice thing about miche is that I can change just that one cog.

The Tufo's rock! Very smooth ride at 160 psi. Who'da thunk it? They are so called tubular clinchers. Basically tubular tires that mount on clincher rims for the unaware.

One point on a downhill headed towards an intersection with a busy road and cars approaching - with my right hand dangling by my side - I applied the front brake with plenty of time to stop leisurely and NOTHING HAPPENED. I squeezed harder and reached up to grab the rear brake when it caught. Whew! I was about to try out my baseball slide. Seems someone didn't check the front brake pad adjustment after putting on the new wheels. DOH!! One pad was hitting the braking surface and the other was barely catching a couple of mm of the braking surface. Surprised I got 8 miles in before I had problems.

Also rode with a fellow commuter for about a couple of blocks. We decided it was chilly today. 49 on the office thermometer when I arrived but the weather channel said 55.

Sub 40 today...somewhat overcast. This was the first day I had to wear long pants riding in (thankfully I bought some velcro straps a while back). I really need to get a cap that fits under my helmet and one of those ear cover thingies...everything was fine except for that

40f, pouring rain, and a 40mph headwind... I couldn't talk my bike into going out in that. So it sits all snug and warm in the dining room today. Freakin wussy bike.

Chilly for the first 5 minutes or so. Then I got warmed up and really enjoyed the leisurely ride in. Took 38 minutes this morning. Got some funny looks from people who I guess could not believe someone would dare be outside on a fall morning Funny how most of those people looked really out of shape (if you know what I mean).

Got to work and again the showers are closed for cleaning. WTF? Don't they know that a majority of office workers arrive at work between 8:00 am and 9:00 am ? So...I used the 30 minutes to do some weight lifting. I was surprised I could still bench 140 after the ride in with out having had breakfast.

in NYC traffic i'm always clipped in until i come to a complete stop then i balance and unclip quickly. within a few weeks you'll be doing the same. or maybe your pedals are set too tight, you should be able to unclip with a quick turn of the foot.

I was still full from last night's steak dinner on the ride in today, and a little hung over. I'm tired. Two more days and then a biz trip to MTL on the weekend.

Title for yesterday's commute: spittle from an attractive woman is not attractive.

On the way home yesterday, I pulled onto the cherry creek trail and was passed by a very very VERY attractive female roadie. She was riding slightly slower than my optimum speed but I did not want to pass. For one, passing someone going slightly slower than you requires a lot of work. I usually feel the need to maintain an even faster speed to avoid feeling like an a$$ if the other person needs to pass me. The second item was the view.
We are both pedaling along while I was riding a wee bit back. What does she do? She spits a big loogy (sp?) off to her right. While the main part of her spit went off to the right, a small part impacted my face. I yelled thank you in an annoyed voice and stewed for a minute or two. The end result was me deciding to haul arse to get away from the spit queen.

This am was 50F with a small wind (10mph?) and a moderate to light rain. I layered oddly and it worked out great. Was a little soaked by the time I arrived at work but had a blast. I love wet dirty commutes.

Maybe you could return the favour by putting a little "spittle" of your own on her face

Tuesday morning was nearly perfect weather, around 70°F, uncovered arms and legs. Yo-yoed in and out of a heavy rainstorm Tuesday afternoon. My new bag kept everything dry, even full of groceries. Took the bus Wednesday morning to rest up then the weather was gorgeous on the ride home. This morning was shock as there was no transition from the lower 70's to the upper 40's. Why do I seem to forget what I'm comfortable in in certain conditions every summer only to have to relearn again the next winter? Debating taking Friday off so I can put in some long miles over the weekend.

49F & pouring rain at 5 this morning. Wet, grimmy & grinning ear to ear by the time I got to work...probably would have stayed a bit dryer if I at least pretended to try to avoid some of the puddles...then again, it just doesn't get any better than this!

Looks like the city decided to strip part of Lexington Ave. last night cuz this morning, the blacktop was gone, all stripped and rutty. It was great! Normally, the road looks like chewed up crap w/ patches and potholes everywhere so the stripped and rutted version is actually smoother! I guess in another month or so, they'll have repaved it and it should be smoother which will be nice. Ride to work was filled w/ the usual nonsense of blocked off streets to UN dignitaries and their police motorcades could zip back and forth across the city.

What section of Lexington is messed up? just want to know as I'm staying at the Radisson this weekend.

Rained last night but it was only overcast this morning. Threatening rain. Rode the yellow-cushie beater in so it was slow going - the springs on the seat are really too soft but they're fun. Didn't see as many riders on the bike paths. Nice and cool (50's?) going in though so no sweat (literally) to work. Wished I'd gotten coffee on the way though just so I could try my new coffee mug holder in my basket. Sun was just breaking through when I got in. Love living in Boulder.

Just gorgeous this morning. As I was riding in, I was daydreaming about taking a long lunchtime ride and then I remembered that the boss is taking us out to lunch today. D'oh! (I know most regular folks would think I'm an ingrate, but I'd much rather ride my bike get a free lunch.)

Nice fall day. Really fall, 'cause the ground hadn't dried from yesterday's all day all night drizzle. The last thing that I'm waiting for to truly indicate summer is over is to see campsites under the bike trail overpasses.

No ill effects to the ride from yesterday's spill, but my left knee doesn't like how I apparently pivot it when getting off the bike.
