I think it would be a blast to have my bike in NY and rip out about 20 or 30 miles, escpecially through central park. But alas, its not meant to be....not this time anyway.

You guys are going to be so jealous! 65 degrees, sunny, with a light breeze. Working 2nd shift I leave the house at 1:30 in the afternoon. Living on the edge of town I head out to the long, lonely country roads. Since this is amishland, the folks you see tend to smile and wave with all their fingers. On my 15 mile ride to work, I may get passed by a dozen or so motor vehicles. Felt pretty good today so I worked up those few small hills we have here in northern Indiana. Pulling into the railroad yard down the private 2 mile drive is a great way to cool down. I ride right into the garage area and to my workbench where I park my trusty steed. Tonights ride home at 11:00 will be even better. Even less traffic and all the crickets sing that I am a cycling god (that's what I hear anyway) all the way home. Night riding is a HOOT!! You guys who work hard, and have to put up with all the traffic, my hat's off to ya. I GOT MADE!!!

YAY!
I have been off bikes and exercise for the most part for around 3 years now(re aggrivated some back problems at bmx practice..). I bought a felt 90 56cm 2005 10 days ago and after todays commute have almost 160 miles.
My commutes are a bit over 15 miles each way. Today was my 4th day. There was a thick wet fog wet roads and light traffic, air was clean and fresh off of the Humboldt Bay. After my first mile i am merging onto 101 and i see a woman roadie go by while i wait for a chance to get across the Deadly indianola cutoff. I get across and shes maybe 1/4+ mile ahead of me. I packed my messenger bag a little lighter today(no microbiology book of lead) and am fresh(in my first few miles) so i think i can catch her, i get into the drops and to my surprise am pulling about 22-24mph.. i havnt been riding that unless have downhill or tailwind so i try to calm down and keep it above 18. I halve the distance, get on the horns and relax. Make the catch .. watch traffic.. room to pass...click 2 gears stand for a few spins.. bye bye. fun stuff.. i cant wait to get back into better shape. and, maybe a softer seat lol. no back pain amazingly... butt is ouch

I had bunnyopping on the brain today which was good since I had to do some bunnyhopping on the way home. Had to hop on the sidewalk when a cager was reversing into a parking spot and blocking the way around on the left. Slowed, swung right and hopped on the sidewalk. Bunnyhopped some potholes I coulda swerved around, then another sidewalk and I was home.

Nice ride in. Waved at a guy in a tractor trailer who passed me safely and very carefully with his entire rig, watching me in his mirror, no rushing in or cutting me off. I saw him stopped at the grocery store and waved again. Made me smile. Ride home was nice, but heard a creak, now I've got to go for a ride tomorrow to investigate it

i've got a cold coming on and i think it's set off a flare; i know this when i get outside on the bike and can feel heat coming up off my wrists all the way. tired, but it wasn't raining and the ride in was better than i'd been expecting. someone at work now has a pretty new-looking coda elite, which got me foolishly excited for some foolish reason. came home a bit early, and it was okay but i don't want to talk about the snot factor. i could sleep for a week.
just hope it doesn't rain again until sometime on saturday.

Thanks for the encuragement.
I am about 15Lb over weight now
. I really like to get ride of it. Regularly playing ping-pong did not work. Runing on machine is too hard and boring. My co-worker right next to me suggested me biking as he has been doing. He is ridiculously fit. Also I like nature. I like outdoor. My trip is 12.5 miles that includes 70% creek trail, 10% local drive way and 20% regular road and it takes me 1 hr. It is perfect. There are so many reasons for me to bike. I just can not not to bike.

Saw three of these this week! After tonight's rainbow, got caught in a heavy downpour. It was worth it.
vrkelley is that rainbow picture the one you saw or just one you downloaded as an example? Not that I believe the rainbows you saw were any less impressive but that's quite the photo of one.
My ride today had no rainbows but was just gorgeous with perfect temperatures and clear skies and very few folks on th bike path. Rode home with a stop at the grocery store on the way home and loaded my milkcrate up with groceries and couldn't be happier with the ride. I doubt many people who drive to work on a day like this think endlessly about how wonderful their drive in and out of work was.

Wow vrkelley, that has to be amazing to see on your commute. I was driving up I-5 in California last year and snapped this picture. I couldn't get the whole rainbow in the shot, but you could see the whole thing out of the window.

Yesterday's ride home sucks. I got my self stuck out in no man's land in a grid locked intersection by being stupid. Was freaked out over that and failed to take the lane when I needed to and ended up squished off on to the shoulder waiting for a break in the traffic. rinse. repeat. rinse. repeat. Arrive home safe and be happy about it.
Did get a smile near the end when I saw the motorcyclist with the rainbow colored mohawk on the helmet.

had a horrible ride home from work today head wind all the way made the ride so so hard as usual the ride to work was good
yesterday evening was i think my best time ever. even with the headwind...
the final shipment of parts for my NEW bike were waiting when i got there (along with my SO and plans for a tasty dinner), so i hauled @s$ so that i could get her built and adjusted and tested to ride this morning. i did the majority of the building (under the watchful eye of my bike guru SO) and he did all of the adjusting, which i have no patience for... took her around the block a couple times and went to bed greasy and happy.
this morning on the way to work was effortless and FAST.
what a difference a BRAND NEW BIKE makes!!!!! my cyclometer died a while back, so i have no evidence for this, but i swear i am 10x as fast
.
i never knew it could be like this.
pix when i get them...
sooooo happy.

Nice ride this morning. Comfortable around 50F. Long sleeve jersey & shorts. Sunny, blue sky, not much wind. Lots of squirrels running around with acorns. I heard some ducks, and saw a big white bird where the Winooski River empties into Lake Champlain.
The leaves are beginning to change at lower elevations. Might be time to bring a camera.

I forgot I was supposed to pick up my youngest at school yesterday so I rode hard and fast home quickly switched to the gas burner and picked her up still in my riding gear.

No bike today....Have a cold coming on, and with the plane ride tomorrow, I think a rest day might be best. Last time I was on a commercial jet, I ended up with a nasty sinus infection, and I was healthy going into the flight. Should be load of fun going in with an already weakend immune system..not!

50 degrees and a strong headwind (obviously). I didnt have to wear them, but I finally through on the unlined windbreaker pants. It made things a tad bit easier for me...good to know what works before the real cold weather comes on
I get my new skull cap today as well (course, it'll probably warm up next week to the point where I don't need it.....)

Wow, that was an unpleasant ride in this morning!
When I left, it was just slightly misting. But as soon as I turned onto Lincoln Avenue, I was blasted with a fierce wind that didn't let up for the entire 7 mile ride. Worse, when I was about 3 miles away from work, it started to rain like it meant it. And then, once I reached the Loop, it REALLY started to come down - stinging rain with gusty winds. Eww!
But I'm here at work now. I'm just not sure how I'm going to make sure my riding clothes get dry enough for my ride home. My workplace is kind of stuffy, and I don't think they'd take too kindly to me draping my dripping wet dryfit over my cube wall

No bike commuting today. My job has me so burned out, physically and emotionally, that I'm seriously considering quiting. Sadly it's affecting my general outlook and my desire to ride. I may not even do my Sat or Sun ride.
I've been looking around but at 61 years of age (nearly 62) there aren't a lot of jobs available.
Today when I see other bike commuters I know I'll be kicking myself. Somehow I've gotta get out of this mood.
Here's to all of you.

Straight into 33km/hr gusts of wind this morning the whole way. It took me 33% longer than usual, but I got to practice patience, and my legs will thank me.
