haven't posted in about a week. but it's been a good full week of commuting. love having the bike ride to look forward to when I'm on the hectic schedule.

it's been getting warmer every day of the week. a little windy tonight but sweet ride. The snow is almost completely gone just an occasional little pile here and there.

Cold. My toes are still numb.

RonH 03-30-07 05:19 AM

It's going to feel like early spring today. Morning temps in the low 50s (11C). Brrrrr. ;) The morning low for the past few weeks has been in the high 50s to low 60s. The high is only supposed to reach ~63F (17C) -- no sun today. Hope I don't freeze. :p

maoglone 03-30-07 05:45 AM

Today was smooth--it's my second week of commuting (almost) exclusively. I'm starting to see other cyclists more often, and people are starting to greet me here and there. I'm getting used to being on the streets, and my route is starting to become more solid, which I like.

The weather was a bit chilly, just under 50, and now the sun's beginning to pop up over the other skyscrapers, not a cloud in the sky. This afternoon's going to be awesome.

Mr_H 03-30-07 06:42 AM

A real pick me up. The wind was calm, it was about 30 some degrees, and light traffic (except the one JAM who got so close to me I could have hit his mirror by moving my hand one inch).
Along the MUP I take I had a group of 4 deer run alongside of me for a while before dashing into a field. Then at work I had the chance to watch a couple hot air ballons going through the sky over the university.

Never woulda seen either of those if I were in a car :D

Fun stuff, huh?

Dude, you're my hero! I even read this story to my wife this morning.

I'm SO tired of drivers thinking they can just push a cyclist around w/o consequences.

DataJunkie 03-30-07 07:46 AM

My god Bill! That would have been a sight to see.

No commute. 7 inches of snow yesterday and the bus I was riding in was rear ended by a SUV. No harm but I am a tad paranoid due to my crashes. That and the weather person said a strong possibility of ice this morning. However, I have yet to see any ice. Oh well. I'm already at work.

Two Buck Chuck 03-30-07 08:17 AM

Had my fastest commuter ever yesterday, with an average speed of 15mph. I must be getting in shape, or it could have been the tailwind. The cherry blossoms are now in bloom, making for a beautiful ride in.

CliftonGK1 03-30-07 08:47 AM

Last night's ride home was awesome. The weather was great, no wind, and I got a sweet draft behind a 15' box truck for about a mile. Nothing like a 28mph zip through the center of town and barely having to pedal for it! :D

jmeier 03-30-07 09:35 AM

I wish there was a video of dukearcher breaking the car windows with their own bottle, I have had people throw their **** at me as well, I just never catch up to them afterwards...

last night I had a dream about beating the s### out of a motorist who cut me off, maby I have too much anger bottled up inside ;) or I just really want to be like bmclaughlin807...

mtnwalker 03-30-07 09:46 AM

The commute last night was great. 69F, no wind, but lots of traffic but tame. I did delay a van for 5 seconds because I was right in between the right lane and the turn lane so I had to ride behind the cars in front of me. As the van passed me the passenger started coughing out loud(to complain?) as they slow to pass me and then sped away. Well, "cough, cough, cough!" to you too buddy. Weird people.

badfishgood 03-30-07 10:00 AM

Nice but not perfect. Sunny, no wind, 60 degrees but the fierce winds we had a couple days ago piled sand along the strand. I had to dismount at one point! Other than that it was smoooooth.

:D I shoved my way through it. Actually it wasn't blowing off the lake as badly as it was at the airport, so I got lucky.

I got to the office building this morning (high 20sF, nice ride) and there was a male mallard (duck) sitting at the top of the steps I walk down with the bike, and a female was off under a tree in some mulch. I didn't even notice the female until she started quacking. This couple has been hanging out around our building for about 4 years now. People bring them water and food. You'd think Lake Champlain (~1/4 mile west) would be more tempting than the environs of an office building, but who knows what goes through ducks' brains.

I got into the granny gear on the Trek and very slowly rode toward the male. He was quacking and keeping an eye on me. Eventually he stood up and walked away when I got near the stairs, but I took care not to scare him. :o

I chatted with one of probably the very few bicycle messengers in Alexandria on my way in today... I've noticed him around because he rides a ss langster with HED tri-spoke... he told me today that his disc rear wheel broke, so had to send it back to the store... We did a very relaxed pace on the sidewalk, it was an interesting alternative to my hacking it down the right lane every morning. Refreshing, actually. Birds chirping, a brisk 45 degrees (F), trees and flowers in bloom. This is one of the best times to sit back and enjoy the ride in my book!

Beautiful weather here lately, although in the afternoons it has been pretty warm. Yesterday I took a few pictures going to work and on the way home.

Seriously. How does it NOT occur to some lazy, jacka** driver that the crazy cyclist riding his bike in a snow storm just MIGHT be in a hell of a lot better physical shape than himself**********??

No, no karate... just good endurance and more padding (I was wearing 3 layers of clothes! I mean, c'mon, it was freakin' snowing out!)

:roflmao:

I also had better balance than him, and moved faster. He was outclassed pretty much all the way around.

Oh... and I left out the part where I threw my bike at him as he's charging me! A 42 lb tank being hurled at your face will slow anybody down a little. *smirks*

Great pix- thanks. That bike is nice. Great seatbag. Nice roads.

My ride was great on the way in today- tailwind. Actually got honked twice on the way in- kind of rare that that happens to me. Strange because I was making some good speed on a road that doesn't allow cars to go much more than 30 mph. ( I was doing 26 mph at the time). They received the major "WTF?" look from me.

o-dog 04-01-07 08:23 PM

the Friday before last I rode in the first 0.3 miles with my friend who was riding his skateboard to work. other than that it was an uneventful commute.

this past week's commutes were all good, except for Tuesday's, which wasn't. after the derailleur on the loaner MTB failed in a spectacular fashion on Monday, I took it back to the shop and they lent me their other loaner bike, a spectacularly heavy Giant city hybrid with grip shifters and a chain guard. pretty good ride and a definitely faster than the MTB... 700x40 semi-slicks vs. 26x1.95 knobbies will do that, plus the bike was actually my size and had a more aggressive geometry (not that weird handlebars-over-the-seat comfort bike geometry found on a lot of city hybrids). still noticeably harder to push along though.

this week it's been kind of transition weather... chilly in the morning and warm in the afternoon. definitely nice weather but it does mean I have to pack two sets of clothes. all commutes were fun and uneventful, although slightly slower and more laborious. most have been from my parents' house since I've been house sitting.

this past Friday I got my Coda Sport back... the new rear wheel was finally ready. it's good to be back on the Coda Sport again... even with the slightly chunkier tires it still feels like a lightning bolt out of Valhalla compared to the bikes I've been riding around the last two weeks. I actually felt motivated to get some extra miles in for the first time in a while. the weather was in the 70's in the afternoon. awesome commute back!

Wulfheir 04-02-07 06:44 AM

1-2" of really crusty snow, -17C(1F) windchill. I was riding straight into the wind.

Mr_H 04-02-07 06:45 AM

Wiiinnnndddyyyyyyy.....

Otherwise, nice :)

vtjim 04-02-07 07:15 AM

Pretty nice this morning. I was dreading it last night because it was raining, but it was mostly dry for my ride. High 30sF, with a light headwind. Mr. and Mrs. Duck were sleeping under a tree behind my office building when I arrived. Their heads were buried in the feathers on their backs. Cute.

jyossarian 04-02-07 07:21 AM

Ride in was slow and easy. Didn't feel fully awake so I took it easy. Bumped into Yoshi (from BF) as I got to work. Now I'm gonna read bmcg's encounter w/a JAM.

edit: Why's my star blue? I'm a mod now?

genel 04-02-07 07:38 AM

Springbreak's over and the traffic is back. Got cut off by a right turner, then a few miles later, a left turner turns right in front of me. First time I felt the rear tire come all the way off the pavement.

Otherwise a nice ride with a brisk tail wind.

pinkrobe 04-02-07 07:39 AM

I didn't go to work on Friday, since I was feeling pretty horrible. Unfortunately, I actually got worse over the weekend, and now I'm in full Dayquil-zombie mode. I hate being a Dayquil-zombie. :(
