How was the commute today?
really nice ride in this morning. Only problem encountered was my cycle computer went out. I know I'm fast, but I did not hit 66 mph going up a hill
Now the thing shows 16 miles on a ride that is 8.1 miles. Oh well, I guess I can take the old cateye computer off the wally world MTB when I get home tonight.

I hustled home after work as my evening ride partner preferred not to ride on the wet pavement. Rode home in a hurry to get my cleats fitted into my shoes, woo. Easy enough ride home, took Queen St. W to Sorauren for a more direct route.
Rode last night with clipless for the first time so I wasn't totally new at it for the commute this morning - ride into work was nice, still about the same speed but marked improvement on speed recovery, it's going to take a bit of getting used to and I'm still fumbling my clip-in a bit, but it'll come with practice I'm sure (within 5-10 minutes last night I had already forgotten and almost fell down when having to quickly stop at the Dundas/College/Lansdowne triangle of fun
)Totally weird feeling being connected to the bike like that, I actually had the feeling/desire to push back on my pedals when wanting to slow down - I've never ridden fixie (well, not since my old childhood bike 23+ years ago
) - does this mean I should go fixed?

Nice ride in this morning -- about 16C -- beautiful weather. I love riding and not sweating like crazy. A bit of a headwind when riding West, but nothing too extreme.

Ugh. Humid, no breeze, a few drops of rain here and there and heat and exhaust emanating off cars that looked like they'd been randomly scattered and left behind by a giant child. Was faster than yesterday, but I squeezed through at least two tight spots at intersections where the crossing traffic hadn't cleared the intersection and the cars in my direction were squeezing around them.
Last night I left a little later than usual and found my bike re-positioned so the rear wheel now stuck out in the street. The jackass that's locking up and hogging the spot probably did it. I may do the same to his bike when I leave today.
edit: Saw a commuter on a tall bike. Made me wonder what he did when he had to stop for traffic. Lean against a bus or truck?

Beautiful ride in this morning. Had some junk to carry so I utilized my newspaper bag (the boss got a couple of them from the Springfield State Journal Register a few years ago and I have glommed onto them). We took a slightly different route but it was the same distance and not any quicker.
Last night the older son and myself rode to and from the scout Troop meeting. Yep, a youngster in a scout uni on a BMX and an old fat dude on an ancient fixie. Understandably, the SWAT team was notified and put on red alert.

Was going to drive today, but ended up on my bike since the chance of rain is mostly this morning. Saw a few commuters this morning and got some waves. My cyclocomputer went nuts about halfway in, all the sudden I was going 41mph, then 77, then 21, then 54, etc. Did that the rest of the way in, I hope it works better on the way home, but it's not really that big a deal. After I get home I am flying up to New England for a long weekend

My "commute" today was to the doctor's office for a blood draw (cholesterol check) and back. I've decided to work from home.
This is a new doctor for me; for my first visit to him I rode there last week and it poured on me. Sure enough, I pull the bike out of the garage this morning and it starts to rain. I may need to switch doctors...

Nice ride in today, a bit on the cool side (I had to stop and put my shell jacket on). My knees feel weirdly stiff so I think it was colder than I realized!
I suddenly noticed that I'm no longer out of breath when I arrive at work, and that I've stopped making any stops except when required by intersections. Not sure when that happened, but yay!
On the way home yesterday I think it was Turn Signals Optional Day. That was fun

Strong tailwind on the river path this morning, the kind I like.

Nice ride in for me, trailering both kids in their respective (opposite) directions. After dropping Thing 2, pretty much sprinted the whole way trying to catch my wife, but there was no chance. If I'd had the head start I usually do, probably would have, but not w/ her on the road same time as me before I did the kid dropping.

First commute this week: I was traveling Monday and carpooled yesterday with Mrs. Caloso and the Wonder Twins. It was the first time on the bike since Saturday morning, which is my longest stretch off the bike since our spring vacation.
Got 26 miles in by heading down the Sacramento River Road into the wind before turning around to cruise with the tailwind. Very nice.

The commute was cr4p. Someone stole my b17 and hard-to-find 29.something mm 80s Peugeot seatpost. Neither are worth anything but had to pony up £31 to cab the thing home. I don't think riding 8 miles fixed gear with no seat is good for the posterior.

Had a fairly crappy headwind on the way home, good ride though - no drama, very short and sweet other than nearly falling down due to an unclip panic again
Introducing a new instinct/habit is pretty tough when it's so fundamental as taking a foot off the pedal

No commute today. My daughter's college roomate's (for next semester) showed up with a UHaul to take some of my daughter's furniture to the new apartment.
I did strip down a nice Schwinn Traveler frame (no braze-ons) and offered it up to the craigslist community. The small profit financed some cute CHAPAK panniers and trunk Nashbar priced at $30 shipped.

Had a flat in my 'self-sealing' rear tire... At least the goo oozing out made it easy to find the leak, however I always have a spare and a patch kit on me... The spare (brand new - straight from it's box) wouldn't take air. Either I punctured it putting it on, or it was defective to start with. So, I pull everything apart again and patched the first one since I knew exactly where the leak was on it. It held up the rest of the way to work and back with only one extra inflation on the way back... Basically 40km total.
The past week has reinforced my efforts to always pack a first aid kit, tire tools, a pump and patches. Today the multiple flats, on the weekend my girlfriend had a pretty solid wipe out - needed some basic first aid. I'm very glad I always have these things.

Another nice ride this morning. I hope the weather keeps holding up.
Afternoon ride was nice. Decided to do some climbing and took a longer route home up Flying W since I needed to stop at the pharmacy on the way home (Walgreens). Hit 40mph on the way down, that's a first for me.
I started riding at the end of last summer and my goal was to ride at least 250 miles before the end of the year; 1200 miles later I feel like I'm just starting to hit a sweet spot; on the last leg of my commute today from the pharmacy I decided to go a little faster and I was able to maintain about 20-22mph for a couple of miles and I wasn't even maxing out. I'm feeling good on the sadle. I might start getting into some speed and climb training but it's not a priority; all I want to do is ride and have fun.

Pretty good ride today, aside from a lady backing out not looking and almost hitting me. Causing me to swerve into oncoming traffic and then back again. That really gets the blood flowing.
Amazing what you do without thinking about it sometimes.

Good ride today. The morning was nice and cool which made for an easy going, minimum sweat ride. The evening ride home was pretty warm but still nice. I had some good Karma returned to me by two drivers extending a little courtesy by waiting a few seconds longer until I passed by before making their turns.

Restarted commuting once again last week after a few weeks of driving in and replacing the bike commute with daily group laps in the park and almost forgot how great it feels; although it's taken a bit of a toll on my after-work rides. Buying panniers has also added a whole new aspect to riding the hybrid. Another great, though rather eventless, commute today.
Yesterday, on the other hand, I was going into Manhattan to go shopping and have lunch with a friend and riding down Clinton St. towards the bridge when a Taxi cab decided to pull half-way into the bike lane a few cars before the light. As I slowly squeezed through, the driver noticed me and yelled out a loud "ARRRGGGHHHH!!!". I pulled over and asked "What?".
"Why can't you take the damn train?", the guy yells.
"Why don't you?"
"This is a business!"
"So you want me to pay 2 bucks and suffer when I can be doing this for free?"
After about 30 seconds of going back and fourth, though calm and courteous, the guy says "Well, I guess it's better then being in the car." I really felt bad for the dude; traffic sucks on that street mid-day. Still, you don't usually see frustration displayed in such raw and vulnerable manner as opposed to the usual aggression. The more I ride, the more I find myself trying to avoid having to drive.

Nice ride in today... I've been mixing up my routes, and decided to try following a guy on a Kronan for a while. He took a nice route through a park, which I think I'll do more often. Was buzzed by a businessman in a BMW 5-series, who then slowed down to turn right. I passed him on the left and let my fingers slide in a passive-aggressive way on the hood of his car. Probably not a smart thing to do, but it felt good

Yeah yeah yeah...I drove in today.
I'm still pretty beat from yesterday.
Note to all fellow bike commuters...if you have to go 36 miles roundtrip, DON'T do it on 4 hours of sleep. I, like a total fool, did that yesterday. Oh yeah...don't forget to hydrate yourself in the heat either.
That is all.

2.5 mile hike to the bus this morning. No bike ride. Wife picking me up after work. Going out for dinner. 10th anniversary.
Gotta get flowers.
Yesterday I was playing cat & mouse with a guy who came onto the MUP behind me. He was all decked out in MTB gear, including leg armor. I dropped him, then let him get a little closer, then pulled away. Did this a few times. Felt silly but it was a fast ride into a headwind.
