OCD gets the best of me
I must have just under a dozen various incarnations of rain and windbreaker jackets from cheap to not so cheap. Always looking for that perfect item, haven't found it yet there always seems to be one thing that bugs me about each of my jacket. SOOOO in keeping with my OCD I ordered a W/B jacket from JG clothing. I have one of their windbreakers and its a good one very light and works great (its a bit too large) so I ordered a medium in this new jacket hoping the fit is a bit on the roomy side for layering. I shall see. Its gotten great review so I'm hoping its a good one. Price is pretty reasonable and I thought why. Report to follow when I get it.

I usually ride too hard to realistically stay dry with a WP/B jacket. I have one from Patagonia that I use, but I have conceded that to stay dry I have to slow down a lot. For me a rain jacket is more useful to stay warm and somewhat clean.

Like OP, I have a lot of stuff - jackets, layers etc. at home. Every time I have to buy gear or tools, I keep thinking - I have everything at home! But I couldn't get everything when I moved to the US (and voltage wouldn't have worked anyway), so am always scouring ebay and craigslist for stuff.

i have a price point "rain jacket/ wind breaker" that is too big for me and flaps like crazy when riding because I bought it when I was 30lbs heavier and I have a performance wind/ insulation jacket that i bought my size but I think sometimes is too warm. I am looking for a good thin light weight wind jacket and a decent rain jacket?
any recommendations?

Dealing with that kind of humidity, maybe an unlined canvas (Carhartt type) jacket with waterproofing on it would be best?

Waterproof rainwear is very inexpensive. A plastic garbage is a good example. BREATHABLE rainwear gets progressively more expensive as it gets more effective. The best stuff will set you back $400 to $600 and although it'll actually work - there's still your hands and feet to worry about if its a bit cold.
Sometimes I think a well placed motel room is the best solution.
