Tell you what, bunkie -- sometimes, there's nothing more f'n aggravating than well-meaning people. Especially when they don't have all the information you've related, and sincerely believe that you are just "them in other clothes", or that THEY know better than you do from afar.
The ONLY caveat I'd put to you is this: is a can of bear spray cheaper or more expensive than the rounds you'll spend on these dogs? (Sorry, everybody, but as much as it's true that it's not the dog's fault <hey, they don't "BELIEVE" anything, that requires reason, they're operating on a learned pattern of behavior, that's all>, that doesn't mitigate the damage they will do) Take the route that will cost you less out-of-pocket.
You said you were calling the guy and putting him on notice; GOOD. He has no excuse from here on, and if he wants to escalate, well...self-defense. You've already got the seal of approval from the local LEA, and if some retaliatory action comes up, it's all related -- chain of events.
I'm ALSO a dog lover, but DAMN -- if an owner allows his dogs to become aggressive, and no one else can/will take any corrective action, you HAVE to look at the greater good. The dogs have moved beyond nuisance into public hazard.
Don't know your background, don't want to offend; I have some Cherokee heritage, and it "speaks" to me to ask "the Powers that Be" for forgiveness for harming one of nature's beings (or in this case, SEVEN). If this doesn't fit you, I'll do it for you.

I hope this works out well for you and for the dogs. Hopefully the owner will start taking better care of the dogs and/or the pepper spray will work. I'd personally try the pepper spray he bought, and if that doesn't work, the next time I'd try the bear spray. Maybe if his dogs come back with the spray in his eyes, he'll think about chaining the dogs up. But while I hate to say it, at some point it doesn't stop, you need to do what you need to do.
Another idea is to get some firecrackers although I'm not sure how you'd light them while riding. I through a pack of them at a dog along the railroad tracks I used to walk to high school on when I was younger. After doing that twice, the dog never bothered me again. Of course, the dogs you are talking about seem much worse than mine was, and there are many more of them.

This is all nonsense! Obviously shooting the dogs will cause problems with the owner. You have to pass the owners house practically every day. Revenge will take place in some form or another, because the opportunity will always be there, as long as you keep passing this guys house. You could quite easily be sniped with absolutely no witnesses at all. Some people feel as though their dogs are really their family members, you know.
Therefore, don't shoot the dogs! However, there are more ways to skin a cat. Just feed 'em vitamin enriched hamburger!
Every 3 weeks you can just do the math:
7-2=5
5-3=2...Eventually you'll cycle in peace.

Kinda scary? I'm 28 years old, I work for the city, I'm a firefighter, I'm not on medication because im crazy, I'm raising two beautiful twin baby girls with my wife, I have a concealed weapons permit with the state, so they obviously think I'm pretty stable to carry a weapon on me 24/7 if I wanted to. I feel like I'm pretty stable in the head and protecting myself is not scary. I to am a animal lover and don't believe in hurting animals. But when your being run down by seven dogs that are very viscous, and prolly never had shots and your fighting with the owner like I am. Yea you'll do what you have to do. Read the whole thread.

I talked to the lady who lives across the street from the guy. Her son stands by the road to get the school bus. She told me that on 4 different occasions her son had to run back to the house from the road because of the dogs. Needles to say when her husband gets back from his turn around job in a couple more weeks from South America he's gonna take care of the problem. I told her what I've been going through and she said hold tight if you can, my husband will handle it.

Some of you may remember I talked about a really bad dog problem that I'm having. There is a house that I pass when I'm on my way to work that has 7 very aggressive dogs. They come after me all the time. Yesterday on my way to work they all came after me and I almost got creamed by a car trying to get away from them. This is in a rural area, not in the city. So keep that in mind. I made contact with the police chief about the situation (this is not in the police dept's jurisdiction) because the chief knows the owner really well. I asked the chief to make contact with him and see about resolving the situation. She did and the guy said there not his dogs. But all the dogs have collars on them and there at his house everyday. I was trying to do the rite thing and take care of it without problems. Well yesterday afternoon broke the ice. I've had enough. I have a concealed weapons permit and it has gotten to that point. I made contact with a friend of mine who works at the sheriffs office and he was telling me that in our parish, animals are not to roam free. And if the dogs come out to the road and attack me that I have the rite to protect myself by opening fire. And that my friends is what's gonna happen. I tried to do this the rite way but I don't know what else to do. Legally the guy can't come after me for doing this because he didnt restrain his animals and I was trying to protect myself. Would y'all take it this far?

Well I passed this morning without incident. Normally I see them in the pasture if there not in from of the house but I didn't see them at all. I'm hoping he did something to resolve the problem. But I'm sure I'm not that lucky.

The other day when the chief called me to tell me that he dropped of the spray I told her that I was going to plan (B) black ops (deadly force), I think she may have called him and told him that. Then he realized oh **** he must be pissed (which I am) and is gonna get serious about this.

I read the whole thread.
Does someone you know have a good pellet gun that you can borrow?
It's non-lethal and it seems to me that you could lay down a lot more rounds in a much shorter span.

Well, I got my feelings hurt this morning. I thought he got rid of the dogs. They didn't chase me this morning, when I rounded the curve and got ready to start climbing the hill i pulled out the pepper spray to get ready. I made it to the top of the hill and I was homeward bound with no dogs. I noticed the guy in his drive way loading the back of his truck, he said something out loud but I didn't understand him. So, I turned around and went talk to him. He says to me, no dogs chasing you this morning huh? I kinda laughed and said , nope not today. He says, they must be out hunting this morning , to myself I'm like great, I thought he had gotten rid of them. He says, yea there a bunch of strays that just showed up and been hanging around, there not our dogs but there kinda our dogs, but we've been feeding them. To myself I think, yea there your dogs. He says, did you get the spray I got for you? I said yep I have it rite here, then he says, we'll just spray them when you can. Great, so that means I have to continue to run from these dogs and try to spray them.
What am I suppose to do when the spray runs out?
im not buying anything out of pocket. I shouldn't have to.
I will use the spray but when it runs out I will turn to plan B.
I didn't say anything to him about plan B, I just said yep, I'll use the spray and smiled and rolled on.
So he obviously doesn't care what the dogs do.

I have a pellet gun. There's no way I could use that though. It's just as long as my bolt action .270 rifle.

So they really are strays but he's feeding them, hence they stay around his house.
Have you tried contacting any shelters in the area? They would be much better equipped to capture the dogs and judge if they're fit to be in homes or not.

It's all good folks. I've come up with a plan C.
It involves my father in-laws hog trap and some dog food. Across from his house is the neighbors house, the house where the little boy is, the one that stands by the road for the bus. When you pass the guys house and the little boys house, there is a good size patch of woods. I'm gonna set the trap in there with dog food. Then haul them somewhere really far far far away. Problem solved.
The trap has wheels on it and is able to be pulled behind a ATV. I'm gonna go set it around 10pm tonight and start operation CONFISCATE DOG!
only problem is that the trap won't hold all the dogs. But if I have to remove them two by two are three at a time that's fine to. Just as long as I can get them gone.
Sounds like a good plan are what?

Lol, we'll I guess I'll have some bacon in the refrigerator.
All jokes aside, if that does happen ill let paw in law deal with the hog. But he uses the hog traps at his hunting lease. There are no hogs around hear that I know of. Plus I've spotted the dogs going in and out that patch of woods before. So I know they go in there. Just might take a while before I get them.

Can these guys help?

Edited to add: maybe even let the animal control folks know that you intend to shoot the dogs, and that the police have okayed the shootings - that might spur them into quicker action.

Instead of hauling them far far away and dumping them into someone else's region (which we'll probably be reading about on here as someone else reports wild dogs chasing them on their bike commute), why not take them to an animal shelter where they will either be adopted out or otherwise humanely taken care of.
I kind of have my doubts of how effective the trap will be, especially after you catch the first one or two. Might want to give the people where the trap is your telephone number so they can call you if and when you catch a dog and the dog begins to howl.
Feral dogs that have formed a pack for hunting (based on what you said the property owner and dog feeder said) can be a major problem for farmers and livestock owners in the area.
Going to be interesting to see how this turns out.
