New bars and shifters

With a lot of neck and back issues I was finding it literally a pain in the neck to ride my commuter bike with drop bars and brifters. Too much reaching and the bike fits me very well. I changed to Mtn. bike bars and Shimano rapid fire shifters yesterday with ergo grips and bar ends for changing hand positions. Rode it around town for a while yesterday and am very pleased with the results. A more upright position and less neck and shoulder issues.

So, you did a Hybrid out of your road bike.. good.

Shorter and up angled stems is another approach , for people wanting to keep the drop bars..
and Other drop bar bends..

'I recently did the same but used an upside down Wald #8056 "three speed" bar. The Wald "drops", such as they are, are super comfortable.

Rapid Fire shifters blow away the Dura Ace STI that I was using. It's not called Rapid Fire for nothing.

I just got an adjustable stem for my new Cross Check and set it up at 25 degrees upward angle and it's made my fit perfect

I never was much for drop bars, I hate changing hand positions but I like how narrow they are so I did a flop and chop on my road bike to get a bull horn arrangement which I liked for a time but I found uncomfortable when I would crouch down for speed or in high winds due to my wrist angle if I wanted to keep my hands on the brifters. lately I have gone with very narrow straight bars (stash bar 2, 425mm) I have managed to cram on locking grips, brake levers and a rapid fire shifter and I like them a lot more, they are just about the same width as my shoulders and I can crouch down comfortably as low as with drops and never take my hands off the controls and when I am riding sitting up its the same. the components are also a whole lot cheaper than brifters.

Love the ride with the change. I might catch a bit more wind now but I've rarely ridden in the drops.
