under pants and yeast...rated "R"

ok....not a fun topic. topic rated "R"
I am fairly new to commuting. well 9 months now and a hundred miles a week. did not know where else to ask,

the other day I had a doc appointment for general physical, im 60 something, and one of the things I brought up was my itchy butt. Lucky for me, he is a avid bicycle person. well its a yeast infection, and he said I need riding pants...underpants.
told me what to get for med...cheap antifungal athletes foot stuff....well I have had my foot up my arse before...so I guess that's ok. anyway...itching stopped right that night....thank god.
he also gave me a list of places he uses for buying bike stuff...like underpants for that...nashbar...etc....etc.
anyway...I need to wick the moisture away

im on a budget...and amazon had some for 12 bucks.... Sweat Absorbent Volatility Quick Dry
the doc said expect to pay about 20
he said to wash them after every ride, so I guess I need to get a few....another reason price is important
any suggestions

sorry for the gross topic

I bought some Bayleaf padded cycling liner undies from Amazon for about that much. They work. For me, at least.

I use talkum powder or (unscented) baby powder for rowing in summer, and I sometimes use that on the bike as well. Not that I necessarily need it when cycling, but as a precautionary measure.

Thanks....Bike Shorts...Not under wear.

I wear these...best I have found in six years of riding.

I wear nothing under these.

Wash the area twice each day.....Keep it clean

Wash the bike shorts everyday.

Are you riding in jeans? Switching to lighter-weight pants or shorts would help in that case.

I ride 31 miles round trip to work, twice a week. I have one pair of Louis Garneau cycling shorts that I wash once a week. Might be gross to some but I haven't had any issues. I need to get 1 or 2 more pair, I know, but for now I make this work.

I haven't had a yeast infection, at least not yet. For wicking, anything other than cotton just might do.

I happen to like these briefs which are just like standard briefs but are synthetic. They are marketed as "travel" underwear because you can wash them in the sink and hang-dry them overnight. I like them so much, I just bought six more pairs. Expensive for every day underwear, but maybe they'll last longer than cotton.

If you're like me and ride a fair bit, you may not like all that padding in cycling shorts. I do ride with cycling shorts sometimes, but not often. I get the kind with the thinnest padding available.

For me, I like the padding in the bayleafs, not because of the padding per se, but because it ... er... locks things down, so my dangly bits don't roll around and get into uncomfortable situations as I pedal, which happens with even the tightest fitting of regular underwear.

Not a bad idea. Sucks when the bits get stuck in the chainrings, especially when you're going downhill..

I once wore a pair of cycling shorts whose padding was extra, extra thick. As I rode, I had a lot of itching and then pain. When I finished my ride, I took the shorts off and discovered that my scrotum had gotten pinched in a fold of the padding. The fold was there only because the padding was excessively thick. The pinch had chafed my scrotum very badly, making it painful and red. Not a likely occurrence, but ever since then, I've been sore at the manufacture. (Pun intended)

Wash bibs/shorts after every ride! No questions asked!
Mainly for hygienic reasons, but if you ride with others, they will appreciate it.
Most shorts/bibs/chamois are made from synthetics, these hold on the odors far easier, & once there's an odor its there for life.
Time for new ones, wash them, it cheaper in the long run.

I find the think pads with fold less comfortable then thinner/flatter chamois too.
While I never experienced pain to that extent I do get what your saying.

I don't think any type of shorts will help for the yeast. They surely help make you more comfortable though but your clothing more than likely is not the cause of it. If you get yeast, you'll get it regardless and probably will even if you don't ride. Just keep using what the doc recommended for anthlete's foot. This stuff is for everything and anything an athlete needs it applied to.

Yeast thrive in warm damp environments.
Keeping the area(s), clothing clean, & dry will help.
Talc powder helps to keep the area dry, & the material used in you shorts/bibs will help wick away moisture too.

I've always bought high/mid end bibs, & I've never had to deal with problems in the "nether region".
Not sure if there's a difference in high/mid/entry level bib/shorts/chamois, but I don't feel bad spending a bit more if it helps for comfort, or anything regarding "the jewels".

I've had shorts like the one linked to at Amazon.

No good. The legs a too short.

They creep up as you ride and end up bunched in a wad right along where a pair of briefs would lie.

Get a pair of road bike shorts like those from Nashbar that have longer legs with enough stretch area to stay in place.

Should not be wearing cotton, at all. Try mt bike shorts with tights on underneath for cooler weather. Or lycra with wind pants over them. You can get polypro underwear and just put some running shorts/ pants over them. Keep it dry and use wicking materials.

For antifungal stuff, I find the spray-alcohol or spray-powder stuff works best. The lotion-creme stuff makes it worse.
