Woke up to 15f/-9c and about 3" of snow and still falling. Ended up with 4.5 inches. The afternoon, the main roads were good, the side streets were hardpack that will freeze overnite and with the upcoming arctic air headed our way. They're calling for -5f/-20c Thursday morning.

Interesting, I can get to the Forums here on my IPad but my work computer no longer loads the pages.
Winter arrived here in DC. Tuesday we had around four inches, soft dry snow early on but then it got clumpy. I took a spill on the way in due to braking too hard taking a turn...otherwise it was actually a nice ride. I took a pic when I finally arrived at the office. (Oh and I did a self-repair job on one of my Ortliebs...made me feel quite proud!)
This morning was cold -2C/28F with some really icy patches in places.

I took a nice little fall last night. Completely my own fault. I don't know where I was looking or what I was thinking about, but I got my front wheel off the road at a spot where there was about an inch or so lip of asphalt. When I tried to correct it, the tire was not coming back up and I went down on my left side into the road. Luckily a car behind me was not following too closely and was able to stop.
I got back up and off the road pretty quickly to assess myself and my bike. I have a skinned knee and elbow, bruised hip and skinned right thumb (don't know how I got my right hand over there). My new jacket got a minor tear which I hope my wife can put a patch on. My wind-stopper mittens got a couple of tears too. They are pretty old and probably need to be replaced anyway though.
The bike seemed okay. Both wheels spun freely. The left shifter/brake hood was a bit out of whack, but I was able to pull it back to straight. My handle bar tape on the left drop bar has a chunk out of it too, but still holding together. This morning I noticed my front wheel is not quite true anymore.
Anyway, it all happened so fast I don't really know what happened other that I went a little too far right. I rode the rest of the way home and rode in this morning too.
I saw a beautiful sunrise this morning. Bright orange and slowly chaning to yellow before fading out. Not terribly cold this morning, but the arctic blast is hitting here tonight.

-1f with some fresh powder on the roads, a little ice as well. Had some 42c Conti studded tires on earlier this week, but the beads don't seat properly (really bulky reinforcement at the stem, my rims are thin enough that it prevents bead seating), so they came off and the 28c Conti Top Contacts went back on. Aired them down a bit to help scrub the downhill speeds sans braking, loosened up my clipless pedals a bit for easy bail-out, put on an extra synthetic layer, and hit the road! Schools start two hours late today, so nearly no one was on the road. It was awesome, until I walked into the locker room at work and realized how cold a couple of my toes were. That wind gets brutal!!

We got the same incredible sunrise here in Raleigh. That's one of the things I like about commuting in winter as we seem to get better sunrises and sunsets this time of year. According to the forecasts, today will be one of those unusual days when my afternoon commute is colder than the morning. Temps were in the upper 20s during my morning ride but didn't feel that cold. However, the polar express is supposed to arrive here this afternoon with temps starting to plummet about the time of my commute home. The wind chill could be the kicker, with gusts expected in the 30 mph range. Sounds like fun.

Ahhh... the joys of riding in the white stuff. Although for me it hasn't been snow so much as salt. The streets have been dry the last couple of days, but eerily 'white' in color from all the salt. I think they were expecting more snow than we received a few days ago, so really overdid it. It makes a mess on the bike, but like I said... at least the streets have been dry.

Rode home yesterday and it was somewhat chilly 30F. It wasn't bad when I got out of the wind. Had to stop about half way home and put my mittens on. Gloves just weren't cutting it. I wimped out today and drove. Not sure I'll ride again this week with the colder temps and windy conditions. I miss riding already.

Air temps around -10F with 15 mph winds, the wind chill was around -35F. Thankfully the wind was mostly a crosswind and not in my face. Most local schools closed for the cold and windchill; however, I enjoyed the 10 miles to the office this morning.
Here's gear that kept me toasty this morning (sorry for the poor focus):

Very impressive! It's 5F here, with a wind chill of -17F... so I bailed today!

Also note, I've worked down to these temps over a number of years getting my bike and gear right for these extreme temps. And Minneapolis is really good at giving us a lot of days to work on our gear for these temps.

I applaud all you folks who commute in sub-zero temps. I probably could if my commute were only 5-6 miles. But for 15-16 miles each way, no way, not for me!
Ride home last night was fine, about 10 deg. warmer than it was in the morning, at 39°F. I had maybe a slight chill but it wasn't bad.
The arctic blast is upon us today, with temps steadily dropping from in the 40's yesterday afternoon to single digits by tomorrow morning. North winds at 17-20+ MPH. No thank you. Yesterday will almost certainly be my only commuting day this week, unfortunately. But hey I'm still using the same 10 gallons of gas I put in my car on 20 December, so there's that.

Temps here are mild; it was 49 when I started this morning, and 46 when I got to work. Sunny, clear skies welcomed me. As I watched the sun come up in my mirror, I thought about all of you that are dealing with the bitter cold this week; stay safe out there.

It was about forty out this morning. But it was foggy.
I think fog is the must worrisome weather to bike in, vision becomes so impaired and drivers scare me more.
I had no problems and it was a pleasant commute. I keep racking up the 2015 KOM friends though.

Toronto. Cold weather alert going down to -13C. Some school buses cancelled. Since Jan 5th, wore double-head gear: wool toque over balaclava in my helmet and Vaseline on my face. Thin sprinkling of snow on the roads. Main through street along my workplace all congested so I took my liberty filtering all the way through with a big grin on my face.

Vaseline on your face? Does that really make a difference? Isn't it sort of messy?

Yes, it makes a difference, and no, it isn't messy. Try it. It can help you, even in Tennessee.

Woke up sick on Monday, spent 4 hours outdoors Monday night, have been at home in bed since then.
Oddly enough I was actually hoping to see if I could survive the low temps. Although, that's easier to say now that it's going to be impossible.

Drencher commute monday was good.
Warm commutes yesterday were awesome.
Drove today (family stuff). I'll finally have my first swimming lesson tonight...talk about out of my comfort zone!

Cold but fun. Second day commuting on my new bike. Ran the tires at a higher PSI today so I gained a little speed, as long as I wasn't fighting a headwind. Was just under 20 on my ride home, with strong winds making it feel more like 8-12. Coldest night so far this winter. The ride to work was great weather at least.
One thing I've noticed going from mountain bike handle bars to taped road bike handle bars is that my headlight stays in place much better. It's nice.
