Bit the bullet!!nr

And had duel inguinal hernia surgery day before yesterday. Fairing pretty well today. Yesterday( the day after surgery) pain was pretty intense!! Hated to do it, but had to take some of the "oxy" the doc prescribed. I found out why he perscribed so many😜. But did not take more than I needed. Haven't had to take any today. The hernias never bothered me, just got tired of thinking about them on long hilly rides, long runs, weight lifting. Etc... doc says no lifting more than 15 lbs for at least three weeks. Pretty sure that once healed I'll be glad I had the procedure done. Have a great week everyone!!

I had inguinal hernia surgery last August. I needed the oxycodone for 2 days. After 2 weeks I was hot get back on the bike but my surgeon said 6 weeks - and my wife was there when he told me - so there was no way to get out sooner.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Just keep this thought in mind. When you're ready to get out on the bike warm weather will be back.

So the takeaway here for anyone considering this (or any) surgery is to keep the wife out of the consulting room.

No weight lifting would be easy for me.

Hang in there, take it easy while you can/have to.

Yeah my doc says no lifting more than 15 lbs for six weeks. Follow up visit is April 4th. I haven't had any pain since the Saturday. A friend of ours is a retired shock trauma nurse. She said the pain is caused by the gas they use to inflate the area during repair and that I needed to get rid of the excess. She told me to lay on my left side with knees curled towards my chest. Did this for about two hours, pain all gone!!! Just the expected tightness around the incisions. I honestly feel like I could go for a run, but know better. Will be very careful and follow docs orders.

Bikes: Still have a few left!

I had the same, dual, hernia surgery about 20 yrs ago to fix a failed repair from back in the 60's. Pain was intense the 1st day but much better after that.

I asked my surgeon how soon I could resume cycling? His answer: "Soon as you can stand the pain, but no lifting", so I began to ride a bit(couple of miles) 3 days after surgery. It was on a step thru, ladies Schwinn World Sport, and only on a nearby bike path. There was very little pain and I made a rapid recovery.

I stuck to the Schwinn and didn't swing a leg over my road bike or attempt any hills for about 2 months. Don

Glad the surgery went well and best to you with your recovery. Following doctor's orders is usually a good idea.

Listen to the doctor about lifting and activities please. I speak from much experience with that procedure, and in having the repairs fail. Get some good cycling related books and watch the od race vids on You Tube

Best wishes on a less painful and complete recovery, just take care and use caution. Your bike and the roads will still be here.

What a coincidence, I had my umbilical hernia surgery done on last Friday the 17th. I was trying to time it between snow shoveling and lawn mowing. Hope we both get healed up and back on our bikes ASAP, and stay away from them as long as we need to.

Thanks all,
Feeling much better this week, been walking like crazy. Did a 4.5 mile walk yesterday. Doc did say to walk as much as I wanted. Yesterday There was a 50k trail race that I was hoping to run this year. It will have to wait 😟 Or I'll find another around the end of May or June. Taking it easy as i don't want to mess these up. My follow up appointment is 4 April. That will be the three week mark, I talked to a cyclist at work that had the same procedure done. At weeks he was back to regular workout routine. He said he doc told him 2 weeks and then to start easing back into things. He waited 4 weeks just to be sure. Have a great week!!
