Bikes: are fun! :-)
I totally agree. I like challenges too, but to me the point is to find joy in the process of preparation and training. In today's world, it is so easy to become fixated on outcomes only, and that is often robbing people of the consistent "joy" we all need to experience to be happy.
My older brother started riding a few years ago. He rides nearly every day. But, he goes out and hammers as fast as he can for an hour so he can get it over with and move on to something else. I guess it works for him, but that is so contrary to my approach to biking. I suppose I am fortunate in that I actually enjoy the act of riding a bike!

Come to Wisconsin next September - a 60 mile loop over mid-Wisconsin rolling hills, 4000 feet of climbing.
Probably not a challenge for you, but ... I think the distance will be fine for me by that time, but I will need to work on the climbing.

I’ve thought about driving up and doing Dairyland Dare (I think that’s the name) one day but we’ll see.....Riding around where I live was great prep for my XC trip as the average climbing per day was probably half what I normally do. But there were several days with a good bit of climbing. Oregon, Yellowstone and NY.....
