Checking out for a while...

Because I am currently dealing with some personal issues which are overwhelming, make me very sad and angry at the same time, which affect my ability to be positive and/or upbeat, I'm going to check out for a while from the 50+ forum. Things which I have worked very long and hard to improve, although I can only influence them indirectly, are actually getting worse than ever.
I'll keep riding when I can and hope to be back soon. It's just hard to take pleasure in something, when all of this "stuff" continues to deteriorate, with no end in sight. At least, no satisfactory end. Thanks for listening.

I also am dealing with a rough end of year, see https://www.bikeforums.net/foo/361922-divorce-american-style.html, my way of dealing with things is to let the initial impact hit and then try to step back and put things in perspective. Obviously with no knowledge of your problem this may or may not help but for me if I can focus on everyone is healthy, no one is homeless and kids have to sort out their own lives at some point I can get to the point where the problems don't drag me down. Keep riding as this is the one thing you can do for yourself that will make your problems go away even for a short period.
Take care and good luck

Judging by your recently diminished posts, I thought there may have been some issues. Best of luck and hurry back. The 50+ Forum won't be the same without you. Steve

Hey Gary:
Three things to say here:
1. Always remember you can only be responsible for what you do, others are responsible for what they choose. Hard as it is to accept, you can't own or solve somebody else's problems for them.
2. Though sometimes painful, life is great. Try to leave enough time to realize that.
3. Hang in there and just keep showing up, you'll be fine in the end.
You have a lot of friends here, even if we have never met fact to face, we are with you. If it will help, I'll paint a bike white for you, just let me know.

Hi Gary, i don't find it easy to talk about personal stuff but the times that i have been able to i've invariably found that it helps. From the responses here i think there would be a number of good listeners you could unburden to.
Hang in.
Hang in.

If you're not here, who's going to post complete and total non-sequiters in my thread?
Well, I'll manage and I'll just keep posting, waiting for your return.
I will not paint my bike white for you, though.
Hang tough, guy! Lean on us, we're here for you.

Not sure if this place has a (lame joke) soul, Gary, but you are in many ways the heart of our forum.........my best thoughts for you towards some resolution or, failing all else, your adjustment to your circumstances. Not to mention, we're all hoping to get you back as soon as possible. People have said some very nice things here because they care a lot for you. That, and we've all, by 50 plus, had a fair share of difficulties.........lots of empathy. No matter what, Take Care!

Just face it DG. If you can ride a white bike- you can get over a lot of things so Paint the bike black while you'r away and get back quick.

Well, there goes the neighborhood!!!
You will be missed until you get back Gary.
Along with cycling, for me music has power to improve my mood and make difficulties easier to deal with.
I just bought the Eagles new CD, and if you like the Eagles, I would suggest it as a good listen. Some of the songs have messages that help me, maybe you'll find the same!
Just avoid music that pulls you the other way. When I am depressed, I need to avoid certain music, like Pink Floyd... When "Wish You Were Here" with its dark mood is the closest they have to a happy song, I avoid it when I am feeling down.
For me it is Classical to relax, and Rock to get pumped up, and some Pop to cheer up. Your mileage may vary.

A grumpy DG? Inconceivable! Whatever may be going on, extensive application of things that make you laugh will at least help a bit. Paging Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard.....

After you have been off for a while pop back in and lurk for a few days. You may find that the board can serve as a touch of therapy. Also, a little venting is always OK.

Look after yourself mate. Work on wearing out that white bike. The last few years have been the lowest in my life and I've plumbed some pretty good lows. Exercise is a great natural anti-depressant, but so is just enjoying the ride.
As others have suggested, lurk and post when you want to. There's no requirement that your posts be deeply technical or highly worthy, just play the ratbag card for a bit

I feel his pain but............
maybe a poll is needed on how long he'll actually be taking a break.
