All of my bikes have dork discs.

It seems so inappropriate for me to remove them.

Yeah I'm dorky too but only when I ride my Schwinns and my Specialized they have dork discs. My wife says I'm a dork all the time and she's right but I'm glad she took pity on my and married me cause I'm less dorky when I'm with her.

My bikes have dork discs until the first time I need to remove the cassette. Then they are gone. But I think if I bought a new Giant with that big ugly black one, I'd go ahead and take it off before I rode it. Those things are ugalee.

The platforms are just for a few weeks while she gets used to the bike. Stock pedals are Candies.

Is she thinking toe clips or clipless? (Sorry, not sure what Candies are...are they clipless?)

They are clipless pedals made by Crank Brothers. Here's a picture and description.

Me too. Had a nice road bike without one jump the chain and totally destroy the wheel. Yeah, I know all about the limit screws. But it's the nature of mechanical stuff to go out of trim for whatever reason. And if you saw how a swallowed chain took out or seriously bent EVERY spoke on the drive side just for the sake of saving about 5 grams then I think we'd all use them.... I know that I do on all my bikes other than the single speeds (room to let the chain hit the freewheel so they aren't needed).

Frankly I think DG got her the new bike just so he COULD have a reason for lagging back....

Me, trying to be patient. We were in the LBS for three hours!

DG, that's bad form in the bike shop. Sitting in the shopping mall, waiting outside of Macy's or TJMaxx, it's fine, but not at the LBS!

BTW, I now see why everyone is talking about your beautiful girlfriend!

Since noone else brought this up I feel obligated to ask....since the
bike storage bathtub is full will one of your bikes have to disappear or
has additional storage been discovered? Inquireing minds want to know.

Through clever rearrangement of furniture, the spare bedroom now hosts the two-bike gravity rack. Thus, Ruby and "what's her name" (the new Giant) live in there, and seem to get along so far.

But, I've relegated the grocery bike to the Great Outdoors because it's too heavy and clunky to keep in the bathtub. Yes, I realize the bike will slowly deteriorate out there, but if I keep it in the garage six blocks away it won't get used at all.

DG, don't fret over the errand bike. My trusty old Trek almost lives outdoors
year 'round and it's doing just fine: snow, road salt, rain, mud, nothing seems to
bother it too much. Of course I do have to clean and lube it once in a while....

Yeah, that's how I figure. Plus it never rains in Southern California (or Pitcairn Island, either). And if we do have the occasional typhoon and I feel badly enough, I can bring in Grocery Bike to the bathtub for a few days.

They scratch. Wear a wet suit in the bath. Nothing less than 5 cm

The "grocery bike" isn't the $750 Giant Cypress, is it?

Ugh! For some reason I was thinking Orange Crush. Oh well, like you say
there pretty much isn't any weather in your neck-o-the woods. Just be
sure to keep vigilant with the lube.

All of my bikes have the same Dork- And If I get off the bike they don't work.

I do not have one single bike with a Dork Disc. Can't remember taking them off the wheels- but most wheels are custom built and come without them.
