Maria and I rode Anza Borrego from Christmas Circle up Montezuma Valley Road, to Santa Ysabel, up the climb to Julian, then descent back to the desert floor. 73.4 miles, 6,781 feet of climbing, 5:19 riding time for a 15.4 average.
Taken about 1/2 up Montezuma Grade. We'd climbed about 1,500 feet by this time. Christmas Circle is in the far left background.

Maria putting on warm clothes at the summit of Montezuma before the long cold descent to San Felipe.

Maria enjoying a Mountain Dew in Julian (lots of tourists about).

Getting back into the Park after the descent from Julian. Me posing by the sign.

Jo and I did our version of hill training on the Homestead Trail MUP, here in Colorado Springs on Sunday. It's got the nickname of M&M or MEAN MUP, it's nothing but hills of all heights and steepness, in the northern foothills of C. Springs.

A look up the path, LOL, the only semi-flat spot:

It looks worse than it really was. I think the steepest grade was 6% and only briefly. The rollers broke up the flat valley floor and were fun to coast down on the way back.

No, but the second tandem on the bridge is, though. That was a really fun ride, I think half the folks on it qualified for this forum.
I really like that second pic you posted too, Deb; I remember coming up on it and thinking, "wow, this is one of those Kodak moments..." except I would have crashed getting my camera out of the back pocket, broken my collarbone, and then have to climb back up to the top from where I fell, to take the pic...
Here's my paltry contribution from the same ride.

Wow, great photos, everybody. I have mainly been doing the "same old routes" the past couple of months and so have not felt motivated to take a camera with me. I need to get out more...

From our ride yesterday. This hill is 11-12% with portions at 16% (according to some GPSs).

I rode a century on Wednesday, it's feeling like spring.
Near Row River and Wildwood Falls

The ride took me past the beautiful King Estate Winery and vineyards

Sunny to sopping fog, sometimes technical, sometimes moderate, always uphill (at least until the top...)
passed 3 hikers near the bottom, otherwise solitude until near the bottom again on the descent.
wisping breeze and fog, echoing thru the canyon, occasional bird call
and the tinkling of my mini cowbell, on the descent, brought the remembrance of other earlier, mtn slopes and meadows visited.
glad to be here, now

More climbing on your typical Friday ride.

Looks like a wonderful ride.
I'm deeply jealous.
I mean, there's nothing wrong here, but we have a place in Santa Cruz - and people tell me that Northern California isn't too ugly or too bad for cycling?
Tell me it isn't so, or I might be a little unhappy in the refinery tomorrow
Congratulations on your ride, many more of 'em to you

Ho hum. Another ride, another hill. This one is 3 miles, probably 7-8% with some steeper parts. We did 52 miles with 4000 ft of climbing.

Tuesday I was supposed to do a short recovery ride with two friends. I was going to meet them on a road I had never been on and we were supposed to gust sort of cruise along. Well I got the meeting place and they coldn't make it so I decided to ride the road myself. I live in a Valley and it turns out the road was one climbing out of that same valley. I believe ia had ot climb for better than an hour before I got to where I could stop and Text to the guys that I was bushed. They told me I had already done the hard part but I decide the best bet was to ride home. Climbing is not my idea of recovery no matter how slow it is. But it was a beautiful day and the ride down the hill was worth it.
I was on my Masi and I had never tried a flat bar on a long hill before.

In the background you can see how far the valley floor is.
But for a desert valley it can be pretty green.

But even in the desert we have horse ranches. This one was looking at my bike with suspicion.
