Today's photo stop was at a VFD station on our route. Neat to see the ladder and cab up. One of the station guys was nice enough to make the photo. In the low 50's starting out, but bright sun always makes it feel warmer. 27 miles

Nice loop yesterday; clear, cool, almost zero wind. A couple of dogs came out to see me last time I did this loop; fortunately for me, they were in the house this time around.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...97705a3b9f.jpg A few hundred acres of cotton I saw this field while driving last weekend, and had to run back out to get a picture. Call it "Alabama Snow" when a cotton field is ready for harvesting. When we moved here there were cotton fields all around, but now a lot of those fields have grown condos or subdivisions. :( Strangely enough a lot of these fields are growing beans this year, so we've seen a fair few articles bemoaning how all the soybean farmers are losing money because the price has dropped. |

Got in a 6 mile ride on the lake mup.
It was a beautiful afternoon to ride- 80°, sunny and low humidity-18%. |
It was a beautiful day today and I managed to get in a short ride around the Calgary reservoir! My bike wanted to stop and pose for a pic overlooking the Elbow River and the Calgary G&CC.

It rained this morning, so I did the elliptical at the Y. Rain stopped after noon, so I had time for a brief loop on the 1969 Phillips I saved from the metal recycler last year, which was perfect. I even was able to pick up a couple of items at the grocery store on the way back (big baskets are great).

I keep at it though I feel like I'm not getting much better. Rode to the LBS and ordered some P Zero TPU tubes. Maybe they'll make getting up the 9% grade immediately after leaving my house a teensy bit easier. 10.5 miles in a little over an hour active time, with a break on that hill, and of course another at LBS. Switching to a 11-36 cassette instead of the stock 11-34 seems like admitting failure, so I'm putting it off. But it'd be a LOT cheaper than trying to get lighter wheels. At least my comfortable cadence is getting higher (low 80's).

11 miles, 10, and 10-1/2 so far this week. The wind has been especially bad this week, tomorrow is supposed to be better. :D And 12 miles today. 10 miles in the rain yesterday. None today to much rain, but will be back at it tomorrow.

Each year, I lead an 8K run through the Osage Hills, across what was once the ranch of the Phillips 66 founder. It’s tradition for me to show up on a different vintage bike. This time, I planned to ride a 41-year-old Takara I picked up Thursday night and fully overhauled yesterday. But thanks to the rain and the total lack of cantilever brake pads anywhere nearby, I had to roll out on something a bit more modern with disk brakes. Still, the streak of riding a different bike every year remains unbroken. :thumb:

20km today around town, and 2 laps around the cycling course at Yoyogi Park. This is my 3rd ride since getting back on my bike after September's crash, and my first ride on drop bars. I would have ridden longer, but I started feeling some pain in my shoulders, it'll take some time to get comfortable in the roady position again. The ribs are healed (though it still hurts somewhat when I cough), the clavicle is mostly healed. Tomorrow promises to be a clear day, so I'll shoot for another 20km.

A nice fall day ride.
I did get my 30 miles in. 33. with 1500ft. Cañada Rd -> Sawyer Camp Trail -> and back -> add Olive Hill -> Woodside I did see a hawk up close. not a good photo though. I didn’t get the colorful fall foliage that I hoped for. on the same trip I saw a decent amount, a couple of years ago there, but maybe it was November? Still nothing like Upstate NY! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7fc5dc8cfc.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...67fce54bf8.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...840a49cc4c.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...756f6ab28e.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...60cb76c74d.jpg |
