20 mile New Year's Day club ride with about 40 others in mid-30's, breezy, dry weather.
I highly recommend the Starter wicking poly long underwear/tights available at walmart for cheap.

Chilly for me - in the low 40s when we started for 22 miles round trip with the Rose Parade as a super mid-ride break. The floats were fantastic and those of us who rode bikes weren't nearly as cold as some of the folks on the entry from Hawaii dressed for a luau and swim!

I stumbled upon a group of 30 or so riders this morning, joined up, and did 40 miles in two hours, in ideal conditions. Mid-70s. Little wind.

Got in 89 miles on New years day riding the Santa Ana river Trail from Riverside to Hunington Beach and then down to Newport and back. Lots of new kmart bikes on the trail and that's great. Maybe some of those kids will be the next Tour winners.

Everything clicked today: sun, not too windy, low traffic for two hours. Didn't want to come in.
The hills are just ahead...honest

Nice day for a ride. -3c, dry roads, still no snow on the ground.

Dead battery on the car this morning so I took that as a reason to ride the 37 miles each way to work and back today. Cold and rainy in the morning but cold and a tailwind on the ride home. In all not a bad day.

The weather seemed right (sunny and >40F) so I hit the road on my new bike. Did 33 miles. Still trying to work out the SRAM Apex shifting and minor fit differences between this bike and my main ride.

I didn't dress warm enough today. I thought it would warm up more but instead I came home early from hill repeats on Usery Pass from the cold.

1:45 saddle time riding solo over cold, dark, and windy roads tonight. The usual posse didn't show up leaving me to the the Lone Ranger.

After two and a half days helping my older daughter's family move to a new home I decided to ride the old Raleigh to a nearby grocery store. Legs felt like stone within a couple of miles. Just one of nature's reminders that I'm 60, not 50 and I did stress the legs a few times during the move. My legs did return to normal after about 30 minutes.

Otherwise it was pretty darn good. It's fun to rediscover crossover 2X5 gearing after using modern 8S+ drivetrains and that even with the Raleigh easily ten pounds heavier than my next lightest road bike it can still run at a good pace (no speedo/odo).

Yeup! The weather here was gorgeous today, and I did our 45 mile VCM Tuesday No Real Job group ride, with some challenging (for me, anyway) climbs. The group was small, only about 25 people present. I had good legs, and I was mid-pack the whole way. Umm...YAY!!

Somehow managed to convince the missus to come out at 6:30AM today. 30°F, pitch black. We headed across the bridge into New Jersey & did 15 miles at (her) endurance pace. Then the fun started:

She turned around and headed back at what I presume (or hope!) was a slightly-faster-than-endurance pace. I continued in the opposite direction for another ~half mile or so, but down hill. Then I turned around...and played Catch The Rabbit.

So basically I wound up doing a 15 mile warm-up, followed by a 10 mile time trial that started with a climb. I would like to say that after I caught her I resumed a cool-down pace, but frankly I was so wiped by that point that I was just trying to hang on to her wheel. Great workout, just under 30 miles total. A veritable buttload of fun!

Got in the first ride of the year. Felt like a drag because of the holiday fat i had stored up. Had a hard time going for a while until i realized that my front brake was dragging all the time. Fix it and went much better. 48 miles, 54 degrees when i left, 64 when i returned and high clouds.

Rode to work today. 25°F when I left at 7:15AM, but at least it was dry! The one nice thing about commuting when it's this cold is that I don't have to worry about working up a sweat. Normally when I commute I have to go extra slow in the morning so that I won't need a shower when I arrive at the office...since we don't have any showers! And then on the way home I can try to squeeze in any training agenda I might have. But today I was able to put the hammer down for some interval work, since that was the only way to keep warm! And I still arrived fresh as daisies.

13 mile RT, Short hop to the LBS, to have "new to me" wheel set put on the road hybrid. Then decided to order a pair of Sun EZ-1 SX Recumbents for the wife and I! Hope for good weather towards the end of next week!

38 miles, left late. Cloudy, cool 54 degrees and i was one layer short. Had to keep moving to stay warm. Had a nice Brisk ride. Now for a nice hot tamale and a cold beer.

Rode 71 miles from foothills to the beach along the San Gabriel River Trail. Skies were cloudy and temps stayed in the 50s. The only excitement came from dodging several loose and not friendly dogs. At one point I stopped to pick up a good-sized stick and was carrying it with me like a jousting knight. Luckily I didn't have to use it - I hadn't figured out exactly how I was going to do that, but felt better being armed so to speak.
