17.7 miles on a crisp 59 degree morning. Yes, 59 degrees in Tampa! It was great.

Unfortunately, had to take my bike to the shop because of a bad clicking noise that started in the bottom bracket area.

21 miles on the MUP. Great scenery but the 17 mph headwind on the northbound part blows. So to speak.

40 miles this afternoon around the wiregrass region of southeast Alabama. Peacock-blue skies, upper sixties, but a stiff wind out of the north. Another wonderful day on the old Raleigh!

I may shadow this ride and see how I do compared to you.( I know slower but hey it's all fun)
I ride the northern section so much, I try to do the middle and southern parts when I get a chance. Starting at Big Meadows is nice, but it is very close to the highest point in the park. Stanardsville is about 600 feet, and Big Meadows is about 3500, so ending at Big Meadows means it's all uphill to the end. Great if you're in shape for it

Have fun!

did my first 20 mile ride in August, on my 65th b-day. Did my personal best 28 miles on Sat, Oct 1, then hiking in the mountains on Sunday. Cooler weather coming this week so I'll be able to ride mid-day. My 'regular' route is 15 mi. For the '28' the first 27 were fine, but the last 1 was uphill and was very hard for me. I bumped a curb about 1/2 mi. out and fell, no injury except some scrapes and my ego. I'd really like to change to straight handlebars, I don't use the drop and I'd like easier access to the brakes.

Oh man yesterday was the most perfect bike riding day in human history. High of around 70, not a cloud in the hemisphere, no humidity (relatively speaking). Central Arkansas has yet another dedicated pedestrian/velo bridge across the big river, this one adjacent to the Clinton Library. Opened Sunday. So I crossed it over and back to make sure it'd take the weight, then rode out west and crossed the other two. I really need to get someone to share all this fun with - it's too much to keep hogging all to myself.

15.53 miles on the computer but I think I did more, just "forgot" to push the button to start the computer, I miss my, "wired" computer, it came on all by itself at movement of the wheel!! Nice day, sunny, breezy, clouds building over Pikes Peak but died off, life is good!

Yep - my "training ride" - the one with the hills - about 20 miles followed by a nice swim. There is a lady I know (in her 50's) who, a couple of years ago, was scared of the deep end, and could not do free style. Well, she took some lessons, and has been working hard and today I watched her swim laps free style in the deep end. She and I are both proud of her!! I love successes like this - bicycling, swimming, no matter.

Got back from cold and wet, northern Illinois vacation late yesterday and today I did my first ride since our Sept 24th. charity ride. Boy was it great! 15 miles after work at my wilderness park and it was an absolute gorgeous day for riding. Looking forward to more days like today.

Bikes: Specialized Camber Elite 29er

Did 16 miles today... my longest ride yet. I rode my 29er mountain bike the length and back of a nearby (relatively) paved/crushed granite MUP going along a big creek. The MUP connects four or five parks and has several moderate climbs, which I need to get my legs in shape. Felt good. Temps in the seventies, the heat wave in Texas looks to have finally broken.

Took the Specialized out with the new tires (see the General Cycling forum for more details). The rolling resistance on the tires is greater than on the GP4000 (my average speed was down). No surprise there. Did 33 miles.
After the cool front we had this weekend the temps are still lower than last week so needed arm warmers and a base layer undershirt for the first half of the ride. I'm not looking forward to fall/winter.

Trying to decide if I want to join a gym to do upper body fitness this winter. For $15 a month and no contract I guess I can't go wrong.

If you carry a Medicare Supplement such as Secure Horizons,it includes a free membershipto alocalgym/rec center. Checkitout with your supplement. My supplement gets me free accesstoour very upscale 24 hour fitness-at no cost to me, and, with that membership, I can gotoany 24 hour fitnessin the country.

Another supplement around here buys one amembership in our local rec center.

Weatherman's been saying it'd rain all day, been raining for a few days, I was caught out two days ago, glad I'd put my fenders on before going out. So today it was mostly cloudy, no rain is sight, so I went out and managed to ride just under 3 hours before the rain started. Timed it perfectly, was at my driveway when it started coming down.

Ah! So that's where this thread went. I couldn't find it Monday. I rarely look at the stickies normally.

I am not sure how it got to be a "sticky." Yes, stickies are ignored roundly, and, also, the 50+ forum is getting a whole "rash" of stickies lately, making any one of them more ignorable.

We had discussed this a couple of years ago and folks generally wanted to keep stickies at a minimum. Some forums have so many stickies that it takes a "page down" to get to the active threads.
