My Mom, got out the the hospital and back home, rode the 11 miles to her place to make sure she was comfortable and could get around ok. Nice day, a bit breezy but SUNNY and close to 60F. 22 miles for the day and peace of mind.

I took my new 3-speed out today. It's the same age as I am, 50 years old. I just got it running this week.

I towed my kiddie trailer, which I use for cargo. I rode six miles into a stiff headwind for a meeting. Then on the way back, I stopped at the supermarket and the pet shop. I hauled over 100 pounds of groceries up these hills. It was hard, and I'm glad I was up to the challenge. My back hurt afterwards.

I think I'm going to change the rear sprocket so I get lower gears. Those English three speeds were geared too high.

Rode 27 miles today. This will be my first 100 mile week after tomorrow's ride. I didn't have much in the tank today. Too much wine last night, I suspect. My heart rate kept redlining on moderate rollers so I kept getting dropped. Oh well ... lesson learned.

Rode to and from work today for the first time in 2010 - 19 miles total in sunny, windy mid-40's. Only had to be there for a couple of hours. I wish every workday were like today.

The weather was sunny and 62 when I left home. Tried a different route a friend told me about. Did 35 miles with a headwind hindering me too often.

Barely.

I haven't been on my bike since 2/19 due to work, weather and trips out of town, but I managed to make it out today. In my current context, the 20 miles I rode last time was OK. Today's 7 was disappointing, but for some reason I was just outta gas. I once again confirmed that my 6'+ (human) frame on my upright-geometry bike isn't ideal in an 18 mph headwind, to say the least. Maybe I need to upgrade the engine for a newer, more powerful model with fewer miles on it?

56 miles today in four hours. Not a cloud in the sky, but man was it windy, and I'm beat. At least it was reasonably warm. The ride confirmed I am NOT ready for a nearby 200 km brevet next weekend. Ah, well. There's always the late summer & fall series to shoot for. Now my first LD goal of the year is to complete a century in April or May. Like a few others here, I'm looking forward to longer days and more frequent rides after work.

A bit windy and chilly but we hooked up the utility trailer and went food shopping. Then we headed out to the St. Patrick's Day parade and the LBS, headed home 20 miles total. A nice day, to ride together!

I rode up to Wintergreen Resort in VA. Man that is one seriously long steep climb. Sustained 15% climb with many 17-20% sections. Hit over 20% for a short stretch getting back up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and my front wheel kept coming off the ground! 6K of climbing in 50 miles. Had a nice ride with a fellow visiting from Austria. Sunny, windy, but the tailwind blew me all the way home. Really couldn't ask for much better in early March:

Rode the Solvang (CA) century yesterday on the tandem. Beautiful weather with a bit of wind. Turned out to be a tougher ride than I expected. By the time we hit a tandem-steep, 1 mile pitch at mile 85 my legs had started to cramp to we walked a bit. Same with another pitch at mile 87. It's a gorgeous ride, would just rather have had the steeper sections in the beginning.

Spent Saturday watching gymnastics with my daughter but got out for a ride with my wife and the gymnastics coach today. We rode an easy 22.5 miles with 1500' of climbing. It was the ladies first ride of the year and they chatted all the way.

57 fairly easy miles with 4 others. The ride was fine until the last 20 minutes while we were riding on a country road and a driver buzzed by honking, cut in closely, then slammed the brakes on and stopped in front of us. The guy had a real attitude telling us to "get the hell a over". We had been in a single line and it was a wide open road. A heated discussion entailed and one of our guys called 911. Just then the driver identified himself as a police man and told us we were under arrest for disturbing the peace and obstruction. It got pretty ugly at that point but the local police did arrive within couple minutes. It turns out the uniformed officer told the off duty officer (from the same township department) that he would take care of it and to leave. In our discussions with both officers, the off duty officer stated that he was ready to pull his gun out of the glove compartment to defend himself. The uniformed officer asked him to leave and that he would take our names for the arrest warrants. The officer said that most likely nothing would come of this other than an apology from the off duty cop. The officer who took the details basically took our version over his coworker and even said that if he never stopped the car and continued driving the altercation would never have happened, and that is the first thing that he would convey to the chief. Man what a day, I've yet to tell my wife because this would upset her even more than me.

That is just plain nuts what happened. Wanted to pull out a gun! Yikes!

Really nice 34 mile ride with 4 friends. Temps in the low 70s and lots of green filling out the trees. Spring is arriving in central Georgia!

After yesterday's "hard ride" I thought about staying home but the weather was TOO NICE. Saw a guy rolling his bike down the driveway when I was about 3 blocks from home. I asked if he was heading out to Stone Mountain. He was so we rode together. Turns out he's 61. It was nice riding with someone rather than my usual ride all alone. He hasn't ridden much during the winter months so he only wanted to do a "short" ride. We did 27.5 miles.

5 miles round trip to the Potomac river. It was my first ride on a Raleigh RecordAce, 85 that I built. She's great but the engine was lacking.

Yep, 15 miles along the back roads, 42* (it was a 4 layer day) gray & cloudy.
I knew there would be no place to get pie on this ride, so I made an apple pie this morning and will have a piece after dinner.

I rarely get on the bike just for a fun ride. I like to get to useful places on it.

Yesterday (Sunday), I rode to my church job. I'm a paid choir member, even though that may sound odd. The church is about 19 miles away, so it was a 38 mile round trip. I had to get up extra early, walk and feed the dogs, and pedal out. I didn't know how long it would take, so I left extra time. On top of that, it was the first day of daylight savings time. But I managed, and I had a great time in both directions. It was cool, damp, and overcast, but no problems. I took less time than allotted, so I got there 15 minutes early. The ride out is almost completely uphill, and I had a lot of headwind, too, so that was the challenging part. I also challenged myself to stay in my large chainring.

The congregants were pretty impressed that I rode such a distance. Most people who don't ride regularly don't know that after just a bit of conditioning, this sort of ride can become a matter of course.

Rode a little over 16 miles at 5 this morning (before work). Haven't been on the bike for a while because I've been sick. I think I had the flu at the end of January and never really recovered. I ended up with a sinus infection. At the end of February I finally went to see a doctor. The antibiotics cleared up the infection. I bought a new carbon-frame bike in February and haven't really been able to ride it until today. It felt great to be back on the bike and able to breathe. I see longer rides ahead.
