After 50 miles of a 63 mile ride, I decided to take a break, and I lay down on the blacktop next to a rest area. I kept my helmet on and it was amazingly comfortable. It was cool (about 50 degrees), but the sun was shining and there was a nice breeze off the ocean.

It felt great, and I dozed off, to be awakened by raindrops on my face. The last several miles were through a hailstorm, going down a hill at 20 MPH with water splashing into my shoes. I was freezing.

That my friend was more then just a ride, that was an "adventure"...

IMO, that ride will stack up against "one of your best"...

Rode part of the local Tuesday night ride from the LBS. Just a bit over 19 miles to help me recover from the weekend's hard rides.

That qualifies as "epic." Way to HTFU!

I rode for about an hour tonight after work. Did some cruise intervals. Temps were right around 80, with light westerly winds, and LOTS of pollen.

Rode 22.5 miles on the tandem, 15.7 mph with some climbing and stop sign/light slowdowns. Three days of rain ahead and Saturday looks "iffy", bu we've got to get in at least 50-60 miles with an early start on Saturday. It's a good thing the next "long" ride is only 100K 'cause this rain is killing our conditioning.

No, stuck my nose out the back door this A.M. and i deemed it was to cold and windy with a chance of rain. Had a nice breakfast and took a mid morn nap which was my reward for a most excellent decision.

Today's ride
03/23/2011
My ride today was great.
42.5 miles today
Mileage this month 537
Mileage this year 1842
Over/under riding days this year vs. last year +1 day
Over/under miles this year vs. last year +220 miles
34 miles average per ride this year
41 miles average per ride this month (best ever)
5157 miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000

Great weather today, 62⁰F when I left home and 84F when I got back. Rode the length of the Seminole Wekiva Trail (26 miles) and back plus some road riding up to Deer Path with my daughter. I still have a shot at my goal of 700 miles this month but 650 miles would be a more realistic goal and I will need some cooperation from the weatherman. The wind was a bit UN cooperative today 11/20 mph from the WSW. Here are a few photos of today’s ride.

Photos left to right:
My daughter and favorite riding partner at the horse farms in Deer Path
A mother Sand Hill Crane and her baby chick. (first baby chick that I have seen)
Some fancy homes across Lake Sylvan
The first of 2 $3 million tunnels on our trail
The team slospoke at Lake Sylvan

Bikes: 2011 ICE Sprint Special Edition

LOL, well the WIND has been blow'in hard lately but I got the bike's 30 day check up and it ran so well, I just had to go out put 20 miles in the wind! Sunny but 20mph, with 40+ gust's wind, bring the temps down in March a bit.

Rode with a friend today on one of our classic loops. 59 miles and 5700' of climbing in a slow 4:35 ride time. It's hard to believe I should be riding this 40 min. faster by summer. I hope.

Freezing temperatures in Chicago meant shoe covers and wool sock for the feet and mittens over riding cloves for the hands. Partial sun and a minor breeze made for nice ride, however. 41 miles total.

We went on a very short ride for my wife to check out her new (used 2008 Specialized Allez) bike.

We tried to fit the ride in between the rainstorms but failed (temp 43 degrees):

13.5 miles today on the Short version of my first club ride of Spring. You call this Spring? Upper 30's, 15mph wind gusting to 19. Cloudy.
Hey! I'm not complaining. Small turnout and they were all hardier and faster than me. Nice ride in the country in spite of sub-optimal conditions.

52 miles today. Cloudy with temps in the mid-50s and spotty rainshowers. I dodged most of the rain - good timing for a change! At least the winds were light.

Yes, finally. It was just a short little ride, but it was better then nothing. It's been a heck of a week! - it started out w/my Dad being rushed to the hospital for blood clots in his lungs. He pulled through and is now in a short term rehab facility. It's also turned cold - it hit a high of 40 today. I rode the 2 miles to the rehab facility, spent a hour w/Dad and then rode maybe another 5 the long way 'round home.

Temp - 55-52F, wind about 8-10 mph - IOW, perfection

2 mile walk, 20 mile bike ride 35 minutes swimming. That is what I call a GREAT day.

Met a runner who just finished a 28 mile run. His goal is 50 mile run on his 50th birthday next month.
