My ride today was very good not to hot and not very windy, I rode with my friend Richard.
Miles today: 48
Mileage this month: 414+
Mileage this year: 2422+
Percent of goal achieved: 34.6%
Over/under riding days this year vs. last year: -4 days
Over/under miles this year vs. last year: 186+ miles
Average miles per ride this year: 36+ (best ever)
Average miles per ride this month: 51+ (best ever)
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 4577, this could very well be an 800 mile month and an 8,000 mile year is not out of reach.

We had great weather this morning, 68⁰F when I left home at 9:00 AM and 80⁰F and very hot when I got back this afternoon. Did the usual ride on the Seminole Wekiva Trail to Panera Bread for bagels and iced tea, then north through Heathrow to Orange Blvd. then to Sylvan Lake Rd. west to the trail head. We took a water break at the trail head then retraced our tracks back to the house. Good ride today.
Today’s wildlife count: 6 Sand Hill Cranes and 1 baby chick. This little guy has more than doubled his size in the last 3 weeks.

24 gray, windy, and cold miles today. :giver:

The day started sunny (with ice on the birdbath) but I had my piano tech. here and wanted to have him work on a particular issue before I left the house. It was clouding over and turning blustery by the time I headed out. NOAA weather forecast was calling for rain but that held off. The headwind leaving town turned my smiles into a grimace but I was able to persevere to the turn-around point and then was grateful. I'd have liked to put in a few more miles but am happy I made the effort.

The weekend is calling for a bit of sunshine and I hope to get some more miles and hill work accomplished then. Now, a good couple hours at the piano will create some smiles...:)

YES and on two wheels!

I didn't do a ton of miles but I learned to ride my Trident Stowaway 2 Trike on two wheels. Only with the left one up, not coordinated enough yet for the right one. And yes it does seem a little absurd spending that much cash for three wheels then trying to ride on two. But it's FUN:D

Rode the short wheelbase to work and back yesterday (19 miles RT). Ten mile ride tonite on the long wheelbase after work. Beeeautiful warm weather yesterday and today.

LAriverRat 04-15-11 12:06 AM

51 miles, 77 degrees, slight breeze, sunny. Perfect day and enjoyed the ride.

We had great weather this morning, 70⁰F when I left home at 8:00 AM and 79⁰F and very humid when I got back this afternoon. Did the usual ride on the Seminole Wekiva Trail with a loop through Mandarin to Panera Bread for a bagel and coffee, then north through Heathrow to Orange Blvd. then north of SR 46 to Deer Path. The return trip was pretty tough with an East wind with 19 mph gusts. The wind was either in my face or a cross wind but still a good ride today.

Today’s wildlife count: 5 Sand Hill Cranes and 1 baby chick.

Yeppers sure did 27 miles and the last 7 were dead into a strong headwind, brutal. 18 mph avg though.
Right now listening to Sonny Landreth live at Grant Street Congo Square. Just sayin'

Spring is here! My usual 30 mile CX-ride through the woods, then a long walk with the wife. It's been a very long and cold winter so spring is very welcome.

Wow!! Great pics, and Norway is beautiful (although I guess cold!)

Thanks for sharing.

We had great weather this morning, 70⁰F when I left home at 8:00 AM and 86⁰F with wind gusts up to 23 mph and very humid when I got back this afternoon. Met my friend and his son at the Buddhist Temple and rode the West Orange Trail. Rode south around Lake Apopka to Kilarney then took the South Lake Trail west to almost Rt. 27 before turning around. Hundreds of cyclist out on the trail today. In my rush to get going this morning I left my 2 water bottles and camel back on the patio so I had to stop at the local 7-11 and buy some water.

Today’s wildlife count: 2 peacocks and one ostrich.

No ride today. There was a threat of severe weather from the system that spawned so many tornoadoes yesterday. The front blew through around noon. Skies are clear now but the wind is still howling and bending the treetops into interesting shapes. Should be perfect riding weather tomorrow.

ZIPP2001 04-16-11 04:58 PM

Was able to get out after working 5 hours for a 35 mile ride with 42 degree temps and wind gust's up to 25mph.

rdtompki 04-16-11 04:59 PM

Did 79 miles of the the Tierra Bella century on the tandem. We skipped the climb up to Henry Coe park which is about 3000' of climbing in a 22 mile up/down. The 79 miles had about 3200' of climbing. Pretty bad headwind on a a northerly stretch, but otherwise the weather was fine with temps between 55 and 65.

bjjoondo 04-16-11 05:04 PM

The wife and I did a sweet 31 miles of "rambling", we just rode, here, there and everywhere, LOL. Hope lot's got in a ride today! :D

JanMM 04-16-11 08:39 PM

Was supposed to rain most of the day so we were fortunate that it was dry much of the morning and early afternoon. Got out on the Screamer with wife/stoker for a ten mile ride midday. We've ridden the new tandem almost 100 miles this year compared to less than 350 miles on our KHS tandem all of last year. Off to a good start!

BluesDawg 04-16-11 11:06 PM

I rode a century in obscenely strong wind. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...une-Up-Century

BikeWNC 04-17-11 12:22 PM

I had been having trouble lately on the climbs and felt like I wasn't using my glutes on the pedal stroke. Yesterday I changed my bike position back to what I rode last summer. Over the winter I had moved the bar higher and closer to a more upright position to try to help with some neck pain I was getting after a layoff. But the higher position didn't help and actually caused more saddle and hand numbness. So I went back.

Going back meant changing a 110 stem with +10º and 12mm of spacers to a 135 stem with no spacers at -10º. My saddle moved back slightly too. My reach changed from 58cm tip of saddle to center of bars to 62.5cm. Ahhh! Comfort!

I took the bike out Sat. on a 20 mile loop I know so very well. Even in the wind I managed my best time of the year so far. Today I rode our local Ring of Fire route which is only 39 miles but has over 4500' of steep climbing. I suffered to a 3:13 last time I did it a couple weeks ago but today I rode in at 2:54. If I wasn't so slow on the descents I'd probably shave several more minutes too.

I guess for me a longer lower position is what works best. I need to keep the curve out of my back by being stretched out. I need my pelvis rotated forward. Sitting upright just doesn't work for me especially on climbs. It's been a good weekend!

BluesDawg 04-17-11 12:32 PM

Why did you go with a shorter stem when you raised your bar? Might you not still be comfortable in the higher position if you had not also gone shorter?

JanMM 04-17-11 12:41 PM

35 mile club ride today in semi-warm, dry, mostly sunny (and did I mention windy?) conditions. A year ago, this same ride liked to killed me - hope that means that I am a tad bit fitter this year.

I started with the same stem and gradually went shorter. Usually the higher the bar the shorter the reach all things being equal. As it is now I have 8.3cm of drop from saddle to bar. Not excessive for someone 6'3" tall. I think before I had about 3cm. I just fell less cramped on the bike which is good I think.

Today was the first major climb of the year. 12 windy miles out to an 1100' climb which is about 2.5 miles long, a terraced climb with lots of short steep sections. Overall the ride was 30 miles with a total of 2000' of climbing. The ride was a slow ride due to the strong winds and the 40 miles I did yesterday and the fact I am just getting back this season.

Today was my very 1st ride on my new road bike. After coming from a nice hybrid without clips, I could tell this was going to be different. A friend of mine down the street is a tri-athlete and she asked me to ride. I practiced clipping in and out before we met, but there's nothing like baptism under fire (pardon the expression). We hit the road and did an easy 8 miles. I had several opportunities to unclip and reclip with no problems (You can tell there's more to this story).

We took a water break and headed back. Again, 8 miles of clip in, clip out just like I'd been doing it for years. The bike was an absolute dream too. The difference in a heavier hybrid and a carbon road bike is night and day.

So, we get back to our neighborhood and hung out a bit chatting on our bikes. She left to go home so I turned and did the same. My garage is in an alley way. There's a dip going into the alley. Yep, got one tire over the dip, lost control and I fell to my right. I quickly unclipped like it was in slow motion as I went down. I hit the pavement and the bike landed on me. Unfortunately the gears landed on me too and knocked off the chain. The front tire got out of alignment and was dragging the brakes. Was I just a happy camper? Not. My brand new baby was a mess and I was bummed.

In any event, I called a local shop who was open, ran it over, and they fixed everything just like new. I took it for a quick spin around the block, changed gears a few times, used the brakes and all seemed well. They wouldn't even let me pay them! That's service.

Can't wait to get back out there and try again. I really do want to be sure there's nothing else wrong, but I think it's going to be fine.
