30 mile club ride Tuesday. A couple of the fast guys had mercy on the slower group I ride with and hung back with us, towing us most of the way. We finished 3 minutes quicker than last week when I did most of the pulling but I didn't work as hard. I'm really happy with how my climbing is coming along. I'll never be an uphill rocket, but I'm definitely improving. Internet is down at home so I cant upload the Garmin data.
FWI, NealH and I are heading down to Wahalla, SC Sat. for Issaqueena's Last Ride. We'll probably ride some version of the century, about 84 miles I think. We can jump on the metric route at mile 74 and cut off 16 miles on the way back in. Come join us if you'd like. |

Rode some of the un-submerged River Trail last night... some guy on an expensive-looking road bike went offroad to skirt a lake but I turned back, heck with that, not on a new bike. The Big Dam Bridge was full of pedestrians, beautiful night for it. If you've never been here to ride the River Trail you're missing a great resource. Not sure why else you'd come to Arkansas, guess that's up to you, but we have marvelous velo. Tonight I'm going back with the old Schwinn to do some rootin'! I see some other Arkies on this forum - hey ya'll. If you're on the 'Trail tonight, look for a regular size guy on a too-tall old Alaska blue Schwinn World Sport.

Got in a 19 mile tandem ride with wife/stoker today. Still working on improving our start-up technique. No rain today!

I'll be doing a ride in Warrenton, GA this Saturday. Keep trying, though. We'll find one we can ride together one of these days. I'm doing the Challenge of the Centuries in Hartwell, GA on May 28-29, near the SC border. The Saturday century route is mostly in SC (unless they changed it). Nice ride. Then June 5-11 is BRAG.

31 miles after work in 60° weather. It was 22° colder than yesterday, crazy weather, at least it was dry.
Rained all the way in to work and most the morning. |
Usual commute (24mi rt, 1000' vert, most of that going home). 26f this morning, should be high 60's going home. Such fun trying to dress for winter in the morning, summer in the evening...

46 miles, took my bike when i dropped off the car for a new timing belt/brakes. Steady 3 to 8 mph headwind felt like 25 as i had no pep or legs to start. Turned it into an oh well day. Went to the beach, it was a nice 74 degrees and some breezes. Went to Bolsa Chica beach but just pooped out so i just sat for a while about a 3rd of the way in. Headed back home, felt a little better but it got hotter and hotter, was 92 degrees and it kicked my behind.

SP Bend, OR And this morning, it's upper 40's. 20 deg warmer than yesterday. Gotta love this high-desert weather. (But I'll take it over constant rain any day.) SP Bend, OR |
Today’s ride was pretty uneventful, for the first 35 miles I rode by myself. Did my usual Panera stop for a coffee and Pecan Twist (needed a change from the usual bagel). Headed on out to Deer Path then back to the northern trail head. Ran into Phil who I ride with when he is not in Miami taking care of his aging mother. It was good to see him and spend some time with him.

Lately I have been riding all my 80s vintage bikes..Well, yesterday, I took out my 79 Raleigh Competition GS #2 for the work commute. Shucks, I had forgot how good these older Competitions ride and feel. This bike was an original one-owner bike. When I purchased it the seller gave me the reciept and it showed where he opted for a brown Brooks racing seat. The only thing I changed on the bike was the bar tape. I put on Velo-Orange brown Elkskin.. I did about 15 miles on the bike..The older concave wheels, feel as if they have a slight ding. Anyway, I don't like the looks of them, and will be putting some NOS wheels on pretty soon.
Today, I am pulling out 79 Raleigh Competition GS #1. ;) I have two Raleigh Comps exactly alike. However, #2 is almost cheery, full campy, and in almost new condition.. The #1 has seen it times, and I crashed on it this year. Well, such are the ways of a old vintage bike rider...;) |
Our T/T group did 41 miles and averaged about 20 mph.

Today’s sightings: Passed a female Seminole County Sheriffs officer riding on the trail today. First time I had seen this in all of the time I have spent on that trail. I had planned to ride more but the rain was on it’s way so I headed for home.

Got out for a whopping 1.86 miles today. I needed to check out the bike after replacing the saddle, brake pads and swapping the rear wheel and cassette. I made a few adjustments and all seems ready to roll. Gonna ride a new saddle on a long 80+ mile ride tomorrow. I always do $h!t like this before long rides. lol
