Bikes: Yes.

10 miles on the trusty hybrid mountain bike thing (Cannondale M500) round tripping the public pool where I swam for 40 minutes.

Tomorrow will see me riding a full century. I'm taking it a little easy today!

Went to the top of Sulphur Gulch, then over to Village Inn to join our "church seniors group" for breakfast - they all think I am amazing because I ride my bike to these breakfasts - then home. Tim and Amy are coming home tomorrow after 2 weeks in trial in CA. It appears - from the judge's comments - that they have won this huge case against a corporate giant. We enjoyed greatly placing many baskets of hanging flowers on their patio and patio cover, and putting some fresh food in the fridge. They love the hanging flowers, and, due to this lawsuit and preparation, they have not had time to purchase and place their own.

First ride on the "new" Trek 5200 today (bought used and put in new drivetrain (BB, cranks, chain, cassette) and tires). What a difference from the old Schwinn Circuit. Darn thing kept wanting me to go faster, go figure!!!!! Sweet ride this morning.

Got in 58 miles between 8AM and 11:20AM. I love Saturday rides along the North Shore suburbs of Chicago, must have seen 200 cyclists. The weather could not be better.

We stopped at the Northbrook Velodrome, which is open to the public.

For a change of pace I took the Salsa out for a 21 mile dirt and paved road ride. We had a good rain last night, so the dirt roads were softened up a bit making it a little harder to keep my speed up on the uphills. Also I think I erred a little toward comfort vs efficiency when pumping my tires. I could have stood a little more pressure in my rear tire. Then again, once I accepted that the Casseroll just won't ride fast as easily as the much lighter Roubaix, I started to appreciate what a versatile and good riding bike it is. I love being able to turn down any road I see without concern over whether the pavement will end.

20 easy miles with my Saturday bike group. Nothing spectacular, averaged 12-14 mph. (I did say easy). Tomorrow morning the wife and I get serious. I'm planning a 40 mile before lunch and I'm not sure what my wife is planning on her new bent that she bought today.

I rode two of my vintage bikes about 15 miles each around my area. It seems each one was trying to out ride the other. Both of them rode sweetly, and I mean sweetly.. 85 Raleigh Prestige, 88 Centurion Ironman.

Met NealH for the Big Walker Metric (only 57.4 miles) today. We had a good ride in cool conditions. Beautiful course.

10 miles yesterday evening. Made a slight change to my seat - making the back a bit more upright was a change for the better.

24 miles this afternoon - morning club ride would have been wet so I rode by myself. Mostly rural roads. Saw one gopher, or do you say woodchuck? It was not chucking wood.

Hit up the Blue Ridge Parkway again (mostly) for a 108 mile ride, 9200 ft of climbs.

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/93248008

Notable features:

1) climb up to the parkway from Vesuvius. This is part of the TransAmerica route, and many cross-country tourists consider this the hardest section of the entire route. I was glad I wasn't carrying a full set of loaded panniers

2) Thunder Ridge climb goes from the lowest point on the Parkway in Virginia (650 ft) to the highest point (3950 ft.) over a 12-mile stretch. Makes for an incredibly sweet downhill!

3) Horseflies!!?!?

Pic of my bike at the top of the climb:

How does the R5 compare to the R3sl? Is there enough of a difference between them? I think the geometry has changed on the R5 too?

Bikes: Yes.

97.03 miles yesterday, just shy of my desired century. I round tripped Santa Cruz from Monterey. The pace was lower than I'd have liked, and there wasn't much in the way of climbing, but it was a sweet ride! On the way back, the traffic on Highway 1 through Moss Landing was ridiculous (as it always is), and there was a stiff headwind (15 to 20 MPH) from there all the way to home - 20 miles.

It was a great workout!

Good job sarals. The Century a Month Club does count 90+ as a century (a couple of friends did that last year). But I know what you mean by wanting to see the 100 on the computer.

Today I decided to ride the trails at our home that I have been working on. Probably close to a mile of trails, with lots of ups and downs. The trail isn't complete, so there was walking, but it was a very good workout. The hope is to continue to enlarge it to about 5 miles total. So far though, the trail seems to be either holding on for dear life, or grinding up a hill with your nose on the front wheel...

wind both directions sucks

yeppers and I gotta tell ya, wind in your face going out and coming in really sucks! Had significant wind shift about a mile before my turn around point. A 24-mile ride that normally takes less than 2 hours took me 2 hours 21 minutes today. Oh well; it didn't kill me so I guess it made me stronger.
