Was planning to leave at 8:30am, however my wife asked me to do a few things sooooooo, left at 11:24 instead. Just enough lag to hit the wind i had hoped to avoid today. Cross wind going out so not to bad. Got to Seal Beach and it was almost moving me around on the bench i was sitting on and bending a 50 foot tall steel flag pole. I had thought about Huntington Beach but no way, so i headed for home. First six miles good tail wind, then it shifted to a cross wind, then into a hard headwind. How does it do that? 42 miles, mostly in the big ring. Sunny, and windy.

avmech 07-29-11 06:55 PM

Same headwind today as yesterday, still did 8.3 miles

Wife is working today so I left for my usual MUP early to ride solo. Ran into a riding buddy of mine at the south entrance of the park and we proceeded to ride 40 miles together. I was going to do an even 50 but it was starting to warm up really quick. Great ride, great weather. Doesn't get any better than that. I'm going out this afternoon for my pie.

Today was one of the fun rides I love to do. It's the "Bike for the Health of It" program with the local MetroParks. I've been a volunteer patrolman with this organization for 7 years.

The picture is of a rest area along the trail. It's called "Pete's Station" and is dedicated to a gentleman who was very involved in getting this trail built. The rest area is surrounded by a wildflower field and it's beautiful this time of the year:)

34 tandem miles with one decent 1000' climb. Late in the ride we stopped for some really delicious sourdough french toast. Now the week-long taper for Saturday's 100K.

DnvrFox 07-30-11 01:28 PM

26 miles, walk with wife, swim

jppe 07-30-11 01:37 PM

200.5 miles!! And averaged a little under 18 mph--while there were some paceline miles the majority were pretty much solo.

Floyd 07-30-11 01:49 PM

Rode several days this week, has to be early in the morning while it is still 'cool' enough.. did a little over 10 today before had to get to work

teachme 07-30-11 01:59 PM

20 mile recovery ride this morning.

BR46 07-30-11 02:16 PM

The wife and I went for breakfast and rode the Ozaukee Interurban Trail for the first time.
This was her first 40mi ride.

Got up and rode 20 miles this morning. Before the heat sets in again! Then mowed the yard and did the weedeating. Now I'm pooped out!

43 miles on the Badger trail. Drove up to Monticello and rode north to Fitchburg, just south of Madison. The last 5 miles were paved with asphalt-nice! Only down side was having to deal with Madison bikers who can be pretty arrogant.

62.9 today @ 17.2. humid ride, and a bit warm (95 at the end). I was on vacation this week, and totaled 256 miles for the week. We visited my son and daughter-in-law in Minnesota. He rented me a Madone for 2 days for a birthday gift. That was great.

It was a little of everything riding today.

I road my bike to work at the bike shop today, and on the way I realized I forgot my lunch. There is a Shaw's supermarket right on the way, so I figured I'd stop there and grab a pre-made sub. I didn't have my bike lock, and I was not going to leave the bike out front, so I pulled my wallet out of my back pack, hooked my helmet on the handle bars and walked right into the store with the bike. Walked to the deli area, then to the self check out, where the machine would not take my $5 bill. One of the check out ladies came over to help, but didn't say boo about the bike, she fixed the problem and out I went. :-)

Then, at the bike shop, around 3 things really slowed down, and one of the kids working there asked if he could leave early. The owner said No way, if anyone was to leave early it would be him so he could go for a ride. Then he looked over at me and said Yeah, that's it! Jean (me) and him were going to take a couple of the new demo bikes out!
(There is a small single track system in a park about 1/4 of a mile from the shop where customers demo bikes.)
I said Really?!? He said Yes, really.
I picked the Yeti 575 and he rode a Santa Cruz Tallboy and off we went for a quick 30 min spin through the woods. It was a tough assignment, but you gotta take one for the team every once in a while. ;-)

The back on the road bike for the 15ish miles home. All in all, a good days riding.

Beautiful flowers Beverly!

20 mile casual ride around the airport with a dozen members of the club. Lots of fun except for the part when we came upon a rider, not part of our group, who had crashed and injured her head (no helmet). On of our group who is an RN helped keep her calm and stable until the ambulance arrived.

bjjoondo 07-30-11 07:35 PM

15 miles, just kick'in around on the bent, stopped and got some bar extentions for the wife, (Navigator) on the tandem for tomorrows ride! :)

51 miles on a club ride out of Plum City, WI today. The organized ride was 77 miles with shorter options. At the outset I had decided to go short b/c I had other things I wanted to do today. I felt rather low in energy during the early stages of the ride, confirming that going short was a good idea today. After the rest stop at 28 miles, everybody else headed out to the NE and I swung to the west, returning on my own. There were some significant climbs on the way back and I was just as happy to do them at my own pace without worrying about whether I was keeping up.

Where did you ride in Minnesota?

John_V 07-31-11 10:35 AM

After yesterday's 40 mile ride, the wife got home from work and after dinner wanted to go out and ride so I ended up doing another 7 miles in our neighborhood. This morning it was out to our normal riding path where she outdid her personal best of 24 miles with a 26 mile ride. I decided to take the hybrid today and do the ride with her and I'm glad that I did. It was a great ride with all sorts of wildlife out today including a family of wild turkey's walking along side of the road without a care in the world. And as it always seems to go, when I need the camera, I forget it at home.

65 mile club ride in the western suburbs. A hot day- maybe 92 °F - made a little better by intermittent cloud cover. The 65 miles gives me 1052 for the month, which makes the first time I've ever exceeded 1000 miles/month. It feels GREAT.....except for the other parts of my life that I'm neglecting.....

Considering the record heat wave you've had there that is quite an accomplishment!!

I rode 47 miles on Saturday and 51 on Sunday. Temps are around 80 degrees, sunny and dry, it's hard to beat the PNW this time of year, best climate ever!

Getting a Novice rider on the next stage of his riding and a 40 mile flat ride today. Taking him out is getting my fitness back too after a poor winter so Quite happy that both of us managed a full afternoon of house and garden chores before collapsing in front of the computer at 9pm.
