Not all us Madison riders are arrogant, though I agree some are. I rode about 15 miles around said Madison, on a tandem with my 14-year old daughter. Sunny and hot, but nice.

I haven't really been on the Badger Trail much yet, but I intend to. I'll try to be humble.

Rode 35 miles Saturday, was a beautiful morning, did a loop around the SW Waukesha county area with around 1200 ft of climbing according to my garmin. Was chased by a small deer that at first I thought was a dog. I would stop and it would stop, I would start and it would start so finally had to yell at it to get it back in the woods before a care hit it.

Only had time for 20 miles this morning because my son was in a basketball tourney that I needed to attend. Nothing like sitting in a hot no A/C gym...

I'm slowly increasing my speed and my legs are feeling stronger, I'm able to average a little over 18 mph on a good day. My right leg is still a lot weaker then my left but improving (haven't rode for 12 years and had hip replacement and started back up this year).

I love being able to bike again.....:)

I really, really enjoy this thread and reading about peoples riding areas, weather, goals and all it. Where else would anyone report that a highlight of their ride was the wild flowers.

I rode 46 miles on a club ride today and can confirm Greg Lemond's observation that it never gets easier - you just go faster. In fact, the speed averaging function on my bike computer displays a tiny arrow to indicate whether the current speed shown is higher or lower than the average speed. I'm pleased to say that my current speed is always above average.

Out club rides begin at 10 AM. as today's temps were to be on the hot side of comfortable. I arrived at our start point way early and began riding at 9 AM. At about my half way point I was caught up by a small peloton of 20 of the hot shot riders who were doing just about twice my speed or about 24 mph. The part I don't understand is how those skinny women develop so much power. Oh well, they are all less than half my age so they should be going twice as fast. A great ride on some very pretty country roads.

I'm pleased to say that my current speed is always above average.
Err!!

I believe that is a mathematical impossibility. However, perhaps your bike is in consort with the current grading scale in the public schhools, where, also, everyone is above aveerage.

In any event, I greatly enjoy your posts, and they are definitely above average :)

Denver, you have many accomplishments in life. I would suggest to you that dreaming up this sub-forum is one of those accomplishments. A well done for the mods too for going along with this.

46.5 @ 16.0 ave this morning.

First ride back after 9 months on the injured list.

Still a slow recovery with the neck herniations, touch and go. Plus the asthma's been a beyotch, so taking it real easy with 2 miles of nothing but hills (no such thing as flat in my immediate neighborhood).

Shortest ride since I came back from pneumonia in '06, but I hope to build back up if the neck stays good.

Against my better judgement, I waited until 4:00 this afternoon to ride with some good friends in Eatonton, about a 25 mile drive from here. We picked one of the hottest days yet to ride. It was over 100F for most of the ride. We had a fairly fast start, probably too fast. I also think I underdosed on the electrolytes. I hit a wall at about 26 miles into our 40 mile ride. Not a true bonk, but I had no drive for the hills after that and I fell way off the back of a group that I can usually hang with fairly easily. But it was still a good ride and I felt fine after some cold water, some chocolate milk and a coke before driving home. Once home I had some leftover Thai food and a couple of Left Hand Polestar Pilsners that truly hit the spot.

33 tandem miles, 800' of climbing, avg. 18.9 mph. No hammering but took every opportunity to get aero and go fast. The goal was to keep it fun and avoid working hard. Happy to say that we achieved our goal. Fun stuff!

No, today's a well-deserved rest day for me. Saturday, did a 107-mile group ride, the entire latter half of which was into an infuriating headwind. Then Sunday did what was supposed to be a 37-mile recovery ride...which, 10 miles from the end suddenly turned into a balls-out sprintfest. Redline city.

Probably couldn't ride today if I wanted to!

teachme 08-01-11 10:21 AM

20 miles this morning.

sarals 08-01-11 12:40 PM

Yes. 21 miles Saturday, 20 miles yesterday, and 22 miles today. All this at an "easy pace", mind you! But, at least I'm riding.

rdtompki 08-01-11 01:33 PM

waynesulak 08-01-11 03:30 PM

Sculptor7 08-01-11 03:59 PM

LAriverRat 08-01-11 06:13 PM

I am sorry, very sorry, to whoever or whatever I offended, I am very very sorry. Now call off that dam headwind that i have in every direction i go! 57 miles of cross head wind, direct head wind, swirling headwind, blasting side winds that turns into a headwind. Did i say i was sorry? I am sorry.

avmech 08-01-11 06:58 PM

just got back from an easy 8.53 miles

2dog 08-01-11 07:30 PM

17 miles this morning . observed a coyote who was observing me. The other day I saw a weasel on the bike trail.

JanMM 08-01-11 08:27 PM

Today: 10 miles in the evening including the one semi-hill in our immediate vicinity. I resolve to ride this hill just about every time I go out.
Yesterday: 10 miles in the morning on my long wheelbase 'bent and then 15 miles in the afternoon on the tandem 'bent. We did ride up the hill on the tandem ride. We passed the 400 mile mark on the tandem - last year we only totaled about 250 miles on our previous KHS tandem.

Allegheny Jet 08-02-11 07:56 AM

I ride most days. However, yesterday was special as my son was visiting and we rode 40 miles together. I was supposed to do an easy ride but bagged it to enjoy some suffering inflicted by my Cat 2 racer son as we went up a few tough climbs and I held his wheel up the hills.;)

Been off the bike for a month while traveling with our daughter for her gymnastics and then family vacation! I've only ridden a total of 3 times the last six weeks. Oh well, got a century coming up in 5 weeks so I had better get back to it. Kids, they cut into one's riding time but you only get one chance to spend time with them as they grow.

I'm riding the Civil War Century out of Thurmont Md in Sept. but it will be a tour for me as I really want to take my time through the battlefields. I've never been to Gettysburg so I'm looking forward to the trip. Hope the weather obliges!

Heading up to the BRP this afternoon to assess the damage the layoff has caused. lol

BikeWNC 08-02-11 03:21 PM

Left town with temps around 90º and drove the short distance up to the BRP. Got in an easy spin of 11 miles to loosen my legs and get some blood flowing again. Had about 1200' of climbing and it was quite comfortable riding with temps in the low 70s. It felt good to be back on the bike.

Barrettscv 08-02-11 03:33 PM

I had a 30 mile ride at about 90F with my riding friend. He had a great weekend, taking 3rd in his age group & 14th overall (out of 800) at the Chicago South Shore Triathlon on Saturday. He has already qualified for the Boston Marathon this year and is working on going to Kona in the future.

Shifty 08-02-11 05:33 PM

It was chilly when I started this morning at 10:00, I thought about going back for arm warmers, but it's August!!! A delightful 45 mile ride north of Eugene among the farms. The farmers are baling hay from the grass crops and some are starting to harvest the peppermint, so that sure smelled good. The ride was flat with a very mild breeze, sunny and dry.

John_V 08-02-11 06:33 PM

The weather here has been hot, humid and rain in the afternoons. Looked like it was going to come down in buckets yesterday so I opted not to ride. Not one damn drop. Today is my "get home from work late" night and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Let's see what happens tomorrow with this depression that's out there.
