Did an out and back on an absolutely beautiful day. High of 72 F and no winds to speak of. Felt tight to start but felt really good from the mid-point on. Now for the Black eyed peas and ham hock and jalapeno cornbread for dinner our deep south family traditional New Years Day dish.
Front moves through tonight and lows will be in the mid 20's for a few nights and highs in the mid-50's but sunny and clear. Time to layer up and enjoy. Bill |
Did 1.5 miles yesterday, due to 45 mile an hour winds, 39 degree temps , Went home and put pedals on the indoor bike
|
Did a 25 mile ride in the wind and rain, not much fun but better than nothing.

Wow. I've never seen a saddle like that... looks kinda like something from "Alien". :D
It looks like it would be easy to slide off to the front, but I assume not? How did it work out? What a bummer. Too bad he couldn't ride around his neighborhood a few times to get those last 4.5 miles... 20 adjustments and I was not able to get it to work. 102 miles New Years Day back on a regular saddle. |
Did 23 miles in windy chilly conditions. Tomorrow, especially if I start at sunrise, it's going to be around 27°F with 22+mph winds, wind chill of 14°F, which will be the harshest conditions I've yet to experience. Just trying to get all the rides I can in before my surgery on the 13th.

Along with hundreds of other Indy cyclists did 12.2 miles on Mayor Ballard's Polar Bear Pedal today. Mid-20's, windy, and snowing a little. Rode to the Major Taylor Velodrome, stopped for hot chocolate - the line was way too long - then back downtown. Escorted all the way by IMPD officers on bikes. Other officers blocked traffic for us at all intersections. The mayor rode the distance with the group. He is no Poser. Did I mention that it was cold?

Start - 40F Finish - 49F - just a bit of wind and sunny and clear. A couple of hours of bliss.
|
First ride of the year -- 14 miles in 18degF weather and 20mph NW wind. Pretty comfortable until the last couple miles. Didn't break any speed records.

Only 20.7mi on the tandem today. It was a lovely day, cooler than yesterday. Not so many bikes out.
Got home, cleaned up the salt from yesterday's ride, and noticed a broken spoke. Wouldn't you know, it was drive side trailing. Rode off on the Bianchi to my favorite LBS, discovered them closed. Went off to another, picked up a handful of spokes, then spent the next two hours stringing the spoke and truing the wheel. |
13 miles to the river and back.

Started a ride a few minutes before sunrise(27°/windchill 16°). I was fine except my hands. I realized a couple of miles into the ride that the gloves I had were not going to hack it(especially with the 23mph winds). I turned around at about the 3 or 3 1/2 mile mark and went back home. Started again around 12:00, 34° with a windchill of about 25°, and went to the LBS which is on my route. Stopped in the LBS armed with my CC and bought a pair of Specialized SubZero gloves--wore those the rest of the ride(much toastier). All in all, including the 6+ miles in the wee hours, I fit in about 20/21 miles. Tomorrow, I'll have the right gloves and do my usual 23(plus the wind will only be 8 mph instead of 23 mph).

15 miles on the trainer today. Temps finally dropped into the 30's with 10 mph winds. I know you "snow people" don't find that cold but it's the coldest day we have had this winter. Remember, this IS Florida.
It wasn't an interesting ride or even a fun ride but I got some mileage in,and that's better than nothing. |
I did! Cold and all! I rode my new/old Giant CFR Team to my LBS, where it was inspected (and approved!), got the shifting sorted out, and then I put in a nice short ride on it. 22 miles all told. What a nice bicycle! Now I have two very capable road bikes.

two tenths of a mile to the PO Box and back. Mostly catalogs for my wife, :)
|
Temps barely got above 32 today. I bundled up and rode the single speed around the neighborhood for 3 miles. Thought I was going to sweat to death. Didn't think I had on that many layers. The nylon outer layer really blocked the wind and held in the heat. Kirby

Today was my day for Black Mtn. hill repeats. They did not go well. I can think of a few explanations (hard day riding yesterday, lack of sleep), but for whatever reason, it was one of the hardest outings I've had since I started doing these repeats in October. Five repeats of a 760 ft, ~10% hill, plus minor mileage to and from the base - 20 miles or so, 3900 ft. of climbing. The toughest part of the hill is the beginning, where it goes up about 250 feet at 13-14%. On the 3rd repeat, I wasn't sure I could do it (but I did) and by the 5th, it was just excruciating.
Oh, but I did see a wallaby by the side of the road on my 5th time up. I'm aiming to improve my technique and time on these, but this just wasn't the week. I'm happy just to have done my 5. Next week will be another chapter. |
Well, today was the coldest I've ever ridden. Started out at 22°F(-5.5°C) with the wind chill at 14°(-10°C) and ended the ride at 28°F. Rode my 23 miles. Hands still got cold with the new supzero gloves, but they would've been far worse wearing the other gloves. Toes got a bit frosty even wearing a pair of wicking socks and wool hiking socks in non-meshed sneakers( I might try 2 layers of hiking socks next time). But still, I got my 23 miles in.

Y'know what? No, I didn't ride today.
Had my kit all laid out, alarm set, bike prepped & ready...got up this morning, saw that I had an inbox just chock full of important email, wondered how much longer I could continue to put that off...and then I checked the weather report It was 14°F, with a windchill/"RealFeel" of 1°F One!!!! Now I think I know what that "F" stands for. Decided it was more important to take care of business. I'll ride tomorrow, when it's supposed to be a positively balmy 21°F. |
57F, time for shorts and yes - squeezed an hour in!!
|
17.5 this am. Cool (41) and windy (15 out of north). Rode out around the lake and some great scenery. Last third was into the wind nada great challenge.
|
A short, small utility ride, a mile each way to pay a couple bills; 29F, SW wind about 10. Dropped down a gear, spun easily, and enjoyed the brisk air.
|
Nice riding weather today. It's around 65º out, sunny and not much wind. Did 15 miles at an almost normal pace. Back is doing good so I should start riding my normal rides soon.

It was a great day except for the way home against the wind. It was only about 10 to 15 MPH but it was a little up hill too. My average speed was a little lower but at least I was ridding. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/1...6<br />
