You might want to check your cleat position or saddle height. Too high a saddle or cleats too forward might contribute to achilles issues.
What I’m thinking is it's my pedal stoke, especially on hills (which I’m climbing more of, since there are a couple of long ones on my commute) and I’ve noticed that I push my heel down pretty far. I’ve got to concentrate on pedaling in circles and not mashing. Mashing=ouch. |
I did a metric century this morning!
Fun club ride with heat, humidity and hills. What more could a guy ask for? (Note to self: Do not post on the internet that you walked up one hill.) I replaced my chain and cassette yesterday and am happy to report that I had no trouble shifting into the lowest gear multiple times today. |
No. I did walk though. Yesterday I cleaned my new pets cage out. Didnt know that would take an hour and 20 minutes. Im still sore. My leg wouldnt get over the bar. Gave up and went walking instead. I considering cage washing an exercise now!!!

I got to the bike path this AM with the wife and broke away from her when we hit the loop. I was looking for my riding buddy, but he didn't show up again today. I was almost to my parking lot to get a PBJ from the truck and start on my last lap when the sky opened up and started the rain was coming down really hard. My wife was waiting at the ranger station for me to get done so I decided to go home after the rain quit. At least I got 40 miles out of this morning's ride while the wife did her 28. I didn't get my 52 but it was a good ride, nonetheless.

Did some riding around town with the SO, she got tired and wanted to go home, decided to add another ride around "the block", the block in question is about 12km on it's own, it's hot and moist out, and I was on the MTB, it's got gears low enough that she can keep up:giver:, but it's a heavy beast, why the AL bike is 7 pound odd heavier then the Cromoly steel one, is beyond me. Had debated about switching bikes when she quit, but didn't want to go back to the garage.... Debating, if I have the funds next year about picking up a cross frame and building a new bike out of the parts I have, going to need to replace a few, but...

Lovely bride & I did 30 miles this morning. Began the ride on the Cardinal Greenway in Gas City, IN. Heavy fog made for a cooler ride as all of the overhanging foliage was dripping like a water mister. Yesterday's ride plus today's gave us a total of 59 miles for the weekend.
|
It was 66 miles for me today, a ride that has it all, farms and vineyards, rivers, forests, climbs, more climbs and fast descents. All of this and cool temps, dry air and no traffic. I never take Oregon for granted, it's pretty close to perfect.
|
We got in our longest ride on our new tandem today, 40 miles over varried terrain, with a 11.9 mph avg., that's big improvement for us so far! :D Our tandem really likes the "open road", LOL, it hates stop and go! ;)

Got in a 32 mile ride this morning. Was 82 degrees when I started at 8:00am. Was almost 90 when I finished 2 hours later. And don't get me started on the humidity. :D

I was going to take the day completely off from bocycling - started with my stretches, planks and bridges - then a 2.5 mile walk - then choir and church - then swimming. However, I made a grocery run - 3.5 miles round trip - this evening.

45 miles including 34 on a club ride on a slightly hilly course north of Minneapolis. My legs were TIRED from the 80 mile hill-climbing ride in Wisconsin yesterday. I expected the ride today to be a recovery ride, but a couple of my faster riding partners showed up and so the ride was somewhat more energetic than expected. I let them do pretty much all the pulling, though.
I've made lots of progress in my riding since I started in the last 2 years. Tons. But some things still elude me. If I ride hard on a given day, I am just not that strong the next day. I have great respect for those of you who do really long distances and in particular, those who do long distances on successive days. I wonder what it takes to build that stamina? |
MyLilPony and I rode over Teton Pass in Wyoming on Saturday. I can report there is no oxygen at 8,400 feet.
We're back from our ride in Ashland, Oregon, the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon and Washington; rides in Port Orchard WA, Victoria and Vancouver BC, Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes and Route of the Hiawatha in Idaho, and a ride through Yellowstone that hit Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. We've got laundry a lot to do, and a zillion photos to edit. |

It's just in the more northern latitudes where they have none. |

Sunday morning ride
I did not ride on Saturday for teh first time in a couple of months. Sunday I did 20.5 miles. It took me 2 hours.
689 for the season. |
I went out this morning for a short ride around the single track trails in a park nearby. I only did about 5 km. total, but the temperature is already too hot here in central Texas. I'm looking forward to September and October, when the temps will be more reasonable.
I'm enjoying the difference between my discount store mountain bike with 26" wheels and my new Specialized 29er. I can get up hills I couldn't make it up before, and it stays in adjustment better. |

I was out doing some final-week taper-down riding before my 200k this weekend. Did an easy 30 miles with three hills for good measure. A few of the beaches along Lake Michigan have some steep access roads that give you a 15 to 20% for a short length. I'll be doing about 10,000 ft of climbing on Saturday.
|
33 very fun miles, met and talked with three other guys over 70 (77, 75 and 70) and had a jolly good time in PERFECT weather. Oh, rejoined Club Tombay - described elsewhere.
|
53 miles in the big ring, sunny, a little wind, not bad, 72 to 88 degrees. Just a good all around hammering day.
|
Hilly, with a heavy bike only 20 miiles. 90F super high humididty. Almost fog. yuck

I've taken most of the last week off from the bike to recover my mojo. I've ridden several hundred fewer miles this year compared to last but upped the intensity by riding a bit faster, longer and riding every hill in my generally flat area. There has been a very noticeable difference in performance with an accompanying toll on the body requiring more rest days. Today was back on the bike for 30 miles in high heat and humidity and the mojo is back. Now I'm looking forward to a fairly long ride later this week but beginning very early in the am.
