5 mile ride this evening.

Bikey Mikey 01-11-12 11:58 AM

23 miles today. Started early, about 20 minutes before sunrise trying to beat the rain coming later in the morning.

RSBG 01-11-12 04:34 PM

Temps in the teens and 5" of snow today. I rode for 40 minutes in the basement on my stationary bike.

Gravity Aided 01-11-12 05:23 PM

10 miles, still 50's and sunny,
but can see a low fog to my north,
and the winds are shifting that way as well .
Time to change the airmass

Bikey Mikey 01-12-12 02:48 PM

23 miles today. This will be the last ride for a few weeks. Going under the knife(see surgery post) and won't likely get to ride for 3 weeks if I'm lucky, probably 4 weeks.

John_V 01-12-12 04:09 PM

No riding yesterday due to on-and-off-again rain that lasted almost the entire day. Really sucked. I did get a 30 mile ride in today which is my normal daily distance and the longest since my back injury. The first half was real nice, but the second half had a brutal headwind which really slowed things down. I don't know what made the return trip slower; the headwind or the multiple slowdowns to clear an over active nasal sinus.

Bikey Mikey,

I hope everything goes well with your surgery and that you are back in the saddle soon. Please keep us posted.

10 Wheels; loved the pictures. I need someone to teach me how to get the photos large like yours. When I do photos they are all small. Sorry about the crash. I did a similar thing when I got my Conti 4000S tire caught in a crack in the road. I ruined the tire sidewall but managed to stay upright. I cant imagine what the guy behind me thought with my gyrations on the bike trying to stay up.
Any way I did 55+ miles today with a 10 MPH head wing all the way home which is a little up hill anyway.

good day in the warmth

We've been hammered with cold at home in Alaska. As much as my wife and I tried we've gotten in few, very few, miles on our studded tires or Pugsley's. At -40F we just don't bother and -40F has been common, so we've ridden little since October. We were quite concerned about our biking vacation in Tucson. We did about 30mi our first day to shake things out with a ride up Gates Pass. Our second day we did 63 miles on a circle tour and then my wife was hit with a bad cold which she still has so we followed that day with a 20mi ride and some site seeing. She toughed it out today for a 53 mile ride. After we finished that I had her take me (in the car) to the top of Gates Pass so I could fly down the steep backside and climb back up it. I later learned it has a short section of 22%. That was really, really hard for me. I'm admittedly overweight by an easy 30lb or more. http://connect.garmin.com/player/141170894 has a log of our slow ride. We were slow, but no apologies :). After very little riding for the last three months we're just happy we are getting any miles in. As an aside, I borrowed a Romin Gel from an LBS and I thought it was a loser at 30mi. when my butt hurt more than my standard saddle does, but at 55mi my butt hurt less than at 30mi! I think I'll be keeping it. Here is our ride two days ago. It looks like we'll be alternating short days of 30mi or so with longer days of 50-60. I plan on a century in 5 more days. Time will tell. :)

I've been in Florida for the past couple of weeks. Got out yesterday for a 50 mile ride on the Lake Okeechobee Trail. Nice day for a ride, and a pretty nice, uncrowded trail. 50 miles is my longest ride since I was 14, 42 years ago. Couple of pics.

Started out to do another 30 mile ride this afternoon after waiting for it to warm up a little. It was 55º when I started and then the winds came. I ended up doing 15 miles because the wind-chill brought it down to below 45º and that's too cold for this home-grown Florida Cracker. I would have done the 30 with no problem if it weren't for the winds.

10 Wheels,

The scenery in those photos of yours is almost like riding in most parts of Florida. Your bike lanes are much wider, though.

WHOOPEE!!

It was 26F when I rode to the pool for a swim. Then, it was not much more than that when I rode to McD's for a lowfat fruit yogurt and a small burrito. I had to walk the bike through several ice patches, as I have NO desire to fall and break something at this point.

Got out for several miles and it was FUN!!

OldCruiser 01-13-12 09:08 PM

4.5 cold miles up and down a few hills in the neighborhood on a ss mt. bike I recently put together with low hill spinning gearing. 16t. rear and iirc 33t chainring . Spins out about 10 mph. But that's plenty fast enough for me with 20-30 mph winds and sub freezing wind chills. I would lay on the brakes going downhill .

Great ride! My office moved further out just before Christmas, and, with Christmas and New Years over, this was my first full five-day week of riding. The one-week total was 125 miles -- a new personal best. Temperatures were in the mid 30s (F) and it was clear, with wind gusts to about 23 mph -- headwind outbound, tailwind inbound. The new ski gloves my wife got me are a wonder.

Great 15 mile ride with the bike club this morning with cool and sunny weather.

CbadRider 01-14-12 08:06 PM

I did a 42 mile club ride. The weather was overcast; a bit chilly at the start but perfect at the end.

23F this afternoon but no wind or precipitation and the streets and roads are almost entirely clear...........so I had to get out for a nine-mile ride. Supposed to be above freezing on Sunday!

Yep. I stuck to the trainer today, but tomorrow looks promising for a real ride.
