43 split personality mile ride. First part was awesome, 2nd half was not...
I rode my first Populaire, and the first half was pretty quick, for me. I think I pulled around 15 MPH average on a bent friendly course. The second half I just slammed against the Wall, figuratively. I was one track to finish at about 4:30, but I was so exhausted I ended up pushing the bike up anything more than a 3% grade at the end. I finished at 6:10, so I get credit for it (the time limit is 6:40), but it was a bummer to finish on such a weak note. Then again, my first official RUSA ride is in the can and I should be happy.... |
Commute to/from work - 14.57 each way.

Thunderstorms moving through Indy right now but today was another beautiful Spring - oops! it's still Winter - day. 19 miles. Third ride in a row at 16 mph. Not enough to win a race but fast by my standards, especially for March.
Had to stop to get a pic of a sign I hadn't seen before: We Pay Cash for Diabetic Test Strips! This smells funny. Wasn't previously aware of this activity but I found multiple similar web sites. Not entirely sure how legal or not this is. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_0168.jpg |
Yes I did ride today, after cleaning, lubing and airing up the old Schwinn I loaded it on the back of the Jeep and hit a local park. First real time out this spring so I tool it kinda easy, probably about three miles. Once I got home I did the same mini tune up on the Gary Fisher. With a little luck it won't rain all day tomorrow and I can take that one for it's shakedown cruise.

First century ride of the year, 110 miles door to door from home, across the Potomac to MD, out to Point of Rocks, and back on the good old W&OD bike path:

14 miles after changing the tires on the Ross to 700x32s, went to the LBS and got presta adapters . Lots of revelry at the "local" , it looked like . LBS was also frightfully busy .

Only 11.5 miles today...because my shifting cable broke. Had to ride the final 2 miles in the hardest gear.
|
My friend bailed out of today's ride, which was just fine because yesterday's commute sapped my energy a bit, so I headed over to the local rail trail for an easy flat spin. I only did maybe 10 miles, but I enjoyed it because of all the people out having fun on bikes. There were old couples, young couples, groups of friends, families, one guy on a low rider chopper sort of bike, a cute little girl with a pink pink who stopped every 3 feet to ding her bike bell, a very rotund man on a bike way too small from him, little kids weaving all over the path. It all made me smile.

We did 35.56mi on the tandem today. The car's thermometer sais 78F when we finished. Hey, this is mid-March in New England. What happened? The ride was great. Lots of bikes. At one stop we had a nice conversation with another couple riding a tandem.

My morning rides were rained out but I got out this afternoon for a short climb and some sprint work. I'm still dealing with a sore left knee which I could feel on the sprint starts. Also worn cleats do not inspire confidence. lol I can't get over riding at elevation in March in my summer kit. It's like we jumped into June.

Yesterday: 43 miles with of course a lots of hills--no choice around the San Francisco Bay Area--cold and cloudy--winter decided to come late this year as we have had rain for almost a week--first time this year!
|
42 miles today on the first club ride of the season. Warm and sunny - rained enough last night to fill up our rain barrel but nothing today where the ride was or at our home.

I followed up the 110 mile ride from Saturday with a 100 mile ride from Marshall VA up to Harpers Ferry WV and back through Brunswick. It never got as warm as they predicted yesterday, and it was foggy and misty until after 10:00am, so I was pretty cold in my short-sleeved jersey for most of the ride. Today I rest. I haven't done back-to-back century rides since last June, so I'm really feeling it today:

Rode Friday and Saturday, the weather is just beautiful. Mostly sunny and highs in the low 80's. Great rides.

35 miles with my daughter Saturday with a lunch stop at a nice local garden/arboretum to meet up with my wife and 10 year old son. My daughter ran a 5k early Saturday morning...endless energy! Two 8* climbs were tough on me...I might need a gear change.
Any ride with my teenage daughter is a great day:) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...68294994_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...00228624_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...64459500_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...41092043_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...34023839_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...48431794_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...83219765_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...07317740_n.jpg Any spot which restricts parking is always a photo-op for my daughter:thumb: |
I enjoyed another twilight ride tonight. 21 miles, starting at 7:30 PM and lasting until 8:40PM. I ride with plenty of lighting when out after work.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...cket/008-1.jpg Most of my travel was on a MUP, so I just needed a little bit of headlamp to warn the dog-walkers of my arrival. I did use multiple sets of lights during the second half of the ride, after the sun had set. Its great having two sets of lights on high power when descending at 35 mph. I also enjoyed the night sky and the 65F temperatures. |

Regular 30 mile daily ride. I left a little early this morning so it was nice and cool when I got out to the MUP. Made for a quicker, very enjoyable ride.

26 miles on the tandem at lunch time. Beautiful 70 deg. weather, no wind. Stopped and had a few slices of French Toast as a second lunch.
|
Commute - 29 miles total.

I set my stuff out for an early morning ride.
My alarm clock went off at 5:45 AM. I tossed the clock across the room. I don't think I have the hang of this yet. Anyway, I'm going to celebrate the fourth day of summer tomorrow by going up to Memphis for a 36 miler. |
