Yesterday: Tens miles with wife/stoker on the Screamer. Last couple of miles with some rain but that was not bad with fenders.

Today: Took the long way home for a total of 30 commuting miles.

Had a relaxing day today but managed to get in a nicely paced 15 mile ride. Then it was off to lunch with my old coworkers at Cola-Cola.

After spending half a day :bang::bang:, deep in short-sale hell.

When I did all I could I went for a ride.

Two-wheeled therapy is the best. :D

42 miles including four of the toughest hills in NE Ohio. Each hill has a section steeper than 12% and each takes more than 15 minutes to climb.

Perfect weather and an easy pace made for a great ride.

Awesome several days of riding this week with bluebird, cloudless days and warm temps. An early week ride was on roads, new to me as I scouted out the ride to a LBS (about 35 mi.). Another ride took me up the bike path, past a trout pond teeming with wildlife. There is a family of Ospreys that nests in the same tree on an island in the pond. Their babies have grown up and they seem to all be gone. Scores of geese in and around this pond - under foot and almost under your wheels. They are so accustomed to people they don't even look up as you ride by. They have babies now also. I saw one mama goose with her little flotilla of goslings trailing out behind. They sure were cute.

Today was very warm. No tights needed. Stopped at several parks along the bike path to watch some baseball. This was nostalgic for me because as a boy, Spring meant baseball and the sweetest sound was the crack of a bat and ball. On a certain Sunday, we always new which one with no prearrangement, and would meet in a hayfield when snows were all gone. I no longer live in that town but my family still does. When I go home several times each year, some of those same boys, who I've known for 65 years or so, still live there. It is of considerable pleasure to see them.

It is not too surprising that a simple bike ride would trigger memories from so long ago. At an advanced enough age, there is much more of your life behind you than there is ahead. It has been a great a great ride.

Today's ride was notable for three things:
1) the hootie-hoos were out in full force today. It was really annoying.
2) several Latino families were having a cookout at Long Run Park. I don't know what they were cooking, but it smelled great. I had to settle for two breakfast bars. Ick.
3) not to alarm anyone, but I located a zombie farm off Rehl Road. I'd like to take pictures but I don't feel it is in my best interest to stop. Everyone knows zombies can't outrun bents.

35 miles today under heavy clouds, but no rain anywhere on the radar. A bit of minor wind here and there, but nice and cool.

Plus I got to make friends with a small brown Chihuahua 'guarding' a cropduster strip where I usually pause for a break. Of course, I made friends with him last time and will probably have to do it again next time, but by the time I was ready to leave he was standing upright with front paws on my legs, tail wagging, waiting for personal attention. His little black tomcat buddy was nowhere to be see this time around.

Easy 40 miles today. Perfect weather. A little exploring too. Nice.

Are you talking about the Ospreys at Brickyard Pond?
Three or four times Bailey and I have seen one dive into the water at top speed, then come up out of the water, hover for a couple seconds, and maybe dry the wings with four or five flaps, with a HUGE fish in his claws, maybe 18 -24 inches long. I even got some photos of the osprey with a fish in his claws in the air.
Past years there have been Perrier Falcons dive bombing (actually coming in straight in front of me) on the mount hope bridge. Only in one spot, and only in the spring. My guess is there is a nest on the bridge, and when the babies leave the nest the adults don't care about bikes anymore. I got a few photos of them too.

Friday: Ten miles in the afternoon. Rediscovered a nearby road that has a 1+ mile stretch which is freshly paved, flat and lightly traveled. Very nice.
Today: Great club ride on the Screamer. 40 miles of beautiful country roads - mostly smooth pavement and a variety of flat, rolling and hilly terrain.
Afterwards asked my stoker if we were going too fast on any downhills. She thought about it and said 'no'. We'll try for a little faster next time.

23 miles this morning before my crash at the MUP. It'll be the last ride for a week or more.

Yeah, 2many. Brickyard Pond is the place. I stop there frequently this time of year. I'm friends with two geese who come arunning when I stop for a snack they are only too happy to share. They look like two clipper ships running before a strong wind with, as the old nautical saying goes, a bone in their teeth, (large bow wave).

Last year I stopped and a dad was fishing with his daughter. Just under the surface and barely visible in the murky water, by the concrete steps where they were fishing, was a large, ugly and prehistoric looking snapping turtle, probably waiting to snag a fish.

62 mile ride today on the monstercross bike on as many dirt roads as I could find (29 miles). It was overcast and comfortably in the 70s throughout the ride. The roads were fun and scenic. Even much of the paved part of the ride was on on very low traffic, narrow, shaded back roads.

48miles on an organized ride. Great temps, very good rest stops, quiet roads. We had to cut a 100K short as we had a commitment in the afternoon. Strawberry Fields Forever 100K next Sunday; strawberries dipped in chocolate I've heard.

We dusted off the tandem and took it for an easy spin. It was c_gallagh's first day off in 2 weeks, so we took it easy. Sure was nice.

108 miles with 7500 feet of climbing with very scenic views in NC mountains.

BD, great report, and nice pics. I don't know if I could find that many unpaved roads in my area. I found one gravel road, but I'm a bit reluctant to give it a go on my bent, although it has 26X1.35 tires on it.

34 miles this morning.

My son and I rode 2.5 miles round trip in the rain to the store to get eggs, cinnamon buns and the Sunday paper for Mother's Day breakfast for my wife.

Got my 15 in yesterday, hoping to get more going soon when Dr. puts me back in regular shoes

Because we celebrated Mother's Day yesterday, I was free to join the shop ride as the only woman & token mom. :) I had a good time, met some new, strong riders, and got tested on the way home. Glad I went the long way. :D

35 easy miles road

I rode 41 miles on the Schuylkill River Trail near Valley Forge National Park in southeastern Pa. I really pushed it as I wanted this to be the last big training ride in preparation for a metric century I am doing next Sunday (http://www.dvbc.org/bonkers.php ). It looks like all the riding I did indoors on the trainer this past winter has increased my level of fitness considerably. I think I am in good shape for next week's ride.

Well, yeah, we did ride today. Did the 50-mile option of the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen's Westport ride on the tandem today. It had been suggested by BF member berner, and it was a spot-on suggestion! Mostly flat or gently rolling, some long big-ring stretches (which Sharon loves), great views of farmland and beaches, and one wicked killer(!!!) hill near the end. Glad we had some deep gears. Even so, we stopped for a breather partway up.

You know it's been a good day on the bike when you get out of the car at the end and start walking and wish you had a lower gear.
