8.5 miles running errands on the bike again today:thumb:

6.3 miles, got rained out, welcome to Florida, if you don't like the weather, stick around for 10 minutes :bang:
|
15 miles, really my first ride over 10 this year. mostly I'm a newbie. woes posted in the 50+ forum.

Me and my stoker rode 8 casual miles on the Screamer this evening. Not nearly as hot/humid as it has been the last few days.
|
25 mile club group ride with four friends. It was very hot and humid, but we were all surprised that it didn't feel all that bad.

I've been doing ~15 miles for each of the last 5 days. I'm trying to keep that pace through Sat, which would put me up over 100 miles for this week. That would be a first for me in this segment of my cycling life...

Rode only about 30 miles. Group ride, then dinner at the Pizza place, then ride home in the dark. In the pouring rain. Of course I forgot my rain jacket. A big trash bag with holes for your head and arms makes a great raincoat. Used to do it on motorcycles. It was quite comfortable. One gets lots of funny looks when poking holes in a big bag and then putting it on in a restaurant.

Did 15 or so miles on the local MUP. Had a problem with the cleat on one of my shoes and was sitting on a bench fiddling with it. Two other cyclists passed, didn't say hello, or ask if I needed help, nothing. They were going in the same direction I was heading. I caught up to them, and passed them. As I passed I offered them to get on my wheel and pull for them. The response was "Er, ah no thanks, I'm good". I accelerated away leaving the crushed souls in my wake.

28 mile club ride - fast but not really hammering on a pretty flat loop around White Bear Lake. It was my first ride with new pedals (Shimanon 105 SPD-SLs) and they felt unbelievably great. I knew that the old pedals (cheaper SPD-SLs) were worn, but I guess the bearings must really have been shot - I didn't expect such a noticeable improvement.

13.1 miles @ 19.6 ave this morning before work

Rode to work today: Took advantage of a lovely tailwind* and much cooler than average temps to go quite a bit harder than usual (for a morning commute), so it was more of a workout and less of a jaunt.
* of course, this means I'll have a crappy headwind all the way home tonight! But I'll wind up with 22 miles round trip. |
10.5 miles to the river and back before work this morning.
|
Second day in a row that I got rained out of doing my 15-20 mile MUP rides. It has finally cleared up and the sun came out, but I don't know for how long. Let's hope my wife and I can get at least 10 neighborhood miles in after dinner.
|
To and from work today for 19.5 miles. Wonderful weather.
|
21 mile ride with my club; 10 riders. Beautiful evening. Part of the ride was on a paved trail through the woods along an abandoned railway line.
|
15.75 mile ride with my daughter - Home to the Mendenhall Glacier for a nice view, then did a loop of the valley to another view of the glacier, then back home.

Mountain bike ride with the club. This was my first ride in several months on our really tough trail, Selma Irwin Nature Trails (aka Salmonella). Five miles of climbs, roots, climbs, rock gardens, climbs, tight trees, climbs, technical turns, climbs, kamikaze downhills, climbs, switchbacks, climbs and some more climbs. Did I mention there were some climbs? I was one whipped puppy by the time I finally finished riding, resting and pushing my bike through this brute.
I've been feeling pretty good about my road riding condition this year, but this was a rude reminder that I have not been doing enough offroad riding to hone my technical skills or to develop the short burst strength and endurance needed to do it well. The good news is that I made it with no crashes, no bruises and no blood. And I have that first ride out of the way, so I just need to keep going back and get better. |
27 miles solo on trails and roads in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Trying out a friend's pair of wheels (Velocity Aeroheads, Tiagra hubs). Very nice compared to my heavy stock Bontrager Race wheels. Can't say that it made me any faster, but the handling was pretty nice. The ride was fast though. Let's just say that having fun wheels to ride put me in a good energetic mood.
|
I did the usual 30-mile ride on the local MUP tonight. I wouldn't mention it, except I did see a fellow 50+ rider wearing the 50+ jersey crossing Sterling Blvd (horrible intersection -- they were taking surveys about how bad it was last night.)
If that was you, I was the one who "yelled" at you as we crossed. No I wasn't insane, probably :) |
15.6 miles through the neighborhood last night because the local bike path is so cracked it's too dangerous to ride it. Emailed the mayor with a notice about it asking to at least close the bad section for repairs, but since big wheels turn slowly, will have to look for alternatives, of which there are many.

30 miles in 2 hours 4 minutes. A few headwinds and a few hills. Beautiful day.
|
14.4 miles in yet another perfect day. Another new record after not cycling for 35 years lol.
