24 miles today on a Chilly November [club] Ride but not really chilly. Again hit 60F but that will change very soon.
Not chilly but quite windy - windier than yesterday. Was able to cruise along in the mid-20's for several miles when the wind was favorable.

IBOHUNT 11-26-11 01:40 PM

Started out in 31 degree weather. By the time I got home it was in the 40's.
72.5 miles

One one these days I'll be all trained up for a century deal.

Banded Krait 11-26-11 01:45 PM

Did my "standard" 24 mi ride along the Schuylkill River Trail near Valley Forge, Pa. Another beautiful late autumn day, ideal for riding--not too cool, not too warm. I put a new stem on my bike yesterday, and my verdict is that it seems to be a better fit. Time will tell.

Bikey Mikey 11-26-11 02:50 PM

23 miles today, overall avg 16.1mph--slightly better than yesterday

El Segundo 11-26-11 03:16 PM

22 miles today with about 20 mph head and side wind for 15 of those miles. Is there a factor to add miles based on effort expended peddling into the wind?

Edit: Forgot to mention, also saw one gator about 15 feet off the road.

az_cyclist 11-26-11 03:50 PM

62.5 @ 15.2 average, 42 with the club ride, and 20 extra. There were a few hills on the club ride . Great morning for a ride. 48 degrees at the start, and 69 when I got home.

BikeWNC 11-26-11 04:29 PM

Another short ride today but with a few good efforts. Today's ride makes three days in a row, YAY me! lol Much cooler up on the mountain today with a gusty wind at times. Snow is expected up there early in the week.

2manybikes 11-26-11 06:07 PM

Unbelievable for the end of November in R.I. Temp over 60F. Only about 25 miles, but the dog in the trike makes that equal to 50 miles on a good road bike.

Weather considerably worse today, but still quite bikeable despite the rain and slightly cooler temps. Highs in the low 40s to-morrow. The Crows seem to be getting ready.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=228474

Now that the 7-8 foot cornstalks are down, the countryside views really open up.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=228473

This past week was a crappy week for riding. I got in 15 miles on Thursday morning, 5 miles on Friday with the wife in a neighborhood ride and 15 miles yesterday with the wife at our local MUP. I won't be riding for a few more days do a collision I had with the wife yesterday during the last 1/2 mile of the ride. She made a U-Turn in front of me to go back to the parking lot and didn't realize that I was that close to her. I couldn't stop in time, ran into the back wheel of her trike and down I went. No scrapes or bruises but I landed flat on my back. I was able to get up (with the help of a park ranger) and walk back to the truck. I can't tell if there is any damage to the bike as I couldn't bend or squat down to inspect it. I've been on Motrin and the heating pad since yesterday afternoon, and actually had a good nights sleep. Still very sore but at least I am able to bend over a little this morning. I love riding, falling .... not so much.

Oops!

Tailgaiting again  A common husband/wife phenomenon, something I have to be careful of riding with my wife. Actually the last time she crashed, she was tailgating ME!!

I sure hope there is no permanent damage. Get well soon.

John_V 11-27-11 08:32 AM

Thanks Dnvr. Yep, tailgating again! It doesn't look like there is any permanent damage. If nothing changes from today, I will go to the doctors on Tuesday and have it checked out further. The road where the collision occurred was the service road and park entrance where there is automobile traffic going in and out of the park. On that road, I normally ride behind her because I am much easier for the drivers to see than she is on her tadpole trike. Normally, we make the U-Turn a little further up the road and that is what I was expecting her to do. Unfortunately, she turned before the normal spot because they are adding some turn lanes to the park entrance and she wanted to avoid the cones they had set up.

Bikey Mikey 11-27-11 09:38 AM

Did my 23 this morning.

Managed to head out for a quick 35 before dawn... then made a wrong turn after reaching the bottom of the Surrey Hills here and, believe it or not, managed to descend the Hills a second time! Another seven miles and half an hour or so later I repeat the ascent and a gentle ride home turns into a slight time trial in order to make breakfast and not hold up the days plans!

It was a blast! All the more so with the 20mph winds that helped "blow me home" when they weren't cross winds... I ached slightly and continue to be amazed at how it works out my upper body as well as lower now I have a decent touring bike that "fits"!

42 miles and two and a half hours in total with quite a few stops so overall I feel pretty good about that as a decent end to the first week breaking in my new bike.

DnvrFox 11-27-11 06:52 PM

Wife ailing with sharp, intense neck pain. Needs support. However, I got out of the house for a couple of hours ride on the mtn bike. Temp near 70, just gorgeous here in cold Denver, CO.

Smogsteve 11-27-11 07:05 PM

Went out with the bike club for the first time since heart valve replacement in September. We went on a new route on roads most of us never knew existed. 33 miles of flat to rolling hills. What a wonderful day. It is good to ride with a group again. What can I say So Cal in early winter is great. 80 degrees, 20 mph wind, air as clear as it gets. We could see cars driving down from Arrowhead 15 miles away.

jimmuller 11-27-11 07:29 PM

We spent the weekend traveling, rode the train home yesterday, a bit over 10 hrs. So today we took the tandem out. 26 miles, introducing to my sweetie the roads I like to do on my solo bike. Some uphill, some down. Sharon likes the uphill. The thermometer was missing about 10 of the predicted degrees but it was a good day anyway. Sharon kept asking if we could go further, find another big loop or something. So we just kept going...

otg 11-27-11 07:41 PM

I got out for a quick 15 mile ride this afternoon. Weather here in Connecticut has been real nice the past few days.

DnvrFox 11-28-11 02:52 PM

JimF22003 11-29-11 04:58 AM

Got out of jury duty in time for a nice warm ride in the afternoon, on the usual 32 mile loop. Nice to be able to ride in the middle of the week without running lights...
