RonH,
The temperatures in NW Florida have been really nice this past week. We had around 67 F here this afternoon when we rode. It was 36F at 0600 when the wife and I got up. Sleeping in was easy with the nite temps. No strong head winds today so a smooth ride out and back for us. Next to no vehicular traffic today so just nice riding time. It sure feels great to be back:thumb:. Bill:D |
Finished the week today with a 100 miler. Ending the week with 316 mi.

Did a 5 hr ride today that included a loop around the city and couple miles of the Monon trail. I rarely ride on MUPs, but there has been so much discussion here on BF regarding them that I thought I would check it out again. It's a very cool and beautiful trail but I would rather ride on city streets where the chaos is more predictable. It's funny how the least skilled riders seem to be riding the fastest through crowds so I actually moved back onto the street within a couple of miles to avoid having to push someone off the trail. I think I will just stay on city streets from now on.....
Also just got back from an hour ride on the Fixie with Apache to the Eagle Creek Cafe for a coffee. Man the weather has been beautiful here today..... |
31 mostly-flat miles on a club ride through farmland this morning (Saturday). Frost on the pumpkin first thing this morning but turned out to be a great sunny day with temp up into the 60's.

Rode a local organized Century today (103 miles). First Century on a single in 25 years or so. The last 500' of the 4500' of climbing did me in, but I finished!. The really unusual high temps for this time of year (>90F) didn't help much.

For the usual reasons life serves up, other than a short ride 2 days ago with my husband, I had not ridden in 3 weeks, but this morning I went out for a ride. I didn't look at the computer, or pay attention to the miles, I just went where ever I felt like. It about 51* and kind of overcast, but it was very nice ride.
This is the most swans I ever seen in one place. This is the Nashua River in Pepperell MA> http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=224169 |
Did 20 miles today with much better time....needed the day rest(yesterday). 20 miles in 1 hour 12 minutes with some wind.
|
30km in 1:29:59 on the mountain bike, was 15℃ out for the ride, not bad considering it was 1℃ when I got up this morning, 19km/h wind out of the south made the south bound part of the loop a little tough, but manageable.....

Just got back from 20 miles in just under two hours. Not real good, but I'll take it at my age and weight! (55 - 210)

Rode the Horsefarm Hundred sponsored by Gainesville Cycling Club today - well, actually rode the horse farm Tours portion - 25 miles. A couple of big (for me) hills, lots of gorgeous horse farms, a few loose dogs and great weather. Don't think I'll ever do 100, but definitly will do the 55 mile ride next year.

Twenty solo miles this afternoon. Combination of a breeze, smooth pavement and rolling to slight downhills let me maintain 24-25mph for a lot longer than I am used to.
Found a dead skunk. In the middle of the road. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_3561.jpg Stinkin' to high heaven. |
70 and sunny in October in unusual here. Couldn't pass it up. 20 mi loop.
|
The wife and I rode, 24 miles on Sat. and 26 miles today so she could get some miles on her new KHS Vitamin B, Road Hybrid. Awesome late fall days, temps almost 70 degrees F, with bit of a "blustry" type fall wind blowing leaves off the trees but not a real problem for riding! Suppose to be a COLD front and SNOW on Weds. so we got out at least some this weekend, to ride in "shorts and short sleeves", that will END sadly, very soon.

40+ miles on the shop ride today. Started out about 55* and sunny, 5-ish mph north wind, and by the time we got home it was 20* warmer. Tailwind coming home made it all the sweeter.
|
Early am resistance exercises in basement gym (set a PR in body dips - 30x3), then 45 minute swim, then 1.5 hour ride. Wife has a relapse of the terrible shingles, and she needs me around, so I am doing much of my exercise before she gets up, or when she is resting. Just sneaking it in, so-to-speak!!

47 miles with a friend today. Lots of climbing, lots of laughing, much smiling! It was glorious weather, too, could not have been better.

6 AM 40F 2 hour ride
My two (they look like one in the picture) 53 LED $10 Lights and early morning scenery |
37.3 @ 17.2 average yesterday. Perfect morning for a ride, and the best I have had in 2 weeks (I am finally almost over the cold/crud I had)

Did a ride on Saturday in the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/123558822 This will probably be my longest/hardest ride for this year. It was darkish and cold at the start, and getting dark at the end. I ended up with 116 miles, 9600 feet of climbing. I started at MP 0 of the parkway, rode down into Waynesboro and over to Rt 252 following the start of the Tour de Valley route. Then I rode on down to Lexington. This part was just beautiful. Largely downhill, and a combination of valley farms and wooded stream valleys. Not bad traffic, and the temperature was perfect. Going through Lexington was a little hairy. I went right past VMI on Rt 11, and they were getting ready for a football game. After that it was a nice climb up from Buena Vista at about 850 feet to 3300 or so feet on the parkway. Traffic was not as bad as I feared. There were lots of leaf peepers out, but I've seen it as bad on Skyline Drive in the summertime. The last 25 miles were more of a slog than pleasure. I would have gladly pared off a bit of distance. I was just barely moving going up some of those last hills. |
It warmed up today so all I needed was a base layer undershirt. No need for warmers, etc. :)
Did my usual 33 miles on the "NEW" Litespeed. |
I also dressed without layers today, just cycling shorts and a long sleeve jersey. 33 miles in 60f weather, sunny with wind. Most of the ride was an easy, relaxed cruise on the steel CX bike.
|
Did a No Breakfast Test Ride.
Ate at 9 mi and at 27 mi. 43 miles and my energy level was -0-. Don't try that. Got in 47 miles. |
