Managed to get in a quick ride between the pesky rain showers this afternoon, even the stiff Southeast wind died for a while. Bringing in this New Year the way it should be done, on my bicycle, riding and feeling well.

After having breakfast and a very nice visit with a childhood friend, I managed to get in a decent 15 mile, afternoon ride. Excellent 74º temp with sunny and clear skies, humidity of 56%, 3-5 mph winds and a MUP filled with every family in Tampa (or so it seemed). Not very many places to get a real workout but I did manage to get up to normal speed a few times. MUP should be empty tomorrow so I should get in a normal ride.

John,
How is your knee doing? Sounds like you are getting back in to your regular schedule. Hope all is well.

Bill,

It's coming along nicely. I haven't had any pain since I went to the fitter and he readjusted the saddle that had apparently gotten out of wack from my last fall. I still ride with an elastic brace on the knee as a precaution but I'm thinking of taking it off soon and seeing how the knee holds up without it.

Got in 28 today and after looking at the numbers for last year it looks like a mountain to get going again in 2013.

I got a 30 mile ride in today. Except for some slightly stronger winds, the weather today was just as fantastic as it was yesterday.

Took New Year's Day off partly because I had a fall New Year's Eve. Got back on today to check the bike out & see how my hip felt. Wound up with only five miles because the roads are still a sheet of ice. Back and forth on a quarter mile of dry pavement in front of my house....boring! But it still felt better than sitting and looking out the window!

Wife and I got in 30 miles on the Withiacoochee State Trail with a stop at Ferris Groves in Floral City for a fresh strawberry shake. You have to love the weather in central Fl.

Slipped in a ride as the temps started to fall this afternoon, radar shows more rain and the front passing tonight, sure is a slow one. Ride was kind of cold but comfortable in my new wind shell jacket this beautiful black haired, dark complected, Hispanic woman gave me for Christmas. She was hot!!!!

Only 7.3 miles but his is only my fourth ride.
Got a late start after a morning of shopping with my darling bride, and then some plumbing repairs. It was getting dusk/dark one the way home. Good thing that one of our shopping stops was the LBS where I bought a tail-light.

Opened up a can of HTFU and ventured out into the 50 degree temps and afternoon sun. My company has been closed over this last week and a half and this is the only decent ride I was able to get in due to all the rain we had Still, a great way to end a vacation.

https://app.strava.com/activities/35468575#

We've got a several day stretch of good weather coming up so I should be able to get 4-5 decent rides in.

-8F this morning, light wind. I commuted to work in about 1hour 20min. Took me a little longer had to change my route into the city because my short off road section short cut has 2 ft of snow on it now. Traffic was low in town and a nice ride but my fingers were a little cold toward the end. Coldest ride yet since 2010. It looks like 2013 will bring back the usual colder winter temps we haven't had in over a year.

Repeated for contrast. You, rdtompki, and I have no idea what HTFU means.

Finally got in a ride for 2013. Did 36 miles this morning. I wanted to do 45 or so but timing wasn't going to work out. Still, I'm pleased I got any ride in.

Yeah, that is quite a contrast isn't it. Getting ready to go out and brave the elements again this evening, I'd better get a coffee first.

And you can add me to the list that has no idea what HTFU means but I think I can figure it out if someone will tell me what the H stands for.

Temp: 45f
Miles: 8.1

Now, I hate to sound like a wimp but I think I have found my "work-out" distance. Right at one hour of riding (OK, I'm not just a wimp but I'm slow.....and old too). I think my goal will be to do between 8 and 10 miles as often as possible with a three day a week minimum. But goals are moving targets and as I ride more this may inch up....hopefully.

Not a good looking day today with all the dark clouds in the sky and a high chance of rain. Since it was noon and it hadn't rained, I took a chance and went to the MUP and managed to get in 15 miles before it started to drizzle. Decided to pack up and go home. Will try again tomorrow.

HTFU comes in a bottle or a can, preferably a bottle, and is best applied at ride's end. It provides the necessary calories for the next day's ride.

Another cold morning +1F, calm and cloudy. More traffic in the city this morning for some reason and hard to turn into the left hand lanes to turn left. Already anxious for spring.
